  1. I agree (in the case of locks on containers that are flagged for stealing, of course). On an unrelated but similar note, when you use a key to open a lock you should be awarded the same amount of experience that you would have earned for picking that lock. (This would eliminate the current situation, in which you are punished for not picking the lock before you find they key to it.)
  2. I followed your steps, and in my case the problem was fixed when I got to step 9. Thanks for the tip.
  3. The rest system is too fundamental to the design of this game to change at this point in the development process (ie, after development is ended and the game has been released). Changing rest would require a redesign/rebalance of almost every aspect of the game. It's unrealistic to expect such a massive change to be made. No amount of new threads about the rest mechanic will change that situation. For the sake of cutting down on unnecessary forum clutter, it might be better to just add comments or suggestions to the threads that already exist about this topic.
  4. I haven't played a Bleak Walker, so I'm not sure. In theory, you should be able to select it. Are you being given the option to pick other Paladin-specific abilities, or are you being offered a list of talents?
  5. In order to get the numbers you are looking for it is necessary to record combat (using a 3rd-party program) and then manually count the frames between attacks. This process would have to be repeated for each weapon configuration you wanted to compare. I haven't done it myself, but I imagine it's a fair bit of work. If you poke around the forum you may be able to find some people who have done this, and you may be able to read about their comparisons and make a decision based on that information. Or, you may not find information that specifically applies to your situation, in which case that effort would be wasted. For example: Dexterity and the armor you are wearing affect your dps, so even if you find a comparison of the weapon configurations you are interested in, that comparison may be taking place at a different Dexterity than you have or while wearing different armor. Another complicating factor is that dps will be affected by the enemy's damage reduction, which is different for different enemies. So, unless you're going to test (or calculate) your dps for every possible damage reduction value and then switch weapon sets to the optimum one for each specific foe, the effort you put into precise dps calculations won't necessarily give you the information you need to make the "right" choice of weapon configurations. The alternative is the less rigorous method of trying out different things and picking the one(s) that seems best. It may not get you hard numbers, but it will (probably) take less time and effort. I imagine it is a question of whether you feel compelled to be "the best", or can cope with merely being "good enough".
  6. I haven't really had any luck getting Suppress Affliction to suppress anything. It seems like it is either completely broken or else doesn't suppress anything that I would bother trying to suppress. I haven't tested it exhaustively, but I have given up on using it because it's just a waste of an action.
  7. Interrupting Blows is currently non-functional. The problem has been acknowledged ( Taking Interrupting Blows breaks interruption ), but there has been no word that I know of about when it will be fixed. I haven't seen any official acknowledgement of the problems with the elemental damage talents, or of the apparent miscalculation of damage done with Lightning Strikes.
  8. What OS are you using? What version of the game do you have installed? Did you install anything new (drivers, programs, or whatever) between when stealth was working correctly and when it started being pink?
  9. beta v1.0.4.0534 -steam The button should read "Recall" instead of "Assign", since a companion is already assigned to the adventure. This was seen immediately after loading the save immediately after launching the game, shortly after booting the computer. Clicking the "Assign" button did in fact recall Hiravias from the adventure. I exited to the menu and reloaded the save, and the button then displayed correctly as "Recall". Last night I had a kidnapping (of Lord Sidroc). When I assigned Grieving Mother to rescue him, the action window did not display the text "Grieving Mother is assigned". The action button (which I think also said "Assign" instead of "Recall") was higher up, where one would expect to see that text (ie up where it says "Hiravias is assigned" in the image above). Unfortunately I neglected to get a screenshot of that problem. Also, at a certain point the upgrades list stopped reflecting new upgrade orders correctly. I would click on "Purchase" to begin a new upgrade, but that button would not disappear to be replaced by a countdown to completion of the construction project. Clicking on the same "Purchase" button again would result in the message "_____ is already in progress.", where the blank was the name of the project (as expected, since the project had started). Leaving and returning to the screen resulted in the countdown to completion being displayed correctly. Saved Game Output Log System Information I'm not sure how much use those files will be, since reproducing the problems is unreliable (I can't really trigger a kidnapping on demand).
  10. Posting bugs in the regular support section is sufficient to get them on the bug trackers. The devs still check that section and test/fix bugs reported there. This special section is just for bugs with the next patch they are working to on, so that any new bugs that it might introduce can be caught and fixed before it is released.
  11. Just last night I did the quest with a Kind Wayfarer PC, and the body count was (slightly) lower. Grieving Mother helped the girl, and I allowed the Lord to bribe me for silence. Ideally I would have wanted to then go to the girl and give her the bribe money to help her start her new life, but that did not seem to be an option. If I could have, I also would have stopped by New Heomar to have a chat with the Lord's sister...
  12. Aw, and you tried so hard not to be scandalous. Oops, sorry, I mean tried so diligently.
  13. I seem to recall one of the memorials being in an foreign script...Korean, I'm guessing, but I'm no expert on Southeast Asian languages. That one at least probably took more effort to get into the game than a simple copy-paste. God help us all if anyone ever figures out what that one says...
  14. For reference, here's a screenshot that shows the visual effect that occurs each time the boots pulse. The combat log shows the initial crit that triggered the boots, as well as two subsequent pulses. Minor spoilers in the screenshot (maybe?).
  15. I was very unimpressed with SS, but I only tried druid briefly twice (my first two attempts to play were Average Trial of Iron with druids, and wandering into the wrong areas ended them very early on). I'm sure I'll try druid again later, but I won't be expecting SS to be an important part of my character.
  16. Search mode is a choice posed to the player: A) You can use it all the time, at a cost of slowing down your progress (with double-speed on or with double-speed off, searching is always slower than not searching). B) You can use it only when you think you are likely to find something, at cost of missing some hidden things and triggering some traps (with your skill at guessing the presence of hidden things determining how much or little you miss). C) You can never use it, at the cost of missing everything hidden and finding all the traps with your face (there are also some quests that would be harder or impossible, I think). This choice hails from the days of pencil-and-paper RPGs, and has been included in a lot of computer RPGs because it is an interesting dilemma that different players will answer differently based on their personality traits. I don't think that this is a case where forcing everyone to play the same way (method B) would improve the game or players' enjoyment of it.
  17. I hate soulless children. I think we should round them all up and use them to manufacture shoes for the rest of the world without proper compensation for their labor. Discuss.
  18. There is one instance in-game that I know of which supports the idea that godlikes, or at least some godlikes, are in fact touched by or the product of the action of a specific god. Even that one is subject to interpretation, however. Edit: Oh, I missed that RedSocialKnight already said essentially the same thing.
  19. PoE's spells all scale up at you level up, since increasing your level increases your accuracy, which affects your spells. It is a big improvement over D&D (especially older editions) where spells didn't scale up with your character consistently, or even at all in some cases. Sure, you might not have any easy way like more missiles to see your spells scaling with your level, but to be fair most D&D spells don't provide that sort of feedback either.
  20. This is the first I've heard of this problem. I suspect that the devs will need more information in order to track down the cause. Please refer to the instructions in this thread: MUST READ: How to Report an Issue
  21. I was a little disappointed by the number of godlike npcs to be found in the world (and no explanation of why there are a ton of the playable four but only the one avian to be found), and by the almost complete lack of reactivity of the game to a pc godlike's race (and race in general). It's not a serious issue, and it doesn't ruin the game for me, but I did come away from the pre-release hype with a different impression of how race was going to factor into the game than the game actually delivers. As for a godlike of Eothas, my theory is that we know exactly what one would look like, and no one is eager for there to be another. A godlike of Skaen would probably look completely normal, on the outside. Hard to embody secret hatred when you wear a symbol of it permanently bonded to your head.
  22. To be fair, the change was discussed right at the top of the announcement for the patch notes, and was given more attention that any other change made in that patch. Update 93: Patch 1.03 - Important Community Fixes
  23. Same problem for me. Note that once in the game, the selected voice works correctly. The problem appears to affect only voice preview during character creation.
