  1. This kind of thinking is what leads to people concluding that there is only one way to build any class, and then complaining that the system is too restrictive. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, so to speak. Sometimes your Wizard is going to get hit. If you build your Wizard around the idea that "he shouldn't be getting hit, so I don't need any protection for him" then of course he's going to drop almost instantly. There's nothing wrong with putting your Wizard into heavier armor. He's not going to turn into a tank, but he will be taking less damage, and thus maybe survive long enough to do something about the damage that is being done to him. Yes, the slower recovery will reduce the rate that you put out damage, but he will still be putting out damage faster than if he was unconscious.
  2. Do note that this no longer applies. I realize this was written on the 2nd of April, so I'm not criticizing, but Slicken has been nerfed into the ground and thematically and conceptually changed. It no longer "wears off", it's like a no-damage small, instant fireball AoE effect that knocks opponents prone once, not a persistent "Hazard AoE" oil slick. The important part is that high Dex translates to getting spells out faster. His illustration was broken by the change to Slicken, but his point is still valid.
  3. Yes, especially since patch 1.03 was supposed to fix this, and did not.
  4. I tested this out and had the same problem with both the doors mentioned with v1.0.3.0526 In the case of the Brighthollow door, I was able to locate a specific place where you can stand to be able to open the door: Notice the character near the spine of the door. You can't see the cursor in this screenshot, but it has changed to the open/close icon, and clicking on the door from this position will open it. I was not able to find a position that would allow me to open Lady Webb's door, however. In any case, opening doors should be a trivial matter not dependent upon where you stand (ie if you are too far away then your character should automatically walk over and open the door when you click on it). Hopefully the devs will see this and fix it.
  5. I strongly recommend that you take Vulnerable Attack. The effect is -20% recovery speed and 5 DR reduction (so you attack a little slower but your enemy's damage reduction is treated as if it is 5 points lower). It is modal so you can turn it off against low DR enemies.
  6. Wizards can only put one copy of each spell into their grimoire. This does not affect how many times they can cast that spell, however. PoE Wizards are not D&D Wizards; they have a little more flexibility. You can cast any spell in your grimoire as many times as you like, up to the limit of how many times you can cast a spell of that level. So, for example, if you have 3 level 1 spells in your grimoire and you can cast 4 1st level spells per rest, then you can cast 1 of those 3 spells 4 times if you want, or 2 of them 2 times, or 2 of them once and the other one twice. Edit: Also, you can have more than one grimoire, and switch between them as you need to, if there are more spells you want access to than will fit in one spell book. There is a delay when switching, so if possible try to avoid having to switch grimoires in combat.
  7. Sounds like a bug. Does your Moon Godlike's character sheet list Silver Tide under "Abilities"? I just made a Moon Godlike adventurer to test this out and she had Silver Tide and in combat it was triggering to heal the party when she crossed the appropriate endurance thresholds. Also, what version of the game are you running?
  8. He was knocked out so frequently for me in the early part of the game that when he ended up dying I didn't even bother to reload. I'm going to try to keep him alive next time...but no promises.
  9. The reason you did 0.0 damage to that Xaurip Skirmisher is that it is already dead. Sometimes an attack will happen a split second after an enemy dies, before the game has time to fully process that death. In those cases the attack will happen, and appear in the combat log, but no damage will be done.
  10. Personally, I'm very glad that it is possible to use double speed while sneaking, also also while not sneaking. It's a nice feature that the IE games lacked. I fail to see how removing double speed, which would slow us down more, or splitting sneak mode into detection and sneak modes, which would not remove the need for or advantage of being in sneak mode, would improve the situation.
  11. Trap and secret detection without also slowing your character down will fail, because people will move past secrets and run into traps before they detect them. Even when moving slowly, those situations are possible, so when I think a secret or trap is likely to be in the area I will occasionally stop my movement for a moment to give a little more time for detection. If they made the change you're requesting it wouldn't hurt me, because I'd just stop moving more frequently, but there would be a lot of people complaining about walking into traps, I expect. Also, even if there was a detection mode that didn't require you to be sneaking, it would still be better for you to be sneaking so that you would see enemies before they see you. That gives you the opportunity to determine if and how the fight will begin, which is a big advantage. I suspect that's why they combined the two modes...even if they separated them you would be wisest to turn on both at the same time almost all the time anyway.
  12. Fighter Health should be Endurance x 5; Barbarian Health should be Endurance x 6. PS: How many Belts of Bountiful Healing have you found? Are you sure you haven't been using a mod or editing your saves?
  13. I was horrified when someone in the game asked me to kill a child. I absolutely did not expect it. I proceeded to have my party kill him, and his entire clan, as my response. Does that make me better or worse than whoever put the request to kill the child into the game? Also, by the way, the option to respond to the request by killing everyone was one of the dialog options built into the game. Does that change your answer to my question? If I'd been designing the encounter, I would have had a child there with the clan, that grabbed a weapon and attacked you. That way you'd end up killing a child either way. This game is rated for mature audiences, and it earns that rating. Children need to stop playing this game. And by children, I mean adults with twitter accounts.
  14. I'm in favor of it. I don't want to be reading about things going on in mods, including mod bugs, mixed in with topics related to the base game.
  15. You are asking for a complete redesign of the game. The current resting mechanic is fundamental to the design of the encounters and the character classes. Removing rest as a concept in favor of a no-rest system would require a complete overhaul of every ability, talent, and spell that is currently limited per-rest and a complete redesign of every encounter in the game. Certain items would need to be redesigned as well. My guess is that we are far, far beyond the point of no return on the question of whether or not PoE will have resting.
  16. Are you sure that this isn't something going on with your computer, rather than with the game? Maybe another program running that is hogging resources, or a virus? Maybe a hardware problem? I suggest this because your problem seems to be getting worse but can't be replicated with your saved game. Edit: It might be helpful if you provide your system specs, as indicated here: MUST READ: How to Report an Issue
  17. Trial of Iron is the setting that will cause your saved games to intentionally be deleted, and that only happens if your party dies. Have you tried looking in the folder where the saved games are stored? Maybe your saved game has been renamed or zipped or something. (I seem to recall someone posting that they had lost a save in a crash but found a .zip somewhere that had the saved game backed up.)
  18. I wish they would just list the DR for each type of damage instead of giving a general DR number and then breaking down the exceptions. There would be less potential for confusion.
  19. Insead of risking a ban you could read about design of gambling machines, gamification, steam cards, nudging or free-to-play shop business models. Achievements are not simple icons without any impact or meaning. Everything you just said there disgusts me. (The concepts, not that you said them. This isn't an attack on you.) I don't mind Steam as a game distribution platform, but Steam as a metagame is repulsive to me. If someone wants to buy into the Steam metagame, and enjoys it, then all the better for them. I just don't have any sympathy for people not being able to get some particular achievement, whether that desire is due to obsessiveness, compulsion, or the demands of some metagame that Steam has crafted to boost game sales. I will agree with what others have said in this thread about how creating an achievement that cannot potentially be attained by everyone eventually is a bad design decision. At the same time, it is also a valuable life lesson, in that it demonstrates that life is unfair and perfection is impossible.
  20. That's not a bug; the deflection bonus from the ring and the cloak are not intended to stack. Unfortunately this game does not do a very good job of setting expectations with regard to which bonuses will stack and which will not. You can at least check your character for effects that are not stacking by opening up your character sheet and scrolling down to Active Effects. Your bonuses will be listed there, and any bonuses that are not stacking will be greyed out and will have the tag "(suppressed)".
  21. Just a wild guess, maybe you turned on the colorblind option in the game menu and it is affecting that? I don't know that it does (and it shouldn't)...but I can't think of anything else...maybe some other graphics option? Do you have screenshots and a saved game where this is happening?
  22. I think his appearance is probably related to the prestige of your keep (edit: rather than tied to any one specific structure). I know that he can appear more than once, and the items he offers appear to be random (but he can offer the same item more than once). I haven't bought anything from him yet, because he hasn't offered anything that interested me. Also, when checking out the item that he has for sale (by mouseover or right-click), be aware that sometimes the details don't load right away. You may need to right-click the item and then close the description before the item's properties will appear on it.
  23. Have you tried saving and reloading? Make sure you exit the game completely before you reload. If that doesn't fix it you might want to upload a copy of your saved game so the devs can take a look at it.
  24. I don't know of any way to do this currently, I but hope they will remove the display of the name in a future patch. It was too annoying for me so I had to stop using a pet (it affects them all). Not a loss that impacts my ability to play the game, I know, but party member names are not displayed in that situation so I would think it would be possible to fix.
  25. I'm not yet certain that the two problems are related. The one I'm reporting is reliable, reproducible, and affects only a specific set of items. The other bug does not appear to be limited in what items it can cause to disappear, and the trigger for the disappearance has not yet been identified. I'm assuming that the problem I'm reporting is due to a malfunctioning script related to Calisca and Heodan's deaths, but I could be wrong about that (and also about the disappearances not being related).
