I'm also wondering about a movement speed bug after the very latest hotfix. ... Symptoms are different, but could be related? I was in Raedric's Keep when the hotfix update came in via Steam. After starting the updated game, toggling Fast Mode didn't have any effect anymore. Everyone moved at normal speed. In Stealth Mode, I could not turn on Fast Mode either. That made me curious. I loaded an old savegame from a different party somewhere outdoors. Fast Mode worked with that. I went back to the Raedric's Keep savegame, and upon entering another level, fast mode semed to work ... a bit ... not sure as it's not really fast as usual.

First, it is not reproducible by reloading the Autosave and trying again. It has happened a few times to me though, ... with 1.03 and also the later hotfixes. Steam version. What happens? About the first thing I do at the beginning of the game in the camp is to unequip Calisca's torch and move it to her second weapons set. I open the inventory, and when I single-click the torch, sometimes it's gone immediately and nowhere to be found. Not in the stash and not on the ground either.

Dialogue Sound issue glitch
Merina replied to Niranloh's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
It'd like to hear more about their theory as well. Why would a networking service not only delay the speech but cut off the first few words? Or is the beginning of the speech played at volume 0? There's nothing like Hamachi installed here. With Calisca and Heodan at the beginning it either happens almost always or not at all. I tried moving them differently, but that doesn't make a difference. Then when I started a new game with a Mechanics Monk, which made me curious and because I'm still undecide about my party composition, the speech of Calisca and Heodan was flawless. -
Voice Over gets cut
Merina replied to DocDoomII's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Yes, it's random ... Calisia (spelling?) and the other early companion's voice were truncated at the beginning almost always at the beginning of my new game with 1.03 patch. Always missing 2-3 words or so. -
Voice Over gets cut
Merina replied to DocDoomII's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
It's worse after the 1.03 patch. Happens almost everytime the first two companions talk. -
You could get the fighter companion that's waiting at Gilded Vale. You could visit the inn and hire someone there ... and turn him into whatever you like. You could drop the shield to get the single-weapon accuracy bonus. Sometimes it can be easier to hit than to survive. The attributes of your priest don't make him a blocker. Try to explain each of the attributes to yourself.

Accuracy bug?
Merina replied to TornadoShanks's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Developers, please either fix the manual or put this on the manual errata page. Thank you in advance. -
Dexterity => Accuracy ?
Merina replied to mosser's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Found this topic by searching outside the forums. So, everything's wrong meanwhile? Manual wrong. Errata wrong. Dexterity accuracy bonus wrong -> no such bonus. The patch didn't correct the manual either. Just checked. -
Accuracy?
Merina replied to kingcarrot's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
In the manual appendix Table 1, column "Dexterity Accuracy Bonus", what does that mean? During combat no such bonus is shown in the details. No correction in the errata: http://eternity.obsidian.net/manual/errata The Wiki http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Attack_Resolution says: Clicking on the Attributes link, the page does not mention the word "accuracy" anywhere. -
Patch notes for 1.03
Merina replied to Sleazebag's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am different. I love the notification and patch status updates. I dislike it very much that there are 12 pages of posts in reply to it already ... full of complaints and doubts and attempts at trying to influence the developers in their decision of what to fix ... although the patch has not been released yet. What do you hope to achieve with that? Shouldn't there be a separate topic for every concern instead of collecting everything in here? -
Obsidian, why isn't there any hotfix yet?
Merina replied to Jazou's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Don't fight. I had bought the game before visiting the forums. When I visited the forum while waiting for the download to complete, the forum was full of complaints about the game being too easy, colors being too dark, game being imbalanced, NPC companions being poor builds, combat system sucking, and so on ... do you want to know what I thought about that? ... Yes? I still wanted to have fun with the game, because I purchased it! Anyway, it's more easy to ignore such complainers than trying to fight them. I'm one of those who's been affected by two crashes. One I could work around with low resolution for just the animation sequence. The one in Raedric's Hold is inacceptable ... and a complete game-breaker. And with that I hope for a first patch that will work like a healing spell for my frustration. -
Game Freezes on entering Keep.
Merina replied to noname's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Never heard of that program ... it's not installed here either. Why would it cause a crash of that loading screen and not other loading screens, too? -
Definitely? Truth be told, not even the developers can answer that. Or else the "gold release" would be free of such bugs like being locked up in Raedric's Keep ... almost funny how some claim that a loading screen crash is a hardware issue rather than a programming mistake. Just accept it that the game can run into fatal conditions depending on how it's been played, ... and how game data have been saved and reloaded. Once the first patch is released, we'll see. It will be an attempt at fixing some issues, sure ... and we'll continue with the post-release beta-testing. As for the positive side ... I like what I've seen so far. The 3rd restart with a rogue and "more thinking during combat" had been much easier than my first two attempts, but ... other fans of the game really do need to accept that being affected by crashes and reading about other major bugs causes frustration. No way anyone could talk me into starting the game again before the first patch will be available. I would dislike it too much to run into another game-breaking bug.

Crash When on Loading Screen
Merina replied to tainerballs's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Are you serious? Please stop bumping your thread like this! With just a little bit of reading in the forum you can easily find lots of threads about game-breaking problems that affect many people. It's not just you. At least one of the crashes can happen in multiple locations. For me it's Raedric's Keep ... and it scares me like hell to even consider restarting without a first patch from the developers. I've returned to IWDEE ... for some time... applied the new 1.4 patch and created a small party I always wanted to give a try. -
Berathian Priest Robes
Merina replied to mistero1982's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
You can climb up to the temple level without disguise, with minimal fighting, ... and reach Nedmar with the help of the robes, but after talking to some priests and guards. Then the passphrase can be helpful for that level of the keep only. -
Raedric's Hold game crash
Merina replied to TheLauron's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I've not managed to recommend it to the BG/IE fans here yet because I cannot lie about the problems I've been facing, ... such as the early freeze when observing the Robed Man ... and I needed help and ideas with some of such issues. It had caused some laughs when I told the party to move, and 1-2 heroes didn't stop at the destination but kept flickering back and forth on the spot. That happens way too often during demonstration. Now I'm stuck on Raedric's Hold Inner Sanctum level where I cannot take the stairs down to the Keep's Kitchen anymore. Black screen with red cursor, and the game doesn't respond anymore. What a disappointment! I cannot understand how the fan boys discuss playing at highest difficult and things like that, if such bugs exist in the game. It has seen beta testing, hasn't it? Any link to a support ticket or a response from a developer? Is the problem known beyond this thread? Is there an understand of what is damaged?- 316 replies

The most difficult fight for me so far... with a party of five at level 3 and almost a dozen retries. Strange. I don't know whether the way I defeated them is expected. So, I used food, potions and healing to help my blocker. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried at that level? Reading other forum posts about the combat system, it seems that clever positioning of the heroes is a must for many fights. But even with those two huge things being engaged, they did above 35 damage per hit, and I didn't feel too well moving the unguarded wizard into their back for his cone-shaped AoE spell.

Is Rogue Mandatory?
Merina replied to katie's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not knowing in advance which NPCs you will meet is a good thing and part of the role-playing aspect. But the option to create additional party members at the first inn is something that should be mentioned in the manual. -
Feedback on game
Merina replied to Suna's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There's enough voice-acting in there for my taste. Hello? ... Hello? (mocking Kana). -
Hard mode is too easy.
Merina replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm playing at normal difficulty, and I don't think it's too easy. I had started as a wizard with no idea when to meet a first companion other than those from the tutorial-like intro. The manual could have done a better job at explaining the possibilities of how to build a party. Once I met an NPC that suggested joining me, it was another wizard. Aaaaarrrgh! Once I met a fighter NPC, I found out I can hire a mysterious nameless level 1 adventurer at an inn, and giving that a try, it means I can create the entire character myself like another PC and even choose the name. This isn't mentioned in the manual, is it? The manual only refers to the Stronghold and its hirelings. Sometime later I found out I can create also a level 2 adventurer at the same inn and more of them. That made me restart as a druid and with a different story in my head. Probably too ambitious ... being more the cleric, wizard or paladin type usually. I'm not too fond of restarting so early. My Baldur's Gate 1+2 and Icewind Dale 1+2 knowledge doesn't help me so far. Too much is different ... especially the feeling on the maps .. especially when encountering enemies with their red circles around them. I have trouble positioning my party. Can't even think about offensive AoE spells yet, when enemies rush towards my party. Melee, melee, melee. And the wizard's missile spell is not the good old magic missile -- not that the wizard is a damage power-house anyway. Probably his most useful spell is mirror images. Combat is very hectic, even with pause inbetween. So many details to read about how they attack me, hit me, damage me, and so on. There's no long period of killing small parties of kobolds, goblins or xvarts on the way up to level 2. Much too quickly you are at level 3 without feeling stronger ... and that is because you're fighting shadows and other monsters you don't know at all. Almost every encounter gives the feeling of fighting a dragon. I don't stay on the roads. I explore as much as possible. I don't mind the occasional cave bear, although I'm warned ... but with a party of four, an added barbarian, it should be doable. Typically, 1-2 out of 5 go unconscious. Same for the shadows. Not a big problem as long as I finish them off, but I need to think this through once more. -
Can't trade with money
Merina replied to Filena's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
The point is, there is the audible sound of a successful trade (clinking coins), but the camp material stays in the shop, and no money is lost either. Very, very confusing. -
Game hang
Merina replied to ShadesofEternity's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Enter Graphics options and try a lower resolution. That has worked here with 1440x900 instead of 1920x1080. -
Cut scene hang
Merina replied to GanoesParan's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
We entered Graphics options and reduced from 1900x... to 1440x.... That made it work reproducibly one several similar desktop computers with Win 7-64. Give it a try!
