  1. Same here. They are looters. My main character currently is a Kind Wayfarer Paladin and thinks they are stealing ... there is no way to continue at that point, because it's them who attack me first. The party reputation shift for Defiance Bay is not for the kills but for returning the cargo to Peregrund. As the screenshots show. This could be improved. It has come up before: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72610-quest-ferry-flotsam-reputation-error/?view=findpost&p=1682840&hl=peregrund
  2. At Gilded Vale inn, wanted to create a Moon Godlike Priest of Eothas, and the Attributes started at Mig 10 Con 10 Dex 11 (+1) Per 11 <---- ??? Int 11 (+1) Res 10 with 15 points left. The two +1 are for Godlike, of course. But Perception 11 is wrong, and if hovering the mouse pointer over it, the description box at the right side of the screen says "Perception 10". It is corrected everywhere as soon as I choose a culture. The previous adventurer I had created was from The White that Wends (+1 Perception), so it appears that the game remembered that choice but didn't display it anywhere ... but added that bonus to the Attributes table without any hint. Conclusion: Creation of a new adventurer should start with a cultural bonus reset to zero ... as everything else is highly misleading. Alternatively, keep the previous bonus and mark it as such in the box at the right. Indeed, creating even another adventurer afterwards, it also starts with a stray +1 in the Attributes selection table without marking it as an explained bonus anywhere.
  3. Adding "some serious DPS" is highly dangerous in the case of enemies that can Charm/Dominate others ... as you don't really want to see the red circle appear around your melee/ranged damage dealers. Aloth ... with the right spells in his grimoire ... can cause the Fampyrs in that well-known battle some serious problems ... provided that you do try to bump your defenses and try to hold up the enemies, too. A similarly tough battle is when almost the same group of enemies chooses to attack the stronghold. Then you cannot take the environment to your advantage. There are still too many players, who min-max their attributes in hope of building "best" characters ... god-like heroes at level 1 ... when in fact this increases the risks because of low defenses and low health. You only have so few points to spend ... so trying to raise multiple attributes to 18 or higher does not automatically make a hero better. But any hero with Lore 6 can use the most helpful scrolls. Knowledge of consumables (food, potions, ...) and inn resting bonuses can be life-saving, too.
  4. Followup: It is reproducible! Any capable game programmer should be able to track down the bug ... proof-reading the code. Reproducing it may depend on speed of hardware. What happens is that the game interrupts the currently active Quicksave with the Autosave that's triggered for the area the party enters. For me it's Northweald, entering the cave ... I can corrupt the quicksave game on demand ... but the same will be possible with any other area transition, where the new area loads quicker than the Quicksave is done. I here open Windows Explorer on the Pillars of Eternity savegames folder and observe that the savegame size doesn't reach its final size, because the Autosave game feature kicks in and interrupts the Quicksave. Sometimes only 200 KB are missing. If I press F5, then wait a couple of seconds before entering the cave, it doesn't happen.
  5. It's a bug in the game, not in the installed files ... see what I replied in the other topic Bug // Character and items gone.
  6. Kindly tell what you think is the cause of it. I've just encountered this corruption again late in the game, at Northweald. All heroes but Aloth are naked ... and lots of random item abilities are displayed for each hero next to its small picture. I've made copies of the savegames ... but it is entirely unclear to me how uploading them would help you. I had arrived at the Northweald cave entry and pressed F5 to Quicksave. Then I entered the cave. The Autosave for that is fine and 6.041 KB long. The Quicksave is truncated ... at 5.599 KB ... and it's one minute older than the Autosave inside the cave. I didn't discover the corruption, because I cleared the cave and returned outside. The Autosave for that is fine, too, 6.045 KB long. Then ... impatient to finish the area ... I carelessly ran into an encounter where Aloth got into trouble quickly, and instead of trying to help him out, I just hit F8 to reload the last Quicksave. What has happened? ... To me it looks like the Autosave in the cave may have interrupted the earlier Quicksave and truncated it.
  7. Found a White March video at youtube with a hero having 446/446 Endurance ... how's that possible?
  8. As of Pillars of Eternity, I enjoy playing a Mountain Dwarf Druid with a Mountain Dwarf Knight as the first companion. "Knight" here means it's a tough fighter with a good balance between various defenses, shield usage and axe/sword focus. I only keep room in the party for two NPCs. Typically Durance is in the party always. Strangely, in this game, I've yet to create a priest as main character ... cannot tell why I haven't done that so far. Durance offers everything I need from a priest perhaps. Eder is entertaining and good to keep for a longer time, too. The only problem is ... a hired adventurer fighter is more capable than Eder. NPCs I send home early: Aloth, Kana, Sagani, Pallegina, Hiravias And Zahua and Devil of Caroc won't fit into my party this time either ... since it's my druid that is the mechanic. And Grieving Mother ... I've had here in my first play-through with give NPCs ... but we never managed to connect to eachother. I didn't like her and her story.
  9. Dear developers, there is one great feature in Sword Coast Legends ... which otherwise isn't a great game ... and that is the selection of portrait images that are generated based on the player's customisation of the player's hero (race, skin color, hair style, face, eyes). Due to that feature you can select from multiple portraits that match your hero closely, a picture taken from different view points. That is something that would be great to have in Pillars of Eternity, too.
  10. Nothing wrong with that? Might as a single attribute controls physical strength and spiritual strength at once. A mage with 18-20 might is also very strong and can act like that with regard to heavy items and scripted interactions ... e.g. lift a log of wood. That's not a good concept.
  11. Less loot could be an option in the game difficulty settings. Personally ... I like looting and filling several pages in the stash before visiting a merchant. Gives me access to lots of money ... and still not enough to buy all highly enchanted items. And ... about the many encounters ... worst of all is Pearlwood Bluff. The map is so small and crowded with enemies, you can run into one encounter, and the odds have it that movement of your heroes during battle causes a second group of enemies to join. Not that it's not doable ... it's too much. Whose idea was it?
  12. When leaving Stalwart before having completed the fight against Dazir, one can hear an Ogre shouting "Dazir's fallen! Back to the matron! Now!". The same voice can be heard everytime when returning to Stalwart and leaving it again before that fight. It's just an artifact ... no big problem ... as Dazir is still in the village, alive and well. 2.02.7xx -Steam-
  13. Much depends on how far to go with the definition of a "tank". I don't like pure meat-shields, who cannot do damage themselves. I've played them often enough ... and as often they become boring unless you are addicted to potions. I don't like those situations where such a lazy "blocker" with summons are holding up the enemy in a bottle-neck and my party cannot reach the enemy either ... if not using ranged attacks. There is also the risk that enemies ignore engagement or even teleport into the back of my party. A second blocker tank as last man isn't a safe solution. I do like more versatile fighters, which to buff and support generally ... to not only survive an attack but also to hit reliably and deal some serious damage. The trade-offs are that such a hero will not grab every defensive ability/talent but also learn a few offensive ones ... but, of course, wearing heavy armor, and likely a shield, means speed of attack will not be as high as for ... let's say ... a dual-wielding rogue with almost no armor and attributes tuned for high dps. Else ... you're asking about a "lazy-mans" low maintenance party ... but you're playing with the thoughts of adding two wizards or two druids already, which is exactly the opposite of low maintenance. And judging about a party at level 4 is much too early anyway.
  14. As not to forget clearing this up ... there's a book about "Dunryd Row" to find in the Thieves' Hideout. The only place I've found it so far ... which seems it's not random.
  15. I see that 0 on my main hero (a battle wizard). And that's with 2.0.2.x from Steam.
  16. It may have been a better idea to wait a few more months before starting a game then. I started my first game of PoE as soon as it had been released. Made me one of those running into game-breaking bugs early and several times ... with the necessity to restart from the beginning as the only way to fix it. No serious problem for me as I honestly wanted to give a try a few classes anyway. Eventually, I completed the main game with 1.0.6 something ... during a period when the developers were very busy working on 2.0.x and ... I guess ... the White March. In that playthrough, I've discovered enough options to give a try in another game. I could have used a save game before Burial Isle pit, but ... creating a completely different party is much more interesting. The White March background music in Stalwart and Russetwood makes buying the extension worthwhile already.
  17. If you're so undecided, ... a Rogue as main character is really fine. Either that or a two-handed weapon Fighter. Even if you want to keep Eder, another fighter doesn't hurt and can be skilled differently if you want. From Cilant Lis, sneak through Valewood and travel to Gilded Vale as quickly as possible. Visit the inn, hire one or two adventurers. Create them as you like. Get familiar with them. If you're not happy with any of your heroes later, you can reskill them completely for a bit of money. Also the NPCs. You can pick up all the NPC companions as well and switch them out of and into your party at every inn (or your castle). They still receive some XP while absent, and if you rebuild your castle a bit, you can send them on adventures to gain some extra XP even. Let them join the party for their side-quests ... or for the great banter in Defiance Bay, for example.
  18. Really? On my first playthrough with PoE up to 1.0.6, I always completed that fight, because I was in a hurry and didn't pay attention to the logbook stuff. Heavy armor for all, with everyone's back against the wall and lots of burn damage as one way to fight spectres and shades. However, we keep notes here, and we've noticed Maerwith at the inn as somebody who may be related to some quest. Then in the current playthrough I've been more careful and have had a PER >= 18 main hero, too. Else, there are many fights in the game where kick'n'rush won't work. And sometimes it may be necessary to return later. Exactly as in Baldur's Gate 2.
  19. I've encountered something similar. Not with Sagani. I had opened the Save dialog, not to save the current game, but only to delete up to 20 old saves very quickly. Afterwards, when I reloaded the most recent Elmshore save game, one companion was naked and one was gone. Only that single save game was affected. I could simply load the next older one without finding any such corruption. This has never happened before with 2.0.2.x from Steam. It may be related to deleting save games so quickly.
  20. The problem is, he disappears after some time if you don't talk to him. It's the "Frightened Villager" in the south-west corner of the Celestial Sapling inn. Twin Elms Hearthsong district. He isn't particularly easy to miss, but he doesn't wait there for a long time.
  21. Actually ... they gain quite a lot of XP from those adventures. And did you try recalling Eder from the adventure?
  22. Give a few names ... have you explored Stormwall Gorge completely?
  23. A minimum attribute, for example. Do you play with game options that show those requirements?
  24. With some of the companions I simply don't share any common goal and fail to see how they would aid me on my quest ... and kicking someone in favor of another is a difficult decision, too, because you first need to get to know them. Role-playing wise a tough decision, as the game doesn't give a hint whether a kicked NPC would leave forever after some time. Aloth : at least met first on a dangerous journey that has just begun - a welcome early help, friendly and made me curious - gets more interesting quickly due to the personal quest and banters in Defiance Bay ... the city I consider the game's climax Eder : similarly here - and travelling together for some time clearly is an option so early, especially due to visiting the same places as the watcher - great voice-acting, great banters, which keep it interesting Durance : I don't like his attitude and would not accept him in another playthrough - there is no motivation to let him join because he might contribute some worthwhile knowledge other than his stories about the godhammer - does he promise anything? Sagani : easy to connect to because of the chance to use the watcher's capabilities in an attempt at trying to help her - and perhaps we're searching for the same person even? Or maybe there is a connection? This makes Sagani interesting ... though, once the search is over ... it's kinda sad, and that's when I sent Sagani home ... well to Caed Nua, where she stayed for unknown reasons Kana Rua : not interesting beyond Caed Nua and his personal quest - I don't understand why he would stay in the party beyond the Endless Paths of Od Nua and not return home Hiravias : travelling together for some part of the journey as a common goal - else I kept him only as a second offensive spell caster ... he didn't talk much and didn't contribute anything special (Lore or other hints), so any hired druid would have been fine, too - I expected much more from him out in nature ... in Twin Elms ... other than a few odd comments that made me give a shrug Pallegina : any hired Paladin would have done, too - the party is full already, and one needs to send somebody else home, which is bad - her personal quest felt strange to me despite the shared travel location - her troubles, Verzano's troubles and the ambassador's troubles didn't really interest me except for the extra XP I could get, and I didn't learn much from her either - I only kept her for the extra content I didn't want to miss Grieving Mother : tedious ... tiresome ... the birthing bell and trying to figure out whether she might know something helpful ... like a second Lady Webb perhaps? ... No ... I sent her to Caed Nua together with Kana Rua and Sagani, and she's the only one where I didn't complete the personal quest due to not spending enough time with her
