  1. Has this been changed for the beta? No matter how carefully or quickly I approach the dying monk, there are two stelgars waiting just next to him and kill him immediately. The task fails and doesn't appear in the journal anywhere either, so I don't even get a hint what I may have done wrong this time. The two stelgars don't patrol. They seem to be waiting just a few steps east of his tree. Nothing works to draw their attention towards me. They rush towards the monk to kill him. A bug? Or related to me having visited Elm's Reach before?
  2. If I may have one wish ... just make items do what the descriptions claim the item would do ... or fix the descriptions to match what the item does. The only alternative to that would be for the main character ... not the human player ... to be clever enough to notice that an item does something different from its description, and the human player would be notified about that. Sort of like examining items in the stash and discovering something special. It's not so entertaining, if something doesn't work as intended or if one doesn't know whether it works as intended.
  3. More issues that are not in the reloaded savegame. * A Vithrack had dominated my rogue for more than 20 secs ... and I fled with the rest of the party. When combat ended, the rogue didn't have the green circle as the others, but could be selected and moved with the party, too. * After a different fight, the AI button stopped working ... and clicking them didn't toggle them anymore. Reloading saved game fixed both issues.
  4. To me it sounds as if you skipped the first step of the quest ... visiting the Scriveners' dormitory.
  5. This is with today's beta update: Cloak of Comfort +25 All Defenses for +20 sec per kill +30 Max Endurance +3 Damage Reduction That's the long item description. If equipped, it gives: +10 All Defenses +30 Max Endurance +3 DR And the "Active Effects" section of the character record tells: +10 All Defenses for +20 per kill What is true? +10 or +25? And for +20 sec per kill or always? I'm within Winfrith's Arms and Armory shop and waiting ... but the defenses bonus of the cloak is instant ... and it even stacks with both rings of protection (+5 and +9).
  6. You encounter vessels in many other places. But the new resting bonuses really make the game easier ... you can create parties for hack-and-slay runs, and these bonuses make that easier. Everyone who thinks the game is too difficult, should rethink about the rules and adapt to them ... rather than trying to apply strategies and character skilling concepts known from Baldur's Gate.
  7. Aarik D, I think the current beta suffers from new issues that creep into the game spontanenously ... and will be very difficult to reproduce by looking at someone's savegame, unless a problem really is 100% and easily reproducible. Usually quitting the game or reloading a save fixed some issues for me. It's not damaged installation files. I've played the game often enough to tell a story. For instance, my priest suddenly had unlimited uses of holy radiance during combat ... not only one per encounter. The holy radiance button switched back to one new use after the effect. Struck me by surprise I can tell you! My main char suddenly was displayed unarmed ... although all three weapon slots were full, and he was using the 1st slot most of the time. I simply clicked the 1st slot to make the weapon appear again in the graphics. After defeating the drake on Caed Nua level 5, using the master staircase ended the game with a black screen and just a movable mouse cursor. No music. Nothing. It seemed like clicking the mouse changed the cursor, but no progress. Not reproducible ... and I simply reloaded the last quicksave, killed the drake once more, and could use the staircase. The image of a shade/shadow appeared in one location on every map. No matter whether it was first fires district, hadret house or somewhere outside ... a frozen shade that cannot be targeted or interacted with. It's also not good that the beta doesn't fix long known bugs yet ... such as a summoned stone beetle accompanying me through multiple maps and lots of fights.
  8. The AI is so stupid ... it doesn't understand engagement at all. Is this a new change in 3.0? I don't remember that it has happened so often in 2.03 when I gave the AI options a try for my TC playthrough. Or maybe I didn't notice because I paused the game during combat too often anyway? There are enemies nearby, and they targetable ... and still the AI decides to have my aggressive monk and rogue run away in a large circle trying to reach a completely different enemy. It even triggers disengagement attacks. Why don't they attack the nearest target? I don't mind switching off AI again ... but hey, come on, an aggressive monk and a dual-wielding rogue are killing machines that finish enemies quickly. No reason to seek out a possible easier target first.
  9. I had read about that somewhere here ... and since 2.03.0788 the bard only rarely starts singing when I enter the Gref's Nest inn in Stalwart. Outside it seems I can hear her singing inside ... very low volume. Can't find where it has been reported before. It still doesn't work in 3.0 beta.
  10. Unfortunately this is not fixed in 3.0 beta.
  11. This should be easily reproducible in 3.0 beta. When opening a grimoire for the first time, no '+' is displayed on the spells the wizard doesn't know yet. Closing and reopening the grimore, the '+' appears always. Eventually something causes the problem to reappear ... probably loading a savegame.
  12. Next time, please decide more carefully where to post this announcement. I've just pulled some hairs trying to find it ... the other beta patch announcements are in the News and Announcements forum.
  13. Consider following the instructions pinned at the top of this forum ... and upload your savegame file to dropbox or a similar service. Are all your savegames affected? Or only a single one? ... Perhaps you've been hit by the savegame corruption bug as a result of interrupting an autosave with a quicksave or vice versa.
  14. What exactly are your troubles? Can you describe a typical fight ... and tell which map it is? I don't remember which of the attributes have changed since 1.06 ... but even I ... not a pro-gamer ... have finished the game in path of the damned and trial of iron mode ... and now can return to my much more favorite building of "wacky parties". I've played two-handed fighters often ... but I would give them higher perception, because they don't receive the accuracy bonus of single-handed fighters. They don't need high might, because two-handed weapons do higher damage already ... and there are other ways to increase the damage. They don't need increased Intelligence, because the duration of the few talents is small. They don't need high constitution, because they've got rapid recovery ... and Durance and potions for healing. And low dexterity is an extra hindrance for slow two-handed weapons. Could it be that your problems are more elementary?
  15. Monks are amazing ... and versatile enough, too.
  16. It is exactly what happens. You can have eight hirelings guard your keep ... and they will not be competent enough to defend against intruders. Worse, if you travel back to the stronghold with your party to defend the keep yourself manually, some of the guards may be on the battle map and either get caught in friendly fire or get killed easily by the intruders. Afterwards, the guards may be gone even if they had survived the fight. When you start spending money on your keep upgrades, it's always better to travel back to the keep with your party and defend it yourself ... but be careful. Some groups of intruders later are strong ... so wait long enough with keep upgrades.
  17. At the second level of the Ondra's Gift Lighthouse, I had my druid summon a Small Wind Blight ... to distract some of the Shades and Spectres in the distance. The Blight survived the entire battle. Full endurance and health. Afterwards, I moved upstairs ... explored there ... moved downstairs again ... outside ... to the Heritage Hill guard post, tried to have the Blight talk to the guard *lol* ... then onwards to the city map ... to Brackenbury district. Still accompanied by the Blight. There I was ambushed by assassins, who managed to kill the blight with crossbow fire. It's the first time for me a small blight has been with the party for so long. What is the typical summoning duration of blights?
  18. There are many good weapons, and you can enchant also most special weapons and give them an Accuracy bonus. As a Paladin I would start with other talents ... unless you really are into a particular weapon class. Also don't forget that you can reskill your hero at every inn.
  19. Still in 2.03.0788. It's played after having jumped into the pit on Burial Isle, in Breith Eamen on the way to Sun in Shadows. To me the voice sounds like Aloth, but I'm alone. Solo Monk. Aloth is still waiting at Gilded Vale. In the log the text is attributed to my main character.
  20. It's strange what you've read into this topic ... Everything should become clear if you read the few posts from top to bottom. There are references to "Dunryd Row" without a chance to ask "What's Dunryd Row?". A bit later, you get exactly that chance to ask that question ... but then you've likely found out already by either entering every house or looting the Thieves' Hideout. Without the book, there is nobody that explains the connection between Hadret House, Lady Webb and Dunryd Row, ... but you get a task and a journal entry mentioning Dunryd Row. Anyone in my party would have asked Osric: "What's Dunryd Row?" Even more so, if they haven't been to Defiance Bay before.
  21. That's not possible ... as truncated savegame files means that data are lost.
  22. The faithful of Eothas gain an Accuracy bonus with Flail and Morning Star and can cast a healing spell that shortens Frightened and Terrified durations. However, the effects description says: Effects: Friendly Target: +10 Frightened, Terrified Duration, +15.9 Endurance What does that mean? +10 Frightened adds something and is no negative duration in seconds. Comparing it with Prayer Against Fear, the effects description of that spell is clear. It gives the reduced duration in negative seconds.
  23. It could be this: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/83027-bug-character-and-items-gone/ A corrupted savegame file ... caused by interrupting area transition Autosave with F5 Quicksave ... or vice versa.
  24. The bear cave ... cheesy ... if you leave and rest for hours, the bear should get some rest, too. Poor bear. About summoning blights, you really try to pull a single enemy only, then flee if you've summoned the wrong blights?
