  1. I wonder how the controls are mapped on the XBox?
  2. I'm trying to talk Sarah into the slave girl outfit.
  3. Russia had pirated copies of Half Life 2 on the shelves a year ago when the source code leaked. India and China are horrible for piracy.
  4. That's begging to be made into someone's sig.
  5. Protect me? If I as an adult can't make decisions for myself, then who can? How is one man superior to another man in their ability to determine what is right and wrong? The United States (for better or worse) is founded on a blend of democracy (mob rule) and freedom. I'd like to try and uphold those two tenants, despite the fact that they often conflict with one another.
  6. Too bad gaming companies seem terrified to do something innovative like Shadow Run's, or White Wolf's magic system. CRPG players can't understand anything more complex than mana.
  7. It wasn't a direct response to you. I just think instead of killing everything in the galaxy, they should do something nice, and considerate for the new main character. It's a nice gesture, knitting a scarf.
  8. Isn't that what Cthulu is all about? Devouring everyone?
  9. Except they said they reserve the right to allow higher levels with expansions. Tell everyone the game is free for a while. And then hit them with higher levels, skills and items only available to paid members. It's a tried and true formula that many online games use.
  10. I'm 99% sure there isn't a single program that successfully "cracks" Windows XP so it didn't have to be activated. You know why? The windows kernel checks itself to see if you have altered key registry entries, or disable the copy protection. It then warns you, and reenables copy protection. There are people who use corporate builds that don't have to be activated. There are people who image preactivated builds of Windows. There are ways to alter the installation .iso of Windows so that it never installs a copy-protected kernel. But if you disable the activation check, it just reenables itself. No copy-protection is fool proof. However, I believe the online-activations will dissuade more hackers than not since it will make many of them paranoid.
  11. I the exact opposite experience. I couldn't like any of the KOTOR:1 characters. Jolee was the only likable one in my opinion. Carth was annoying. Mission was annoying. Bastilla was annoying. T3 and the Wookie were set pieces with no dialogue what-so-ever. Juhani was somewhat interesting except that she was annoying as well. What about character growth? Mission grew up a bit. Canderous threw his beliefs out the window for no particular reason. Jolee never changed. Bastilla was overtly emotional and denial about it the whole game. That never changed. Carth never really changed. By hitting arbitraty experience points, people would trust me more. "You killed random critters on Dantooine. Now I can emotionally unload on you." In KOTOR:2, the character's revelations are more tied to plot events, and the way that you interact with them. HK-47 is in KOTOR:2, and I dare say the HK line if FAR more interesting the second time around. Tricking HK-50 into saying things he doesn't want to is priceless. In the first game, the concept was new. But all we got was "meat bag". In the second game, we get far more sarcastic supplication. We get truly moving, personal moments that KOTOR:1 lacked.
  12. LOTR cost hundreds of millions of dollars, and took the better part of 5 years to make. You expect that in a game?
  13. The movie's ending is different from the book, which pissed off Burgess a great deal. The left out the entire last chapter.
  14. Will I be able to continue to level-up without the expansions? No. Will I be able to compete in PvP against players who are higher level and have better equipment? No. I keep hearing people complain about BEING FORCED to pay a monthly fee for a MMORPG. And MMORPGs put out new content, new bug fixes, they pay for servers, they pay for GMs, they put out new plots, etc. as part of that monthly fee. GuildWars is not as free to play as people think. MMORPGs offer free clients. GuildWars charges you for the client. MMORPGs offer free content. GuildWars charges you for new content.
  15. I believe that adults are to be held responsible for their actions. But what about children? I'm not saying they should be sheltered, but I don't know if I'd let me kids play GTA. I don't mind GTA being on the market, and I buy each GTA title. However, I wouldn't give it to my kids. And that determination of what is and what is not acceptable for children needs to be determined by the parents, and not some governmental agency.
  16. I don't mind the magic system.
  17. That doesn't work with single player games. Most online games do a cd-key check already. Online activation (via phone or internet) seems to be the way to go.
  18. I'd like to establish a culture that once was advanced, had computers, the works. Then a galactic electrical storm wipes away the entire culture since they stored everything on magnetic mediums. Society dissolves into chaos and anarchy. All of the digital media in the world is replaced by Marx Brothers movies. Technology is lost as an afterthought, and society adapts around the pun. Imagine.
  19. It took me several attempts to get into this game. I fully "get" how the game isn't fun for a variety of people. I also see the strengths that suck people in for 200+ hours. Morrowind is far from perfect. I'd junk the dialogue system, junk the skill progression system, and change some of the textures. However, when I did some travelling I found some Dwemer ruins. The underground was quite nice. The Ashlands are nice. The Bitter Coast is a brown swamp, and it's a shame that's what many players encounter first. Balmora is also a pretty ugly city.
  20. Ultima 7 has more dialogue in it than Fable, and wasn't Fable supposed to be the greatest RPG ever? Ultima 7 has countless stories written of fan-fiction. Ultima inspired the first real MMORPG, and drew 100,000 players at launch with no real advertising for a reason. The world of Britannia, the characters and stories are quite good. I got really choked up in Ultima 7: SI when . It's one thing to have a character in a 40 hour game. It's another to have the same characters develop over a series of games. I actually miss Dupre, Iolo, Shamino, Blackthron, British and the gang.
  21. I don't have any pet trolls.
  22. They've also said that post-launch there will be expansions to purchase that unlock higher levels, and more powerful items. Considering that the main draw for this game is that it's free, I don't know how free the game will really be.
  23. I'm level 6. I had members in my TOMBS party well before then.
  24. Thanks. I didn't think to look for a demo since I rarely download demos. I sometimes demo software through other means. Ahem. I tried "demoing" Gothic 1 when it first came out. It crashed every time I tried to load it. Haven't touched any of the Gothic games since.
  25. Yet millions say that Jordan is better than Tolkein because he's writting a lengthier series. Some of the smaller concepts inside Jordan's works are interesting, but most people don't realize that none of it is original. Jordan is blending mythologies, characters and stories from a variety of locations. I can deal with that. And some of the characters are interesting. But his plot structure is perhaps the worst I've ever seen. 13 books where the ending is prescribed from book one's prologue. The whole concept is one of cycles. And he's going to drag it out to 13,000 pages to complete his cycle. Yawn.
