Dragon Age: Inquisition vs. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Volourn replied to ktchong's topic in Computer and Console
"on the surface" ON THE SURFACE!?! P.S. Fantasy games are awesome. I'll never get bored of GOOD ones. "KoToR is not sword-and-sorcery RPG." Yes it is. (i took out FO because it isn't)- 256 replies

"To be fair, if backers were following the Kickstarter, they found out about the quest experience literally one day before the Kickstarter ended through a Reddit discussion on 15 October 2012. Of course, I realize not everyone followed the Kickstarter as closely as some others." To be fair, the backers were told not to judge the system until they tried it. And, we're called names if they argued otherwise.

Adult females overthrown teen males as largest gaming demographic
Volourn replied to Bryy's topic in Computer and Console
|"chicks have usually got better things to do." Men... or other 'chicks' (or PCish other women)? -
"Oh yes there are the strange and freakish elements such as the degenerates of the BSN and others, but even these should be respected and represented by gaming journalists as part of their mandate." Hard to take someone talking about 'respect' when that someone shows none.

Stupid drama. Who cares who and how many someone sleeps with. Don't be jealous. That said, she is one of those 'feminists' who claim that cheating on your significant other, not telling them, and then sleeping with them is basically rape so... hypocrisy. But, hypocrisy is a disease that afflcist many people. Still, why talk about thsic rap? It gives too muchc redit for all the losers involved (including the ex boyfriend). I really wish I didn't know this sort of nonsense. THANKS INTERNET.

"No Bad Builds" a failure in practice?
Volourn replied to SergioCQH's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
"The people at RPG Codex hate it because they're haters." 1. Nor more than any other forum including this one. 2. The example being used is Roshan who is not a typical Codexer and is not a fully participating member. I think he came just for the PE L0L. btw, If my memory is good, his fave games include IWD and PST. 3. More than a few Codexers in that thread are defending PE so stop being a hater and take the blinders off. -
Um.. if they pirated the beta you actually think they'll turn around and buy the full game? L0L They're scumbag thieves. They are gonna steal it. Period.

Godlike stats
Volourn replied to Judicator's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Are they truly god like though? Not everyone believes that. Plus, death Godlike looks stupid. The others look good too. Death Godlike is called that because I wish I was dead just looking at them which makes them worse than a medusa. -
"I think he's trying to say that if you have a choice between 'kill the creatures' or 'find another way' , you won't think twice if there's kill-xp involved - just kill them since 'why not?'- Whereas if there's no kill-xp, you kill them if there is no choice but consider other options if they're available:" Which most players don't do, of course. How many people actually killed every living in any IE game just ebcause they gave xp. I surely didn't and I doubt anyone did except for gigles when bored after playing it multiple times. I sure didn't wipe out entire villages and towns just to get the single digit xp that villagers gave me nor did I spam hunt kobold commandos in Firewine Bridge or hunt down every siingle last xfart in their village or purposefully hunt down neutral bears . It's called role-playing for a reason.

"I saw Man on Fire again the other night. Damn that's a good movie, Denzel Washington's best*." I agree that was a fantastic movie and definitely one of his top 3.

"Unlike Dragon Age, where all you have to do is just hit the attack button," Actually, you described BG more than DA. that's all fighters could do in BG (at least until TOB). In DA, you had LOT of options. Bg's combat is a lot more simple than DA combat overall. BG is about equal to DA. Stun, i cna't tell you if you are being serious or sarcastic...

Combat XP Poll - Let's See What We Think Now
Volourn replied to SergioCQH's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
"D:OS contains many key elements of traditional CRPGs although it's certainly built with a modern approach."\ \ It's a fun game but it's not old skool. Old skool games don't RPS passing as a dialogue system. "Look at the beta, right now you get XP for solving the oger quest once, if you would get kill xp from killing the oger people would solve the quest peacefully and than kill him, getting twice the xp they should get." Not if the game is done properly. "Yes because you skipped through tons of content with knowledge about enemies that you couldnt have on your first playthrough. You basicaly exploited the games balance problems like basiliks beeing complelty useless if you have a potion against petrification. Of course you can get a very high level in baldurs gate without doing quest, but thats easy in a game where you can exploit win any fight because of the ****ty combat AI and mages beeing completly not balanced." \I didn't play BG like he did. In fact, I prefer doing quests and what not. But, don't get all mad and pouty because he proved your silly thesis wrong. "[[Quest Complete: Quell the Flames]] +1000 XP" You wish it was that easy. L0L "That's exactly what would happen; I have heard however, that they will be adding additional xp for killing special monsters, or finding hidden ruins. If that is the case; there will be xp for general exploration which is good. If that isn't the case; poe is in serious trouble." IF they do that most of my complaints would go away. I have plaeyd games that didn't give you xp for every monster killed (SRR as a recent example) and had no issue with it. But, xp is supposed to reward the player for overcoming whatever and that isn't happening in PE... yet. -
You do realize that honest observations can still be personal insults right? It's not either/or. If I call you a douchebag for your post it's an insult but it's also true. Back to xp... XP is about rewarding the player for overcoming challenges, using their character skills, discovering things, role-playing, and advancing the story. I don't feel rewarded in PE. I felt rewarded in SRR. *shrug*

Radical idea - change attributes to more D&D like
Volourn replied to Ondb's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
"I still prefer it far over D&D which just promotes min maxing." So does this. Anyways, I think the attribute system itself is fine. Just needs some tweeks. -
Combat XP Poll - Let's See What We Think Now
Volourn replied to SergioCQH's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
The combat isn't brutal. It's not hard even with vanishing items. Then again, too many things are buggy since soemtimes enemies can't hurt me at all even when I'm hitting them with my fists. -
"I mean, by taking the logic of "the high-risk road should always yield a better reward" to its logical conclusion, players should gain more xp for wading through traps than what they'd get for disarming them." No. Because there is no skill involved. And, trying to disarm traps is a risk as you might fail and have them go off. Walking through traps isn't using your character abiltiies to beat the challenge. Use common sense. "hey know they are wasting everyone's time. They do not care. Because this is not about having a real discussion on design. " Yet, you are still spamming in the thread. LMAO

Combat XP Poll - Let's See What We Think Now
Volourn replied to SergioCQH's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
"Do people play for XP or for fun?" Maybe, it's both? People play for leveling their characters by getting xp and they do it for fun. IMAGINE THAT. "Why not play an MMO, like WOW, you can grind your way to max lvl with nothing but killing stuff. When you're done, do it again in different zone or diff char. Or GW2 where you get XP and benefits even at max level. No sarcasm intended." That's A LOT of sarcasm. Why don't they play IE games, DOS, M&M games, and a host of other games right? Your logic is horrible. And, against it's not about 'kill xp'. At least not for me. It's about legit rewarding the player for overcoming challenges in a fair and reasonable manner. PE does not do this. DOS does. SRR does. -
"Divinity: OS is one of the best cRPG's made." No. MAYBE top 100. It is a fun game but HIGHLY overrated.

Combat XP Poll - Let's See What We Think Now
Volourn replied to SergioCQH's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
"To be honest, it would be poor level design if I face a random dangerous creature in the wild that is not associated with a quest. That's the fault of the designer." \So, you believe random creatures should be just harmless fluff like a billion xfarts? Come on. I believe all encounters - random or otherwise - can be deep, challenging, and useful as test, challenges, surprises, and maybe even move the story forward. Have you not played pnp? Some of the absolute best content/combat can be random encounters if DONE RIGHT. -
That's always a risk with semi public betas. Dumbos are gonna judge the entire game based on BETA bugs because they aren't smart enough to figure out it's not final. I don't blame Obsidian for that. I'll blame the people who don't get that. That's why while I was annoyed with the vanishing items in the beta I'm not gonna bash the game for that. They're bugs. in a beta. they'll be fixed. Now, if they exist in the final released game, then the complaining will be justified.
