  1. Yes, and I'm one of them. (edit) I also liked BG1 & 2, Might&Magic 6 and 7, etc. That does not make me a roleplayer who notices story very much. See above post about roleplaying vs. just playing.
  2. Since I have no real clue what you're trying to say in relation to what I was saying, I don't know. There is, IMO, a difference between the kind of decision making you make in games like RISK and roleplaying. Games like RISK, you're still 'yourself' - most people look at such games as 'what would I do' not 'what would Patton or Alexander do'. They are not immersed in the game-world in the sense that they are someone else. They are still themselves. When I play a PC game, RPG or not, I never feel as tho I am someone else. I am merely playing myself, using an avatar to represent myself as I march around the gameworld doing stuff.
  3. I don't even have the patience to read this entire thread, let alone a million boxes worth of text for in-game 'story'. Even the best RPG's, the vast majority of the 'story' comes from descriptions outside of the game and what the player puts into it with his/her own imagination. I love to read books. When I want to be utterly lost in a world of imagination and what-if's I pick up one of those things. When I just want to get away from reality or more active hobbies and whittle away hours with something that doesn't require a lot of intense thought or decision-making, I play games. And there's the key to me. If I want to make decisions about entertainment/hobbies, I'd rather do my photography, or write my own fiction, or build a model car in the garage. Games to me have always been about escaping the pressures of having to make lots of decisions that will decide how something 'turns out'. I have to do enough of that in my life, and I don't find doing it in games very relaxing. Which doesn't mean I don't appreciate plot twists and turns in games - my actual taste in games is fairly broad, with favorite games coming from almost every genre - I just prefer stories in them to be more like novels...where I'm not constantly being asked to make decisions will affect the way everything goes. I don't affect the way the story turns out in a novel I'm reading...and I don't care much if I affect the story in a game. The point someone made early on that PC games and story aren't terribly compatible formats (or difficult to merge together, at any rate) is something I also agree with. I don't know if anyone remembers those youth books that had multiple endings and they'd say things like "if you pick choice A turn to page 125"....but I do, and I hated them. Awkward and takes you out of the 'story' by making you too aware that it's a story. The way most games deal with 'story' (even the 'good' RPG's) remind me of those books, and thus even while I can love a game for the gameplay, I tend to ignore the story or think the method of game-story telling is tedious...clicking A B or C to get different arcs or being interrupted in action from watching a 2 minute movie every 5 minutes isn't story in my book and makes me too 'aware' that I'm not actually in the gameworld and only staring at a monitor and clicking a mouse. Perhaps that's one reason the 'average gamer' doesn't tend to be greatly interested in story in games - most aren't serious role-players - they're just gamers. Chess and RISK and Monopoly etc. aren't roleplaying story oriented games....and I think the mentality of many 'average gamers' falls into that type of game-thinking...if I'm making sense.
  4. Hey, who you calling old?....oh wait...wrong forum... Seriously....I like that cartoon's style. Pretty cool, thx for the link. Old ladies or not, it's still pretty funny. :D
  5. I'm trying KalOnline right now. I doubt many here would like it - not RPG-enough - but it's not a bad freebie on-line action-rpg. Decent graphics, smooth running, plenty of people playing. Simple gameplay mechanics, large world. I haven't gotten far in questing or exploring so can't say if gameplay will get better/worse or more fun/really boring yet. Right now I'm standing in a river with about 2000 other players 'fishing' - fish are like heal potions and mixing ingrediants and...well...for some reason it's really fun to have the game running and be doing something for the game, and yet not actually playing. I get the feeling some people have left their game running while away on vacation, or something. lol
  6. Depends on the kind of dancing. Ballroom I'm pretty decent at doing, and it's fun. The rhumba, polka's, whatever....but you need a partner for it and hubby doesn't dance much. Dancing randomly to please myself I probably look fairly silly, but then who doesn't. Modern youth popular dancing routines of any sort, I'm clueless and you won't find me on the dance floor at all.
  7. Obsessed?....no...I like the silly but artistic martial arts stuff in it, and Chow...but not a huge nut of the movie persay. Cinematography-wise, however, I love it. :D In that same vein...I would kill for Raise the Red Lantern on DVD. Alas...doesn't appear likely to happen.
  8. I keep meaning to try this one, but I haven't had time/inclination... http://www.knightonlineworld.com/ Maybe someone else can, or already has? Someone who doesn't hate this time of game by default, that is... Also... http://www.onrpg.com/mmorpg-free-games3.html this site is pretty interesting to wade through - it's where i got the above link from. There are A LOT of games there, from terrible graphics to not too bad graphics, with user ratings and such. Some games listed are no longer free tho, and some are outdated (non-existant). But mostly, a fun browse.
  9. Just in case anyone's wondering, my current avatar comes from this picture: I like it cause of the fading-in of the two actor faces. But didn't shrink too well.
  10. Save game editor here: http://www.starwarsknights.com/tools.php P.S. it's not a graphic interface editor, but you can change all kinds of things..
  11. That article doesn't exactly engender much sympathy for the man.
  12. The most horrible part for me was the very first time I arrived on Malchor and realized I would have to play...........alone. Most exciting part....I don't think I have one. The first play-through, there were a lot of moments that jumped out at me and made me go 'alll riiiight!"...not sure I could list any one as the 'most'.
  13. That Hoff shirt will give me nightmares for a week. Chow again, holding my favorite type of weapon - a sword (blades in general). Going back to bald...Patrick Stewart is another man who is much better looking without hair. Rowr.
  14. The game has certainly made me look at certain things differently....or rather, it makes me associate some stuff with the game, rather than whatever the original intention is/was.... (and no, I didn't alter the subtitle...)
  15. Nah...you just like having lots of...options. Yeah, that's it. "
  16. Hellgate:London, by Flagship Studios I don't know if I'm actually 'looking forward' to this game or not, but I will be watching it closely as they develop it. All the brains from Blizzard North are there....1st person 'highly randomized' action-RPG....yes, I'll be interested.
  17. Oded Fehr looks really good with long hair. Not bad with short hair either. But he made The Mummy watchable.
  18. I barely know what shoes are, I buy/wear them so infrequently. Never have more than a couple pairs of shoes at one time, and they usually last me for years. Maybe three if you count flat sandals. But my current (very old) tennis shoes are a pair of Asics that have gel glued into the soles, and they're the most comfy I've ever worn. They need replacing but I keep putting it off. I have flat feet AND somewhat 'wide' feet so it can be hard to find shoes that don't either give me cramps in the arch or pinch my toes. I wear size ladies 5 to 6 (US) depending on brand - or boys size 4ish.. @Kaftan - Size 10 mens in the US isn't that small. Depends a lot on how tall you are and body build. My brother's 6 foot 5 inches but very thin and narrow-boned w/size 10's - his feet look kind of dainty but not absurdly small for his ankles. My husband is 4 inches shorter with larger bone structure (still pretty thin tho) and he wears a size 11.5-12 and looks like he wears boats.
  19. Oranges. Certain kinds of dirt after a brief and light rain. Meat charring (not fish).
  20. Bill Pullman. I could go on forever with all the guys I drool over but...I have to pick over some office furniture from hubby's old office. I expect to come back and find lots of Katt etc pictures.... *wink
  21. Atlantis is ok...still getting it's feet IMO. And that guy is kinda cute, but to me his character on the show is too bland. :D
  22. Just wanted to say...good reference post.
  23. np, DL...I was too busy surfing pics anyway. lol Guess I should put names hehe I think Chow Yun Fat is really drool-worthy too, love his intense gaze. Except I like him only when he's bald/almost bald. Bald can be very sexy.
  24. *wipes drool off chin*
  25. In terms of just staring at a color...that sky color about 15-30 minutes before complete darkness (when it's not cloudy etc). Just past twilight, perhaps. I wish it was like that all the time. In other nature: the look of ferns in a dark redwood forest. The 'color' of a clear mountain stream on a cloudy day. Flickering flames of a roaring fire and the color of wood-coals when all the flames have died down.
