  1. I dunno. RPGs from Japan tend to be much more polished since they cant depend on modders and until this gen they couldnt release patches. I think the whole unpolished thing is a symptom of PC gaming, for better or worse. JRPGs are more polished because they are much more linear with a pre-made player character and few if any dialogue options along the way. Nothing wrong with that if the game is charming and has a decent story (Anachronox, Chronotrigger).
  2. Awesome news! I was shocked how good Fallout 3 turned out under Bethesda and I can't imagine how cool it will be with Obsidian's storytelling/writing. Hopefully Atari wont be the publisher/involved in any way.
  3. I'm so hoping MoW misses its release date... just for the lawls.
  4. Lots of RE5 demo coop. I've always loved coop modes, but this is the first time where a coop mode has been so many leagues better than the single player portion. Playing just two short levels over and over for hours on end in coop mode has me nothing but excited for the full version. Also been playing a lot of GTA IV. Every game should have physics like GTA IV! I might be in the minority, but I prefer the silent anti-hero of GTA 3 to any of the 'talkie' sequels. In 3 it was like you were the character, but in the sequels you have to control some jack ass whether you like them or not.
  5. I'm pretty sure male full frontal leads to a NA-17 rating. Anything between the belt and the thighs is offlimits on R rated films. As far as most people are concerned those objects are only to be seen in porn. Not true, there is just a limit in how long it can be shown/the circumstances of it being visible is. I would certainly prefer if the dangly bits were only allowed in porn but its just not the case.
  6. Speaking of 'not getting it', I really don't see what all the excitement about the upcoming Street Fighter IV is about. Grew out of fighters over a decade ago, and SFIV just looks like the old arcade one, except in 3d, yet everyone is going ape over it.
  7. Seeing the mutilated zombies in Oblivion, with their brains exposed through their skulls and their junk apparently ripped off leaving a gaping bloody hole in their nether regions I was amazed Oblivion only received a T rating. I remember seeing a news article with a headline about Oblivion being re-rated M, thinking to myself they must have taken a closer look at the Dark Brotherhood quest/the zombies and then was shocked to find out it was because of hidden breasts. My main hang up about the ESRB is I perhaps wrongly associate it with the movie ratings system. R rated movies can display some really heavy sexual content that borders on pornography. A 'R' rated movie can get away with a male full frontal/heavy sex while anything remotely sexual in a game will catapult it to an AO rating.
  8. Hope you like quicktime events, because there will be a bunch. Just so that you know. I don't think I've ever heard someone say they disliked BiA. Even with the completely saturated WW2 shooter market, I thought it stood on it's own quite well. Anyways, if you didn't like the gameplay, the title Colonial Marines doesn't inspire much confidence that it will be different. Don't get me started on BiA. The characters where completely uninteresting (not to mention they start the game showing off the deaths of certain squad members spoiling any sense of attachment, not that I could become attached to that annoying soldier with the glasses), forced unskippable cutscenes so I had to listen to the main character's bitching over and over (many of the bitches were repeated over and over 'I never wanted to be squad leader'), a number of the reload animations were incorrect for the weaponry (despite being accurately modeled in more arcade like WWII shooters), the game lacked the prone position (one of 3 firing positions taught in the military and done in games years before BiA) and corner leaning, the weapons were insanely innacurate (WWII era weapons were by no means pin-point accurate, but firing a gun while aiming down the site and hitting literally 5-10 feet to the left or right of the target was insane... I've fired some of these weapons, and unless they were trying to simulate battlefield terror effects on a soldiers aim it was ridiculous), the game completely lacked pain animations (The original MoH from the late 90's on PSX had pain animations. You know, you shoot someone in the arm and they grab their arm etc. In BiA the only way you would tell if you scored a hit was if they were standing near a wall and some blood splashed on the wall), the multiplayer was completely unbalanced (While I've mentioned the ridiculous accuracy of the guns, in MP the Sniper Rifle was pinpoint accurate. Ironically, the sniper rifle would require the most training to use effectively) and to top off the stink fest the single player devolved into the same maneuver over and over. Yes, this maneuver may have been the primary tactical strategy of WWII, but when the game did almost nothing right this just turned the game into tedium.
  9. -Alpha Protocol -Aliens RPG -Aliens: Colonial Marines (I really disliked Brothers in Arms, but I'm still hoping they do a good job with CM) -Batman: Arkham Asylum -Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (I love the idea of a combination remake of the full original game plus a sequel just as long as the original.) -Doom 4 (Still a long ways off I'm sure) -Rage -Wolfenstein -Prey 2 -Ghostbusters -GTA IV Expansion: Lost & the Damned -Halo 3 ODST (Stupid name, but I'm one of those crazies who has enjoyed the series so far) -Halo Wars -Resident Evil 5 (The single player demo was frustrating as hell. The companion doesn't seem bright enough to escape from the hoards and losing her = restart. The coop with a competent buddy is an absolute blast though.)
  10. Played the demo of Resident Evil 5. At first, I wasn't too impressed with it playing in single player. The computer controlled companion can be stupid at times and it got frustrating losing missions when the companion died. Then I tried the coop and I absolutely love it. So much fun working with a buddy who has a clue.
  11. Definitely on my top 10 list of best RPG games ever made. Quite a bit of things go into making a good RPG and I think Torment really nailed those elements. -Good story? One of the best, if not THE best in a RPG. Check. -Good rule system? D&D rules are one of my favs. Check. -Music? I sometimes listen to Planescape music when not playing the game. Check. -Good graphics? Love the infinity engine. While not as flashy as IWD it was still a great looking game. Check. Ok... so the combat wasn't all that engaging or challenging, but it had purdy spell effects and combat is pretty low on my checklist of things that make a great RPG anyway. If other elements that make a great rpg are of high or excellent quality than I can almost always overlook lackluster combat/encounters. I think the infinity engine d&d games were the golden age of rpgs, each one offering an excellent aspect of the genre.
  12. Not too long ago I played the Pool of Radiance series in DOSBox and I'm currently working my way through the Dragonlance games.
  13. What in the world is your major malfunction with this restoration project anyway Marcus? If you have no interest in it why bother posting. As for a long wait... big deal. Its a group of fans working on the project in their spare time. I'll be happy if it ever sees the light of day and doesn't end up like a large percentage of mod projects and gets shelved. If there is anything to get angry at its Lucasarts/Obsidian for the rush job/leaving in cut scenes that made 0 sense. A cut scene with GOTO threatening Bao-Dur's droid with NO resolution... huh? A hacked ending that makes you feel like you missed major plot points... lame. A group of fans willing to spend 4+ years working on implementing content that should have been in the first place... go for it and good luck.
  14. "He doesn't need another game, he needs help" Edit: Disclaimer - I've never played any Sonic games. Never played any of the newer '3d' versions, but the original Sega Genesis Trilogy was amazing and made that fat plumber Mario look like... well... a fat plumber. Being able to combine the Sonic 3 cartridge with the Sonic & Knuckles cartridge was especially awesome and created a mega game.
  15. I rather liked the quick time events in Tomb Raider Legend & Anniversary. They were slow enough to react to and if you failed a fairly hilarious/awesome death sequence played. Especially loved the motorcycle deaths in the Japanese level of Legend. I generally hate button mashing though. If it has to be used, I prefer the San Andreas method where if you fail you just fail at something that will boost your character's stats, and not end up dead having to repeat the button smashing till you 'win'. Think the worst example of both button mashing & quick time events were in Resident Evil 4. Absolutely love the game, but I friggin' hated watching the same $#!^ $@(& @(#@ cut scene over and over again after failing a button mash/quick time event challenge. Even worse, the PC version didn't tell you the right button to press in the events, using controller button prompts instead of the keyboard bound buttons.
  16. I'd take ragdoll physics any day of the week over 'eye candy'. Heck, the game could just be stick figures in wire frame land and I'd be happy.
  17. Skullcrusher? Is that THE Skullcrusher from Pool of Radiance?
  18. That means , making that one worth buying for that fact alone. I think the DLC stuff sounds rather cool.
  19. I coated his heart with the salve to increase the speed at which the woods will regrow around the Oasis. He was initially upset that I had ignored his request to kill him, but he took solace that his life brought happiness to the local druids and that 'Bob' would make the wasteland a better place over time. That and he enjoyed the company of the young girl who talks with him. Didn't get the barkskin perk for this method but I liked the outcome.
  20. I've waited an extra pointless year for MoW, I can wait a bit longer for SoZ. F3 has been keeping me preoccupied.
  21. I guess Fawkes is more of an 'it' now. If you check Fawkes' door computer and then go one room back and check the scientist's computer you will see Fawkes' designation number as being one of the 3 female test subjects. All the super mutants lose their male/female organs. As for using the spoiler tag for the ending, I figured some people might be reading this having not beaten the game yet. Just trying to be extra careful.
  22. Argh! After 87 hours and 30 odd minutes I finally beat the game!... and the ending sucked!
  23. The Chinese Assault Rifle is completely unrelated to this area, though I have no idea about the pistol. I found the X-Chinese Assault rifle at Dot's Diner near the Jury Street Metro Station on a dead guy's body.
  24. They are neat to find out on a lonely road but they aren't fun to find in your shoe.
  25. I think Hurlshot is right, not based on the past 'true' Fallouts, but on the spin-offs that came after Fallout 2 like Tactics & BoS. I'm not sure how well Tactics sold but from everything I've read BoS did absolutely abysmally, both in fan reaction and sales.
