Yeah, Fallout has always been uber realistic with super mutants, radscorpions... that play chess, a talking plant (shudder). -
Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
GreasyDogMeat replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
In response to the last post from Fallout: New Vegas Thread (minus the thread is closing post of course) Yeah, yeah, and that same argument could be used for much of the wood in Fallout 3. I fail to see why all these skilled carpenters of the west coast would create all of these dressers and cabinets and let them all degrade as if they were left overs from a bygone era. Thats beside the point. Getting grognard over every piece of furniture and computer is ridiculous. A good story told through computers 'that shouldn't exist anymore' and left over visuals is a good story. If Obsidian wants to tell their story through a meticulously realistic look at a post nuclear holacaust world (which neither original Fallouts were, even if they were more so than F3) or throw computers and wooden cabinets (that should have degraded decades ago) all over the place I'm fine with either method as long as the story is good. Considering Obsidian's track record a good/great story is highly likely. Oh, and by the way, Fallout: Broken Steel is out today so I'm a happy panda. Dogmeat puppy perk ftw! -
You're kidding... right? Only about a million wooden doors, cabinets and dressers through almost every city locale like the Hub, Junktown & Adytum. Searched almost every damn one hoping for stray caps or a stim pack or two. As for F3's lack of agriculture... sure it could have just been ignorance or ignoring F2. It could also have been a deliberate attempt to go for a 'wasteland' look. If Bethesda had actually added regrowth there likely would have been fan outcry of it not looking like a post-apocalyptic wasteland. I honestly don't care about these nit picks. The game has a great visual look and I can accept any mistakes about how far things would/should be degraded vs. radscorpions wearing glasses and playing chess.

Got me on the food... (Maybe DC just did a better job packaging their food. ) but wooden pre-war furniture & buildings are EVERYWHERE in F1 & 2. While there certainly weren't as many computers, there were still some in locations that would have been extremely unlikely to still function.
-
I think all the focus on 'this wouldn't still be standing/edible/exist/etc' after 200 years is a bit odd since previous Fallouts had the same issues. I guess that the switch to a first person perspective, being up close and personal with the environment, makes this issue more readily apparent. Either that or people just grasp at straws for any little tid bit to hammer Bethesda over.

IGN review http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/978/978587p1.html I'll stick to CoD & MoH. -
The gore in the Wolverine game is surprising to me. Hasn't the X-Men comic always been aimed at kids/teens? I've only ever read one issue... so maybe I've had a false impression of the comics. It makes sense though... look at those claws. Raven Software also created the first two Soldier of Fortune games and Wolverine is just their violent ghoul body dismemberment system 3.0.

Atari pretty much screwed everyone by delaying MoW for over a year and a half for development of their DRM. Ossian, NwN/D&D fans, the future of the Premium Module releases... heck they even screwed themselves if their philosophy as a company is to make money since they've lost numerous potential sales from the delay. I so hope the genius behind this delay decision loses his/her job.
-
I'm generally not interested in JRPGs, but I've played a few I really enjoyed like Chrono Trigger/Cross & Anachronox (yeah, American made but still JRPG styled). I have to admit though, I've been a bit interested in Lost Odyssey.
-
Good Lord, man. Why? Well, whats the competition from other RPGs really? Some trivial delivery quests and basements with rats. F3 did a great job, imho, of giving a fly by of the character's life, introducing characters and showing off the abilities.
-
Talk about cutting off your nose (DRM development time) to spite your face (NwN fanbase, DRM alternatives already available, NwN Lifespan).
-
And i dislike people who thinks that only their oppinion is the correct one... Opinions are fine, but the FACTS! Facts can be corrupted on the intarweb. It's just one of those LONG boring pointless pathetic conversations. Am I interested in MoW , YES! Will DRM effect my ability to play MoW, NO! DRM has affected your ability to play the game for the past... what is it now? Year and a half? More?

I think the location I'm most looking forward to exploring would be the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino. http://www.wildnatureimages.com/Treasure-I...-Show-Photo.htm. Plenty of cool possible ruins to explore though http://www.fortogden.com/lasvegaspictures_1.html.

Currently [rather concurrently]... Fallout Tatctics Ravenloft:Stone Prophet Stonekeep Redneck Rampage Rides Again Next on the list is Spellforce, Sacrifice, and a return to Arx Fatalis *At the moment I just found something called Loki that I'll be trying next ~Its by Dreamcatcher, so expectation is low... **It looks like LOKI uses Gamebryo (I see all these Nif Files being copied by the installer.) I loved Sacrifice. One of the most imaginitive and enjoyable RTS games I've ever played.

Anyone who hates the opening to Fallout 3 can simply create a major save right before exiting the vault. It then gives you the option as you leave to change ANYTHING about your character. I personally thought the beginning was one of the best openning tutorial sections I've seen in a RPG.

Heh, I wont have much to offer in suggestion about how I want Fallout New Vegas. My only real complaint about Fallout 3 were a few voice actors and a few sections of writing and plot points. Things that I'm quite sure Obsidian wont have a problem with. Sure, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. could be improved etc, but I honestly didn't mind most of the changes. One example being lowering skill maxes down from 200 and 300 (F2) to 100. The numbers were just arbitrary so why not use a nice round number, easy to rationalize like the 1-10 for statistics. One of the many things I love about the Fallout special system it is easy to immediatly visualize what kind of character you have created, as opposed to almost every rpg on the market. Okay, I have a strength of 53. What does that mean? Whats the max? Is that like, really strong? Oh, wait, I'm barely doing any damage to those rats with my sword... so I guess 53 isn't all that great.

GTA IV: The Lost and the Damned. I like the main character Johnny a heck of a lot more than Niko. Niko is always whining about something. How could one be in such a sour mood when its so fun to drive over pedestrians left and right? Some awesome new tunes, more emphasis on blasting things and some sweet new weapons. Considering replaying the classic Fallout games. I never did manage to beat Fallout Tactics. I always made it about halfway through and then got bored with it. Sure, the combat is excellent, but Fallout 1 & 2 had so much more to do. Plan on getting all 3 Fallout 3 DLCs at once when the final one, Broken Steel, comes out on May 5th. Pretty excited about Broken Steel as the lame ending will be changed and the ability to get to level 30 will be added among other interesting additions.

I'm able to simply think of it in terms of a top down RPG instead of a FPS when it comes to the ridiculous amount of bullets enemies can absorb before dying so it didn't bother me. Certainly understand the felling though.

I was ready to snatch MoW up the moment of its release back when it was announced... until Atari decided to set a new precedent for scumbaggery by delaying it for well over a year for DRM. Wont touch it now. Well... unless it comes out on a disk... without the drm. Pretty much trying to avoid anything published by Atari now. Which can be difficult considering some of the temptations like the new Riddick game.

Speaking of M1 Garands, I would love to see some real world weapons added to Fallout: NV. Fallout 2 and Tactics both added numerous real world weapons like the WWII 'Grease Gun', Thompson etc.
-
Rage Wolfenstein Prey 2 Doom 4 Fallout 3: Broken Steel (The changes to the lame ending would almost be worth the price of admission alone) Fallout: New Vegas Halo 3: ODST Red Faction: Guerilla Next GTA IV DLC Alpha Protocol

Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
GreasyDogMeat replied to Fionavar's topic in Computer and Console
Thats good to know. Don't get me wrong, I love the dark humor and easter eggs of the series but I don't think the easter egg type humor should be so far front and center. -

They went overboard IMHO. Genius chess playing radscorpion with glasses and a talking plant (among many other instances of cheese) would have been fine as easter egg encounters but they were incorporated in the main game. -

This should be in bolded in point 72 font at the top of every page in the design docs One thing I preferred about Fallout 1/3 is that they didn't go too crazy with the jokes/pop culture references.
