You gotta go to the Stratosphere Hurlie. You have to do the rides on top and say hi to Mr. House while you're there.

I've built a time machine...where do you want to go?
Guard Dog replied to BruceVC's topic in Way Off-Topic
I'd take the time machine back to just before Bruce invented it and then stop him from inventing it to prevent him from altering the past. Which would in effect be altering the past I guess. But in all seriousness I'd like to see Rome at it's high point. I'd love to have a talk with the folks at the Philadelphia Convention in 1787 to give them some insight as to what was coming and see if they want to make any changes. I'd love to split a bottle of good whiskey with Hemingway in a run down tavern in Havana in 1935. Last but not least I'd like to go back to Bonefish Grill in Coral Springs, Florida on September 29, 1995 and stop myself from asking out the woman who would later become my ex-wife. I'd be doing us BOTH a sold. Oh yeah, one more thing... dinosaurs. Not optional, must see. -
I was in Savannah GA for work the last few days. That is a pretty cool city. I went on one of those ghost tours. I didn't see any ghosts but I did find a really cool bar that has 48 different beers on tap. I didn't try them all but I gave it a good run.

I hate it like poison. I have nothing against the plane or the actual act of flying. It's the airports, crowds, delays, aggravations. It seems nearly every airport is staffed with people who should be in a locked room eating crayons somewhere. And the only thing worse is your fellow passengers. What ever etiquette people have obviously got checked with their luggage. No wonder the flight attendants are so grouchy. When the plane lands I get to get off and walk away, all they have to look forward to is another flight and a plane full of fools. If it's at all possible I'd rather drive. Just my $.02.

I vote Libertarian whenever they have a candidate in the race. But they just have no real presence where I live. When I lived in Florida and was actually involved in politics we were a viable party there.

"In 2014 Obama refused to obey the Law. Help us elect Rep. Generic Republican who will force him to be held accountable!" Certainly seems like ad fodder. Nice to know congress is focusing on what is important. Yup. Sad thing is they are getting my vote this year. Not because of this or because they deserve it. I'm voting Republican only because they are slightly less repulsive than Democrats IMHO.

As I posted above, I really doubt that bill is a serious attempt to accomplish anything. It looks like a bill designed to be either vetoed or scuttled in the senate for the pure purposes of making commercials and other kinds of political hay of it.
-
No, the plan here is if they can get it through the Senate (possible but unlikely) the President will veto it and they get a nice little potical soundbite or two out of it for the elections. Oh look, the President refuses to obey the law, executive over reach, Obama is a dicatator, that kind of thing. While I do think executive abuse and over reach are a serious problem that WILL need to be addressed before Obama leaves office, this bill is desiged to be vetoed. I do not approve of the legislature send up bills designed to fail for purely poitical purposes. That is not what congress is for and, quite honestly is an abuse of their power. Besides, the Dems can torpedo this in the Senate and deprive the GOP of the soundbite. They will still get one but it won't be as effective as if Obama vetoed it. But the House GOP does love their quioxitc causes.

Just finished Cornwells The Lords of the North. It was great. Now reading The Martian by Andy Weir. It's about the first astronaut to reach Mars coping with finding out he's stranded there. It is a page turner. Worth checking out. Also reading Smuggler's Blues: The Saga of a Marijuana importer Jay Carter Brown. A pretty cool memoir of a drug runner that managed not to get caught or killed.

I found a really cool radio station on I Heart Radio today. What can I tell you... it was a slow day for me

Wait a minute here. I've read this three times and I want to make sure I am getting your meaning. Are you actually suggesting that distrust (hatred in your words) of government is the same as racism? Or is somehow rooted in racism? If so that is the most appallingly stupid thing I've ever seen posted here. And considering the folks who post here, that is saying a lot. Please tell me I'm misunderstanding what you are driving at. If so, my apologies. Personally I think that some of the dislike of Obama is not really based on his policies but on the fact he is black and how some people resent the fact they see there interpretation of what defines the USA as changing. I'm not saying this is why you dislike Obama as you have given your reasons in the past and they are not based on his race. But surly you can't deny that some of the criticism of Obama are really about racial perspective? Sorry, you are really off base on this one. By this logic the only way we would not be racist is if we rolled over and gave him everything he wanted. His opposition if rooted in ideology, and in some cases good old common sense. You know, I KNEW I'd had this conversation before. Read posts 408 & 412 http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/49786-us-presidential-elections/page-21?do=findComment&comment=886880

What do you know. Considering the name, and the fact that KP was drinking it I was sure booze was going to be the qualifying ingredient!

Shake and bake pork chops, baked potato, fresh carrots from the garden. Sometimes the simple things are the best.

I'm a lot less worried about the terrorists in the middle east than I am about the ones just north of the Potomac right here at home. And the Patriot Act gives them way too much power that they have already shown they are happy to use against their own people.

Amen Brother! It was a bad law that was ill-conceived, heavy-handedly applied and has allowed the last two administrations to do terrible things. That was the most serious blow to our freedom in recent memory.
-
I don't know if I'd say all the recent Presidents were terrible but I have very little positive to say about the last two. There is one thing I think no one would argue with is that the cause of individual liberty and freedom have been dealt a setback by both Bush II & BHO. To me that is the only thing that matters. The reach, scope and power of the federal government has increased, drastically on some things, federalism has decreased and our own personal freedom has been diminished. That is not a good thing.

Master of Orion II was quite simply the best computer game ever made... period. Such a shame that MOO 3 was one of the worst. It killed the franchise.

Wals are you getting grumpy in your old age?

Robobama would have eliminated republicans, as he would no longer be restrained by Human emotions and morals, instead having nothing but a heart of cold and lifeless steel. In all seriousness, this is a troll thread, so we might as well post the weirdest **** we can to **** with the NSA. Obama is apparently fan of Spider-Man comics, so if he becomes a super-villain, will he be called Doctor Obamapus? Not Morbius, Morbamaius! Only instead of sucking the blood from beautiful girls he sucks the money from your saving accounts! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morbius,_the_Living_Vampire

I think Obama has been the greatest USA president I have ever seen in my life, and I'm sure history will remember him favorably. There are many people on these forums who I like and respect immensely but don't like Obama, like GD, and thats fine. We all have our own opinions and perspectives. One thing that people must realize is that I see Obama from an outsiders perspective. And trust me when I say this is that from a global view George W Bush was much more unliked and reviled and fairly or unfairly tarnished the image of the USA that America still has to deal with. For example when the USA was considering attacking Syria due to there contravention of using Chemical weapons the standard response was " oh another country that the USA wants to invade for oil, like Iraq" Anyway here is a good link that raises some of the positive things that Obama has done http://whatthe****hasobamadonesofar.com/ Bruce that link is laughable. A number of the things he got credit for were in the works for years prior to his first term. Any President would have signed them, it just happened to be him. A number of others he reversed after signing them. Like closing Guantanamo. A handful were just outright false. Like the VA appropriations. It has had a net increase in his last six years but the rate of increase was less that originally planned. I don't need to explain the concept of baseline budgeting to you but some in DC call that a cut. Remember, his admin floated the idea of making wounded veterans pay for their own post-separation care. It is way too soon to even guess how history will remember the Obama admin. Heck we are only now getting a good feel of what George Bush I and Clintons legacies really are. For good or ill he is tied to the Affordable Care Act forever and if it continues to be the disaster that is has been I suspect history won't be kind.
