  1. Reputation doesn't matter. Whoever you start the 2nd quest (you started bronze beneath the lake) for will be your ally, so it's the Dozens for you. Lady Webb mentions Dunryd Row as a last resort, but I never got to try that.
  2. I never met those on my 1st playthrough and was surprised on my 2nd. They were quite a challenge for a level 8 party.
  3. bottom of this page: http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Talent + Gift from the Machine + Effigy: companionname I think that's all.
  4. 1. That's a full list of what's considered cheesing, not a list of what you used. 2. I consider this rather a superior version. Stats are much higher and breath damage is insane. You just can't stand in front of it and cast the appropriate spells. Not to mention you can prebuff in BG2, but it's pointless to argue about which dragon is easier or harder to beat. 3. Check the combat log! The wiki lacks info, and the in game descriptions are sometimes inaccurate or plain simply lacking any kind of info, like those "modifies whatever_ability" descriptions. 4. My view on this: You create a thread in hopes of a pat on your back, clearly not in good faith, but to feed your ego, just like the rest (with 2 exceptions that simply discuss strategies) who create yet another AD thread. You will pardon me if my attitude isn't very positive towards this. 5. Those are actually quite good, especially [4], but unfortunately none of them would serve as a proper response. The closest would be the 2nd [1], but it's not really the x4 damage modifier I consider OP, but the decreased stats and being unable to do anything (which also applies to paralyze). Anyways, no hard feelings. I had a good laugh after reading 5!
  5. I've done some tests to be able to answer your other questions properly, but they already have been answered. All the above gentlemen are right. Here's an example ^ That fighter has 86 accuracy for auto attacks (this includes the "superb" bonus). The same accuracy applies to the knockdown effect + 12 ability acc bonus for being level 12 This applies to abilities done with the wielded weapon.
  6. A simple matter of perspective, what's cheesiest : - 4 seconds worth of free time on a boss, including party movement time. or - people cleaning up the whole room of adds, before engaging the A.D herself ? Every single video, every single screenshot I've seen, people get there with maxed level 12 parties, enchants, potions and scrolls, cheese-clean the room, then get to aggro'ing the A.D, and resort to cheap Walls and Raw damage D.O.Ts to do the job. I'm kinda proud of my sub-level 12 hard mode encounter with the adds still alive. Good job, now do the same without using traps, potions, scrolls, summoning items, paralyzing/petrifying or shooting it from above (and other exploits). On my first playthrough I didn't even have the luxury of non-hostility until you attack. My 1st ever kill was using priest seals. Instant ~-40% HP. That was cheesing on my behalf (after a gazillion reloads and the same chit-chat over and over again). Later I managed to kill it quite easily with no cheesing. You pretty much need a bait (use Edér), a few debuffs and high spike damage like MPPB that ignores DT. Use others to keep the adds away from your main damage dealer (Aloth in my case). No DoTs or raw damage necessary.
  7. Not really. Granted, I'm still in act two, but I give the best gear to whoever would use it best. I don't really use the watcher talents, and Eder got the weapon focus ruffian talent for free. The talents are rewards from factions, the watcher abilities have 0 impact. If I compare statistics on Edér and Pallegina: Total damage done: Edér: 37372.6 with a sabre and shield Pallegina: 25504.6 with a greatsword Weapon focus and style talent on both. They are both well equipped. Edér has been in the party only 1 day longer. This is on my ranger playthrough where I kept her just for that stupid +6 accuracy and +5% hit to crit conversion. Not worth it all. The next time I recruit her I'll point her to a nice and cozy bench in the stronghold.
  8. Good accuracy and +20% hit to crit conversion? Maybe more with the right weapon enchantment and a paladin? Anyways, here's my ranger. Quite terrible compared to my fighter.
  9. Because it's extremely rigid. If you know at least a tiny bit about how to create various types of steel this shouldn't even be a question.
  10. The guards must have seen through walls then. Tried it on my 1st playthrough, didn't bother sneaking on my 2nd. Will give it another try on my 3rd. Thanks for the heads up, Jorge.
  11. The issue is with ToI and soloers. What would be the point of losing aggro?
  12. It's the "low level effect". I played a lot of NWN/NWN2, made literally a 100 builds. I could have a level 30 character with 76 combined AC without a shield that could reliably dodge, not everything tho. If you have that much a d20 isn't that much of an issue, but if you are lets say level 1 then it's pretty much a d20 vs your base 10 AC which can be anything. Sounds familiar? Maybe it becomes more balanced in PoE2 with a raised level cap. @AlphaMagnum that's the first reasonable idea I've heard so far and I support it 100%
  13. How do you do that peacefully? Sneaking in even without being detected makes them hostile. I can only resolve Rymrgand's quest peacefully, those few at the end of Noonfrost. On top of that how would I bust the girl out?
  14. Lets not forget bouncing confusion from Umber Hulks which was pretty much an instant reload for me.
  15. Yes, pretty much. Rolls are too random. You can't pump your fortitude high enough to reliably dodge even if your opponent has low accuracy. The attack resolution is supposed to be a DnD rip-off with a 5:1 ratio. On top of that lets add some water to the flaming frying pan with the grazing mechanic.
  16. what?? The issue isnt bad rolls, the issue is that it it doesnt seem to even be dodge-able and even when it grazes its still instant death. Ive checked the rolls, cant remember the numbers off hte top of my head but this isnt just me crying coz i got a bad roll, it consistently hits me at the start of this encounter every single time as long as the AI decides to cast it and when it does im dead unless i managed to get my figurine out fast enough to protect me and even then im usually still petrified by the time the figurines die Are you even reading?! High defenses don't mean anything because of d100, i.e. I'm agreeing with you that it's not dodgeable i.e. even really bad rolls will at least graze you. You'd need at least ~185 targeted defense (on PotD) to have a good chance to dodge which is pretty much impossible to get.
  17. I hardly ever miss with spells. Spells get +10 accuracy on top of your base. For example a wizard's spell accuracy (base 20 + 10 for spells + 3/level) is pretty much the same as lets say a fighter's weapon accuracy (base 30 + 3 per/level). Everyone gets 3 accuracy per level, so there is nothing to worry about. Compared to DnD this is miles better than melee/ranged touch spells with a low BAB. I always hated those.
