injurai
So why is Venezuela on the list of countries on the travel ban? Seems kind of out of place. I guess NK is as well, doubtful they even have all that many. World's largest oil reserve, largely untapped. Country nationalized it's entire oil industry which was built on labor of foreign industries and foreign investment. It's now an authoritarian socialist state keen on purging (letting starve) or pushing out as much of it's population as possible to limit how large a population the state needs to support. Famine and riots are rampant. It's a country that large swaths of the population would emigrate to an immigrant country if given the chance due to the current conditions. Something to do with all of that. Yeah but was looking at it from a safety (supposedly, anyway) point of view. Should be every poor country on Earth as well by that metric. It's probably just some measure to prevent opening a flood gate of refugees, coupled getting the GOP their kicks.

Agiel
So why is Venezuela on the list of countries on the travel ban? Seems kind of out of place. I guess NK is as well, doubtful they even have all that many. Suppose Trump isn't big on No Kum-sok, then. Quote “Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.” -Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>> Quote "The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete." -Rod Serling
Namutree
"it's not a political thing" *Yes it is. As surely as burning the flag would be. It is an inherently political statement. "When you refuse to use the word Nazi, but you can call someone who pays their taxes, carries themselves the right way -- in order to play a professional sport, you have to have some sort of discipline --- who is a disciplined individual, you call them 'sons of bitches.' But you can't call a spade a spade." *Yeah, you can't just call people Nazi's at random (or rather, you shouldn't. People actually have been). And no, just because they're white nationalists doesn't mean they're Nazis. National Socialism is a very specific (and very European) branch of white nationalism that most white nationalists don't subscribe to (At least in the US, I don't know enough to say the same about Europe). Also, even if this guy's totally idiotic statement regarding calling people Nazis were true, it doesn't pertain to the issue at hand, since calling people Nazis is a declaration of their political affiliation, and the other is a value judgement. "Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking. I use blue text when I'm being sarcastic. Yes, technically they aren't Nazis, because they don't have a card with their member # in the National Socialist German Workers' Party, so they are neo-Nazis at best, but that's not an exceedingly useful distinction to make outside of a historical discussion. Gromnir
is something a few o' the nfl haters may have lost sight o', but am thinking one o' the unsung heroes in the trump-anthem kerfuffle is the NFL. the anthem protest is Not a First Amendment issue per se. as contract employees o' the nfl, nfl players cannot use nfl games as a venue to make political statements unless the NFL allows such. lester holt showing up to do nbc nightly news in a stylish greenpeace inspired RESIST t-shirt would not be acceptable. ... though we highly recommend the purchase. anybody here would be surprised if nbc prevented mr. holt from doing his nightly news bit while wearing the above t-shirt? maybe vol, but am doubting anybody else would be shocked. first amendment is a prohibition 'gainst Government action. nfl is not a government actor. as an american, your free speech "rights" while at your job is understandably limited. however, the NFL has made a conscious choice and decided anthem protests, while not protected by the Constitution, will be protected by the League. whatever your feelings is 'bout individual team owners and their treatment o' kaepernick, or whatever else you think is a meaningful measure o' nfl integrity, it is the League which has given players license to make visible and highly public protests during games. hate the nfl if you wish, but am thinking a few folks is misunderstanding what is First Amendment rights and what kinda free speech an nfl player is owed at an NFL event. the nfl may be as evil as some o' you believe, but give'em credit where credit is due. the league could object to anthem protests, and is likely they could legal prevent such. however, in their wisdom, the League made the right choice and has allowed and even supported the anthem protests. all too often there is a difference 'tween what is legal and what is right. (am constant making this point to clients and colleagues) the NFL has done the right thing, even if they ain't legal obligated to do so. good on them. HA! Good Fun! Guard Dog
I watched a little bit of the Cowboys @ Cardianls. At least until the rain delay in the Marlins game ended. It occurs to me that politics is a disease this is infecting every apsect of our lives. I enjoy my job for the most part. I still feel like I'm in over my head sometimes but I enjoy it. But politics is literally all they talk about other than f-----g star wars. So work is out. I only joined Facebook to play chess online without paying for it. So I'm not real active on it. But I do keep up with my brother and his family that way so that's good. But everything he posts/shares with me is about politics. The entertainment industry is already completely saturated with it. I watch few movies and fewer TV shows (none at all excepting GoT & Walking Dead) so whatever. Sports and politics have never been strangers in this country. But it has devolved from being an occasional intrusive annoyance that only happens in pre-game show and commentator hubris to actually occurring on the field. Enough already. Can't we have just this one thing? Can't we have one respite from the ever growing social civil war and just f-----g enjoy the only thing we can all still agree is good? Must every goddamned thing that occurs in this life be tainted with the insistence of provoking outrage in half the people? It's bad enough our government is completely out of control. Do we have to talk about them with every breath too? And Mr. Trump? Shut up! Do you think entering the fray is helping? All you did was heave a bucket of gasoline at a fire. Talking about politics is fun, entertaining and can be intellectually stimulating. But for God's sweet sake not everything in this life needs to be politicized. Can't we just enjoy the few things we all love without it? No? I guess I'm not surprised. Bartimaeus
A lot of people seem to have that attitude regarding football/sports. I am not that bothered because I already hate listening to the vast majority of commentators (Al and Chris are good when it's a decent game, and Tony Romo is already surprisingly/refreshingly good...but everyone else can pretty much just screw off) and I hate commercials and I usually mute both (indeed, I sometimes switch channels temporarily for commercials I especially hate and don't want to give any views to - it's stupid and probably pointless, but it feels good), and this whole political business doesn't extend to the game itself - only before and after. Not only that, but I'm just honestly less annoyed by it than the commercials and commentators: it really is not that big of a deal to me. If it makes you feel any better, supposedly NFL ratings are going down because of stuff like this: the networks will most likely eventually catch on and stop giving them coverage...probably. Edited September 26, 2017 by Bartimaeus Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart. In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.
