What You Did Today

Ordered some DVDs; and then paid for my wife's latest furniture purchase at the Gaffney SC Super outlet mall.  (Seems she left her credit cards at home)

Now I'm on my third glass of wine watching the Vikings go postal in Mercia.

Not liking the idea of laminate on the stairs. Laminate can be slippery, a quality you do not want on stairs. Tiles on the stairs will be a bit more expensive, but potentially safer.

Yeah I thought about that too. Change of plans anyway. Still going with ceramic tile downstairs but the stairs and bedroom are getting carpet. I found a place that will do the whole house both carpet and tile for $4.50 per square foot. I figure that is only $900 over my original budget for the floor and all I have to do is give them the keys. Avoiding the back soreness alone is probably worth the $900.

Sounds like a plan. Don't know prices over there, so can't comment on them - it would be too much for the going rate here in Greece.

And you sound like someone who knows to keep an eye on them and check that the carpet on the stairs is securely fastened and won't come off when someone runs down stairs :)

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

By forcing you to pay higher taxes afterwards and completely neglecting to mention the fact that there are Federal programs to help you forgive or lower your premium on Federal student loans. We have enough socialism already, we should be looking for less of it; particularly less of it for corporations and multinationals.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Hah, Anita Sarkeesian is still a thing? Saw an interview in a swedish newspaper she did, could'nt be arsed to read it to the end though.

that's about what I've done so far today, waiting for work to start, way too tired to play anything.

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Kittensitting two kittens on top of my own two kittens and adult cat. In my two-bedroom apartment. I am surrounded by adorable madness.

Update: The smell of cat poo will never leave my house again. Even at three litterboxes cleaned every day, the amount of poop is staggering.

Just got back from Vegas.  Our last day was crazy.  We started out with a morning at the spa, very relaxing.  Then we went to lunch with some friends that we've made in the area.  The husband is a brewer, so he decided we should go around to a few different breweries for the afternoon.  We started in Henderson at a place called Lovelady that was fantastic, then we hit up Tenaya Creek a bit closer to the strip.  We ate dinner at a Thai place in Chinatown, then went back to the hotel and passed out from all the food and drink.  It was a fun adventure and nice to get away from the usual tourist areas.  I was hurting a bit in the morning, but nothing I couldn't shake off with a good morning run on the strip.  :)

Socialism isn't ownership, its right below a timeshare in terms of how close it gets to actual ownership.

It's collective control over production and distribution. You can argue what ownership is till your face turns blue, but if you think "anything the state does" is socialism you're illiterate.

Sweat on the way to the subway. Sweat on the subway. Sweat on the way to work. Sweat again on walk back to the subway. Sweat again on the subway. Sweat on the walk back to my apartment.

I am looking forward to not-Summer in New York City.

I just want it to be 15 degrees out so I can justify playing the remastered Skyrim for 6 hours a day after work.

"Yeah I'd like an appointment with the dentist."

"Ok, can I please get your name?"

*I spell out my clearly-not-german last name for her*

"And your first name?"

"Spencer....like the kids show, 'Hallo, Spencer.'"

*girl immediately starts laughing cause I read her mind and spells it flawlessly*

Of ALL names for a kids show Germany, why that one? It's not even a very common name; look it up and you get Spencer Tracy and that's it. How the HELL did you pick that one? That's like if Russia had a kids show called "Hanging with Laquisha" or some ****. I cannot introduce myself in this country without people immediately making that connection and telling me about how it was their favorite show as a kid, and to this day I'm still unsure of how I feel about being associated with a muppet. (even if he was supposedly a hella cool muppet)

Yup. Is fun on non air conditioned streetcars with people unaware of the cleaning power of soap.

I associate that name with Spenser for Hire - the P.I. show from the 80's with Robert Urich and Avery Brooks.

And that's spelled differently.

when we imagine spencer, we always think o' the one o' those comically english officers from ww2 movies. the guys with the pencil thin mustache. pale to the point o' looking sickly. perhaps a bit mousy but impeccably dressed.  will be the one officer trying to advise against ________ and he ends up being right in spite of the fact everybody ignored him. spencer coggins digglesworth... or somesuch.  always spencer though.

we can actual think o' more than a handful o' spencers beyond tracy.  is a few american football players (living and dead) who is spencers, and we were an acquaintance o' a norcal fed judge by name on spencer.  'course there were the spencer davis group o' early steve winwood fame. don't know spencer davis group? yes you do.

You two do realize that i'm from a Socialist country, right?

Socialism is the state owning the means of production; what this entail can be anything in the private sector from agriculture to recreation. It is state owned and the state reaps the benefits. If you actually believe that in Socialism the state is a collective of the people or that they have the best interests of the people in mind you're sorely mistaken.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*
