Rostere
I don't typically have vivid dreams, but yesterday I woke up very suddenly at about 2100 from one. The first thing I remember is that I see a mountainous landscape next to a large body of water and distantly, two figures moving closer. There are no beaches next to the water, but the mountain and the water meet each other directly (like this). In this mountainous landscape stands a huge, huge cross. The cross casts a black shadow over the landscape. Then, as the two figures walk past the cross and move into this mountainous region a bell (not a church bell, rather a middle-sized brass bell, something more like one of the bigger bells in this clip) tolls once, after which day instantly turns to night, and the cross instead casts a shadow made from light. Then, I see the two figures journeying into this mountainous landscape clearer, and it is one male and one female figure. These are not any specific people, but rather amorphous figures. The female figure is leading the way.Increasingly, it is clear that the mountainous landscapes is a bizarre mass grave, where corpses are fused into the rock. At first, you can just barely see bodies and faces through the smooth and even, slightly transparent surface of the rock, but as the two figures travel further and further, the corpses are fused closer and closer to the surface, eventually with petrified arms protruding, grasping into the air. The two figures follow an increasingly labyrinthine path through this landscape which becomes harder and harder to traverse, until they reach a point where the mountain flattens out into the water. At this point, it becomes clear that the male figure has somehow betrayed the female figure, and as revenge the female figure has led the male figure to this location with the intent that he should die here - the male figure is in fact blind and cannot possibly find his way home alone. The female figure then tries to run away, but is chased by the male figure, who follows her by the sound of her footsteps. He catches her and they are then locked in a fight, both grasping with their hands a staff carried by the female figure on their way there, pushing against each other. Suddenly, the staff breaks, not at the middle point, but in such a way that the male figure is left holding a much longer segment. The male figure then proceeds to bludgeon the female figure to death with several blows. It is at this point that I become aware that I have been in this dream all along, and that I have seen all of this from my (first-person) perspective. The male figure turns to face me, and then slowly and intently walks straight towards me (which is very, very uncanny since he is completely blind) while I am frozen in place. Without saying a word, he strikes me several times with the staff fragment, and my vision darkens. Here, I awake very suddenly with a high pulse and very vivid memories of the entire (?) dream. The mood from the dream wouldn't leave me, it felt like suddenly being snatched out of another world. Just wanted to share this for posteriority in case I'm about to go insane 3 "Well, overkill is my middle name. And my last name. And all of my other names as well!" Gfted1
^See post 226 and onward. My child rearing experience has been mostly pleasant (except she had colic for the first three months). I sometimes wonder if I got lucky due to only having one child, or perhaps girls are easier to raise? Oerwinde
My girl would sneak candy and play with stuff she shouldn't, was especially adept at getting into the cleaners, but the boy is just so destructive. He's smart too, he figured out how to bypass baby gates by 18 months, and is way better at hiding his tracks than his sister. He is also much more independent. She would always want to be with us, ask us for food and drinks, he wants something, he gets it himself. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity. Woldan
Bought a truckload of exotic chili seeds because February is the time to get the plants started. This year I want to ramp up my chili production by at least 400%. I ordered a lot of Habanero Red Savina seeds because they grew like crazy last year and they taste very fruity even though they're rather hot (577.000 Scoville), those are probably my favorite. I also got some seeds of milder chili races that grow in little bushes and produce seeds till late autumn, those can be used in large quantities to spice pizza, pasta etc. The remind me of little Rowan trees, very colorful. And last but not least a ton of seeds of the world record chili ''Trinidad Scorpion'', it's got over 2.500.000 Scoville and is know to be just brutal. Thats the real deal for hot chili meals, goulash etc. Edited February 4, 2016 by Woldan I gazed at the dead, and for one dark moment I saw a banquet. It's a shame, because they're much more consistently spicy (and spicier in general) than jalapenos, but jalapenos taste so much better... Anyone know of any spicier-tasting jalapeno-like peppers? Hurlshort
So to prep for my upcoming Vegas trip, I thought I might try some card counting strategy drills you can find online. Yeah, I might not have the brain for this. Keeping track of the count over multiple hands, decks, and still actually keeping track of basic strategy is not easy. Leferd
Kevin Spacey's "21" and the book it's based on, "Bringing Down the House" serve as pretty good primers if you want to get into the really advanced stuff. Casinos use multiple decks so the card counting strategy is going to be really difficult and cameras and security are trained to profile card counters. Stick to the bare basic tenets: -always assume the next card is a face card/10 -never buy insurance -always split on A,A and 8,8 -double on 11 -the House has the advantage "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle

Bartimaeus
Such a frightening possibility in having children: there's always a chance that there's just something...off with them, and you just can't seem to fix or do anything about it. Can only do your best and hope they get better, and that they eventually turn out alright in the end...sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Best of luck with yours, Oerwinde. (e): This might have already been talked about...but have you considered having them see/work with a child psychologist/therapist? It seems kinda extreme...like I said, sometimes, these things work themselves out...and sometimes they don't. Edited February 5, 2016 by Bartimaeus Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. That's good news, nice one I am a believer in finding the right combination of medication, if required, to address these levels of frustration and general mental anxiety you are experiencing so I hope the positive results continue But I have to be honest your issue I really don't think is the way you deal with your son but rather your sons recalcitrant and uncontrollable behavior. It would be nice if others with kids commented but your son may have something like ADHD which would explain why he is completely undisciplined and doesn't appear to listen to adult authority. I had a similar condition when I was young ....maybe Hurlshot will give his opinion as he works with kids and is very knowledgeable but I don't think your sons behavior is normal at all? Has your son had any therapy to understand why he keeps disrupting your household in the way he does? Oerwinde
He hasn't had any therapy, no. The wife is a behaviourist, but I think him being her kid kinda screws with how she does things. She has a few other mom friends, some of which said they have/are going through something similar with their boys. Seems being incredibly destructive is pretty common in 4 year old boys, and what can be done to mitigate it is incredibly difficult for us. One problem is supervision. He gets up earlier than everyone else, and has half the house destroyed before the wife gets up at 7:30. I work late and struggle to be up in time to get everything done in time to get him to daycare and myself to work. His independence is a problem, when she was his age she would just watch tv in bed with me while I slept, if she got hungry she would wake me up for food. With him, he gets hungry, he goes to get it himself, then stays downstairs and gets into everything. The earrings he did during the half hour or so between when the wife leaves and my alarm goes off. Another is activities. Its winter time in BC, which means rain, rain, and more rain. So playing outside isn't happening. He's better behaved in the summer when we can take him outside and run off some steam. He definitely has a problem with authority. He tries to give me ultimatums, which never works out in his favour. We were also thinking he was feeding off my irritation and rage. Its hard to tell him its wrong to break people's things only for me to fly off the handle and break stuff. He's always had anger issues though. Mine have only been in maybe the last 6 months to a year. Thanks for sharing Conditions like ADHD are not any negative reflection on the parents and really can be treated once diagnosed. But if you feel this type of behavior is not uncommon in kids his age then its probably just a stage But I do think is also possible your wife despite her actual RL experience in dealing with peoples behavior may have a blind spot to your son and that would be perfectly understandable As I mentioned I am interested in what others think who have kids but just keep in the back of your mind you may dealing with something else that your son is grappling with...like some form of hyperactivity "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Blarghagh
I second what Hurl said. My older brother was the exact same way. He tried to set the house on fire several times when he was 5 (don't ask me how, I don't know, I was only 1 at the time) and tried all manners of therapy and meds, none of which worked. After a couple of years, he calmed down and become a gentle ol' lug. I'm always surprised by how quick people on the internet (especially Americans) are to throw mental disorder terms like ADHD or depression around. Just feeling sad or angsty isn't depression, being an introvert does not mean you have an anxiety disorder and a kid acting out doesn't have to mean he's got developmental problems. I blame angry parents - when you've got stressed out people ready to explode in your office, I assume most doctors won't just say "doesn't seem to be anything wrong his brain, he just seems to like acting like a ****head". Probably because the described behaviour really doesn't sound normal to a lot of folks. From all the people I know personally, I never heard such child-stories.
