That sucks. Had you guys been together long?

A little more than 2 and a half years. So, not superlong but I guess long enough to get over the initial honeymoon period and then some. While we've certainly had our fights, we get on really well, which kinda makes it even harder. I'm still entertaining some notions that "maybe it'll work out" but when I try to look at it objectively it really doesn't seem like it will. And getting my head around the fact that we'll probably never see each other again after we move apart makes my mind explode right now.

And I don't like Starcraft or (probably not anyway) Fallout 4 so that won't work, hehe. :p

I know I don't know the details but it kinda sounds like you guys are looking for a reason to break up an otherwise good relationship. Is the "want completely different things in life" a case of one of you wanting to marry and the other is resisting the idea?

Nah, it's not really like that. Marriage is something we've talked about and neither of us is against that.

It's more like one wants to live in a particular place where the other one really doesn't, one wants to treat money in a certain way while the other doesn't, one wants to have the house filled with animals while the other doesn't, one wants a certain type of living while the other one doesn't. The list kinda goes on and in  those aspects it's really like... polar opposites.

I guess it sounds like looking for reasons when you point it out like that but it doesn't really feel like it. It's like the personal chemistry is absolutely great but everything surrounding that is extremely hard. In relationships one has to make compromises of course, and we've already done that in some instances of course, but it's getting to a point where neither of us feel we change ourselves enough regarding these practical things to "accomodate" the others so to speak, if that makes sense.

That really sucks Starwars but maybe this can help to put things into perspective

or at least maybe you can get a chuckle out of it

Today is a weird day for me as it's both a day of celebration (240th Marine Corps birthday) and a day of sadness (14th anniversary of my mom's death)

How do you even turn off a fridge? Mine would have to be wheeled away from the wall and unplugged to turn it off.

And I too feel old and achey from changing my brakes on Saturday. Aging sucks. :(

Has a coldness dial, 0 is off 5 causes ice in liquids and frosts veggies, we keep it on 3, he turns it to 0. This was like the 6th time he's done it but the first we didn't catch it within a couple hours. Took until now to realize that I can pull the dial off.

Ever since the youngin' around here has been walking, we've had to pull the knobs off the front of the stove whenever it's not in use.  His persistence in trying to blow up the house is a little unnerving.

In other news, we're nuts enough after dealing with this one (and assorted failures along the way) to be expecting Youngin' the Sequel next May.

Kids sure are more trouble than they are worth :p

Today is relatively dull day, had to join a Google+ group where our CEO will 'communicate' with us. At least someone's using G+, I guess.

That's because having a child literally brainwashes you into liking your child. Internet people go: Find me scientific evidence of my outrageous claim!

Malc working for Google confirmed because only the Google CEO uses G+. Literally the only person on the internet that does, not even his other employees.

well, congratulations. this is a congratulatory matter, yes? am recollecting more than a few stories o' enoch jr. illness, and is sounding as if a healthy crumbsnatcher is as much a handful as one laid low by communicable disease or adverse condition.

well, at the very least, you has proven your continued virility to your fellow man and to the universe itself.  huzzah.

so, tip back a self congratulatory glass/fifth o' rye... and try to get some sleep while you still can.

HA! Good Fun!

Thanks, guys.

The kiddo had some issues as a newborn (underweight; hypoglycemic) and had a rough time through his first cold season in daycare, but he was pretty blissfully healthy through this past spring and summer.  Coughs and sniffles have made the rounds lately, but nothing serious.  Sick kids are no fun, but they also tend to take long naps, so you get a nice break.

Regarding the in-progress nubbin', we're now seeing some specialists at the super-fancy hospital an hour's drive away who have some further insights on the problems that we've had in prior pregnancies.  13 weeks along and everything is looking good.  Cautious optimism.

Everyone says the 2nd is easier. Everyone is lying. In some ways it is, because all the stuff that scared the crap out of you with the first is no longer scary, but now all those little periods you could escape, like naptimes and such don't exist because the first one has a different schedule.

I had just reached a kind of equilibrium with my first when the 2nd was born and screwed that all up. Been an exhausted wreck of anger and frustration ever since. Then again I'm an introvert and being able to get alone time only at the expense of sleep leaves me incredibly drained.

The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.

I'm not sure that anybody would argue that having 2 small kids is easier than having 1 small kid is.  More that going from 1 kid to 2 kids is a smaller marginal change than was going from 0 kids to 1 kid.

At least, that's what I'll keep telling myself for the next 6 months...

I was an emergency babysitter for my brother-in-law's 3 little tykes (6 months, 2 and 4 respectively) and I wanted to kill myself. Still, I can't wait to ruin my own little person someday. I've heard it's like having a disabled dog that slowly learns how to talk during rehabilitation. Sounds fascinating.

Hah, had to supervise my cousin and...whatever the hell you call your second cousin's kid. Never having kids based on that experience based on my being moments away from choking them to death. Lucky it was back home, so smacking them with a textbook was a-ok. But really, have no patience at all and my mother's quick temper so no kids for their safety's sake

Finally acceded to the CEO's demand and gave a lousy selfie, was tempted to just take some photo of a guy off Google and do it, but figured it'd be better to not be the one that sticks out. Nothing like yelling buzzwords at you to ignite the soul, "Innovate!" "Be passionate!" "Be agile!", etc.

Second cousin once removed.

Hahaha, yeah that "once removed" seems ominous.

As I understand it the children of your cousins are "X cousin once removed"

Grandchildren would be "X cousin twice removed"

Great-grandchildren would be "X cousin three times removed"

Where X stands for First, Second, Third Cousin. Its all a bit confusing.

After all the financial turmoil of the last two months I started to take a real hard look at where I stand for retirement savings. I'm not in bad shape at all as it turns out. I should be pretty well hedged against any market turn downs. I divested all my commodities a long time ago which turned out to be a pretty good move in hindsight. I can't really claim any credit because I did it when I needed cash. But I'm glad it worked out ok.

Plus I took a phone call from someone I told myself I had nothing more to say to. I'm still debating the wisdom of that move. But we'll see what plants sprout from those seeds.

Two minutes silence, that's all we asked of our employees at 11am this morning, we placed posters a week in advance stating this and asked that those not participating leave the office for the duration. We reminded all of the staff at 10am and sounded a whistle for the commencement of the silence, and yet at 11:01 we had a shrieking secretary asking why everybody was ignoring her and nobody was talking, absolutely screeching like a fishwife.

I was of half a mind to fire her on the spot, luckily a fellow partner interceded and stopped me whilst I was recovering from my bout of unsound temperament. I really have to reign in my temper, it's growing worse.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

Oh yeah we have that, doubt anyone here will observe it, several conference calls going on now (it's 2 mins away). Not a big deal really, people don't care about veterans or the dead in WW2 the rest of the year.
