Woke up this morning to find that Warcraft 1&2 have been released on GOG! Warcraft 1 was probably the first ever PC game I played, so I'm super psyched for a walk down memory lane!

The fiscal year of 2018 for CD Red revealed that the net profit from GoG was merely 7,800 dollars. I really do hope DRM-free GoG survives this "knives are out" day and age with Epic steamrolling the gaming portal world.

I'm not sure that Epic is really that much competition for GOG. By that I mean I don't think any of the exclusives that I've heard of were likely to be released on GOG day 1. I could definitely be wrong but 100% of the complaints I've seen are from Steam users.

I'd think that Phoenix Point would be the only one to come to GOG day 1, and since the typical GOG user is already patient it being delayed won't have too much effect. Exodus might have been too if Derp Silver didn't have managerial independence from Nordic, but they do so a release after a year is about the best GOG could expect anyway.

GOG's problem is their basic model- offering actual support and curating the store- is more costly than Steam and older games fundamentally sell fewer copies at a lower price point than newer ones. TWitcher 3 and Gwent getting older doesn't help either, and Thronebreaker was never going to replace them in terms of being a money driver no matter how many hooks they added for standalone Gwent.

The main effect EGS has had directly is that GOG have reduced their cut of sales somewhat, and that must have hurt the bottom line.

That GOG is not popular based on Reddit userbase.  Wouldn't surprise me, never seen a bigger bunch of Steam slaves (and utter ****ing imbeciles)

Gary Grigsby's War in the East/ West remakes as a new release. And the reaction to the pricing is hysterical, in both senses.

Have to admit, I will have a hard time resisting WitE at any price now it's actually been put directly in front of me and I can't hide behind it being relatively hidden over on Matrix. The SPI version was one of the boardgames I always wished I owned, if only to say that I owned it. Along with Campaign for North Africa and its system for tallying Italian pasta reserves and how much water was required for them.

hmm sounds good, i might cave in and use it instead of steam where I currently have my friends list

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

The features look good IMO. We'll see how long will take the beta. But still missing client for Linux :(

Frankly, the recent financial troubles and layoffs at CD Projekt Red and GOG has made me very reluctant to buy anything on GOG.   If GOG goes out of business, everything I own on GOG will be gone as well.  I am gonna keep my purchases at Steam.

Did you give it a go? Is it worth picking up?

For the context I did play Warcraft3 and Starcraft1&2. I have been thinking about picking up Warcraft3, but I am not sure if it still holds any entertainment value.

A big reason for people to buy games on digital platforms like Steam and GOG is so that we can use them as cloud storage for games we own.  They are convenient and do not take up physical space.  Without having to consider physical storage, I have bought over 400 games on GOG.  It would defeat a main purpose of buying games online if I had to download all those 400+ games onto my physical drives to safeguard against GOG going out of business.

I do not want to have to store 400+ games on my hard drives.  Who the hell put 400+ games onto their hard drives?  So am I buy  hard drives to store 400+ games because GOG might go out of business?  Am I suppose to spend money, and hours and hours, to buy blank discs and burn all those 400+ games onto discs?
