Xbox 720 Reveal

Will I be able to watch netflix on it without paying microsoft 10 bucks a month?

Nope and now you have to pay to play used games or play borrowed games, same as if you are licensing the games instead of purchasing them.

Ps: Seriously, it's 10 bucks a month? Can't wait to retcon and win a XboxLive vs PSnetwork argument.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Its 10 bucks a month if you do recurring monthly payments, I think if you buy a year in advance its 60. Its still not worth it for people who don't play multiplayer though. If I could have done $5 monthly payments I would have done it to access Netflix and the cloud saves though. The Wii netflix interface is garbage, and being able to play on my xbox upstairs and downstairs without having to copy my saves to a thumbstick was nice.

I think at this point its obvious that the new gen of consoles won't actually surprise us with anything. For all intents and purposes they're now an above average PC with similar features and a few gimmicks thrown in.

Also, is anyone uncomfortable with the idea of a camera constantly on in the inside of your living room?

:dancing:

I just scanned this thread and some articles, but looks like it's safe to say that I'll be going with PS4.

I get the feeling MS just lost a LOT of their marketshare. And don't realize just how stupid they're being.

Which seems par for the course for them, given Windows 8 and a few other things.

Either they are in denial or it's the same kind of hubris Sony had after "winning" the previous generation...

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

And the "I remember what you did last" is going to lead to some embarrassing moments.

>Hey babe check out my new console!

>TV!

>Game!

>Movie!

OOOOH! AAAAH! AAAAAAAAH!

>OFF OFF!

Of course it could also be used for a horror film.

You're away from home for a week, and you come back, plop yourself into the sofa and the  XBOne mysteriously turns on, the words glowing on the screen:

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST WEEKEND

When I was watching the presentation yesterday and he was saying things like "Xbox watch porn" or "Xbox play video games", a phrase kept swirling in my mind.

Xbox pls go...

I think it is safe to say that I will not be buying one of these contraptions.

PS4 it is.

Jumping from one sinking ship into another. Brilliant thinking, Sir.

PS4 ain't a sinking ship. There will be always people who want to buy a console no matter what and let's also not forget the matter of console exclusives. Wii U and  Xbox One might have a rough time ahead of them though.

I personally prefer PC to everything else, but I don't mind playing a game like Okami on the PS3 either. PC+PS3 is the way to go for me right now.

There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.

Why is the PS4 crowd cheering anyway? Its not like Sony has anything more to show than MS at this point. There's the vague promise of backwards compatibility through streaming, but in all other aspects - its the same story all over again.

Their biggest boast can be that the same games won't look worse on their more expensive machine like they did with the PS3.

As for exclusives, the PS3 exclusives stable is a lot thinner than the PS2's. Even today, if you scan through metacritic, there are precious few good games that are PS3 only.  Of course, the XB360 exclusives were practically non existent or not worth bothering about  so the PS3 wins hands down - but that doesn't necessarily mean the PS4 will have better exclusives.

Finally there's the question about the reason to upgrade. PS3 will still be supported for quite a while like the PS2 was - while the PS4 will need more than a year at best to get going.

Sony has been a sinking ship for over a decade now. And while gamers are gonna be happy about Sony presenting the PS4 as a gamers-first platform, let's remember that PS2-level numbers are going to be a fairy dream for Sony.

Why?

First, Sony is living in a stagnant mentality (like many of their Japanese cousins). They're not a leader anymore when it comes to technology (except professional film cameras maybe), services, infrastructure and even the quality of games. Yes they have more studios, but most of their IPs suck (Killzone, Uncharted etc. I mean c'm on) and they keep losing money due to mismanagement (FFXIII versus, Last Guardian etc).

Second, MS consciencely chose not to aim for the most powerful machine out there. For starters, 8GB GDDR5 RAM cost around ~$145 on the markets (directly from the supplier for mass production), while 8GB DDR3 costs ~25$. Guess who will be able to have better price flexibility? Not to mention the Yen is very weak which in return is going to be bad for their own domestic market.

Third, MS is thinking farther ahead in terms of services and infrastructure (cloud computing could develop into a big thing), and also spend more on R&D than Sony and Google combined.

While this is no guarantee for XB1 to horribly fail, at the very least MS is better bolstered against shocks and also has a more diversified portfolio. If games fail, they always have their TV and interactive TV-stuffy, and vice versa.

Sony only has those games. With the current economy and the low demand, people are definitely going to be more picky. Sony provides more quantity, but that's not what people necessarily want anymore. More more more buy more play more play everything is a game that MS chose not to play any longer.

The PS3 had the really bizarre cell processor which discouraged a lot of developers from putting their games on the system, even if PS3 was the beefiest machine save for memory.

This time around, they're using x86 and embracing Unity tools, so having to learn some completely alien coding tricks won't be a barrier anymore

Sony is back in the black for the first time in ages and the Japanese economy is officially out of recession. Remember they said that about several Eurozone countries and they fell right back in, but the Japanese government seems to be ready to borrow any ammount of money to keep the stimulus going.

The more they borrow, the worse it will get.

That is true but Sony's gaming division is under huge pressure, Sony really needs the PS4 to be profitable
