What are you playing now - the plays the thing

You know in regards to Ubisoft games, everyone was going nuts over Prince of Persia back in the day and having only played the game recently I see the same traits games are accused of today. PoP's gameplay is so simple, combat in particular, I believe an idiot could play it and play it well.

Its one thing to have a good control scheme and fancy animation but quite another to marry that with stupidly simple gameplay. I gave up a few hours in, it was just too boring.

(The same could be said about God of War but at least that game has the visual thrills and inventiveness to keep you going through the whole "clash of the titans" butchering of greek mythology)

Sands of Time was one of the best balances of combat and non-combat (free run sequences). The other major thing is that it made it's characters, particularly the female lead, have some SERIOUS depth to them. Warrior Within had a much more impressive combat system, but wound up with most of it's story being very generic and shallow, and Two Thrones was just... different.

Still playing Torchlight2. My apparently seasonal gaming shift for wanting more in-depth fare hasn't kicked in yet. :cat:

I think they have gotten better over time and DRM has been resolved though? No?

One of the later ones actually had no or disc check only DRM on its retail release. One of the reasons Ubi's DRM policy was so stupid was that it seemed to be almost completely random in type and implementation. Most of their always on games seem to have got offline patches at some point though.

Finally decided to give Game of thrones a try, up to chapter 4, and I'm quite liking the game.

The combat is pretty poor, and it has a really bad camera, but the setting and characters are making up for it. Also had a pretty interesting part of the character creation, you can add traits(good leader etc), however they needed to be balanced with vices(psychopath etc). Unfortunately they don't seem to have an effect besides in combat. Still it was amusing that you could create a fire priest that's afraid of fire.

I wouldn't say it's for everyone, but if you enjoy the books/show, you should enjoy the game.

Took apart my video card cooler so I could install a new, quieter and better performing one. Unfortunately I didn't read the instructions before starting. "Thermal adhesive requires five hours curing time." Nooooo! Scuppered my plans for an entire night of XCOM.

Halo 4 should arrive today. My Zone of the Enders HD, as well, though it's 4 days delayed.

Assassin's Creed III is failing to hold my interest, so I'll probably jump over to Halo 4 after work.

You don't have time for that.

I'll probably spend 7-8 writing. Then 10-12. Which leaves a blank at 5:30-7 and 8-10 for gaming.

Just finished Thief Gold and it's a damn good game. It was impressive then and it's rather impressive today

Why?

Level design. The art of level design without relying on scripted sequences is rather lost on modern games. If it were not, then the final levels of both Thief and Deus Ex wouldn't have surprised me as much as they did.

Would that be the original Zone of the Enders for the PS2 polished up for ps3 or something else?

It's ZOE 1 and 2 for the PS3, yes.

Sadly, ZOE 2 is reported to have FPS drops.

I only played ZoE 2 and while it has fantastic action the story is typical Kojima. Meaning muddled nonsense. I so wish they would let him do the action in someone else's script.

Which version did you get? The Xbox one is supposed to be better than PS3. Still not perfect though.

PS3. Xbox 360 is better on framerate, but doesn't have analog buttons like the game was designed for.

Playing through Sleeping Dogs - Nightmare in North Point. I've put in about 2 1/2 hours so far (I've been doing a bunch of side stuff like hunting down Hell Money shrines and such). It's definitely quite repetitive, but the story is just utterly ridiculous and self-aware enough that it's kept me interested.

Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue.

Made it my goal to burn every book in the library. Even if repetitive, unnecessary travelling, and no reward what so ever but me knowing I torched them all...

I'm only halfway into Halo 4 and feel comfortable making a prediction for 5.

Cortana becomes flesh and blood. That is, after all, the technology the Forerunners were working on, the ability to digitize life and bring it back. She is essentially a digital copy of Halsey. And it seems in line with the transhumanist theme this new trilogy is going for.

That feels weird. Talking about a Halo plot. I never really thought they had plots before. Maybe it's just tickling my transhumanist fancy.
