Cantousent Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 Dew eet! You hear Boone's call. I took Boone often, but I also liked the unarmed specialist girl. The ghoul is pretty good, too. Come to think of it, I liked all the npcs. I've played with all of them. Humanoid Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 It's the guy you always blast away because he comes running at you in prison gang gear. No, it's the guy you always blast away because you took the "Four Eyes" trait, and he's wearing the first damned pair of glasses you've seen on a character who you can get away with murdering. There's a pair of glasses on a table in Doc Mitchell's house. L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
HoonDing Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 why would you even use VATS? D: I played through the OC twice without it, and did fine. well, if you don't count the crazy amount of reloads when the critical doesn't come through Because real-time shooting in Bethbryo is terrible. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

Cantousent Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 I've stumbled along two different dlc transition areas (for lack of a better phrase). I didn't even try the one right near the start area that has a bunch of messages to 'the Courier.' I think I clicked on the door and there was a message I *think* concerning the Lonesome Road dlc. The other area was the Mojave drive-in. I clicked on the satellite, but I was too low leveled to use it. I'm finished with Nipton and I actually found something I hadn't seen in over 200 hours of gameplay last night. I'm going to explore a little tonight and see if I can uncover some other things I either missed or have been put into the game with subsequent dlc/patches. Funy times, though. @Humanoid: Aw, you wouldn't steal from Doc Mitchell would you? :Cant's huge grin icon: Actually, I've always fliched everything of value from the Doc's house, and my first run I fliched every blessed thing I could carry. Money wasn't really a huge deal in the original game, but the dlc seems to ease early game money conservation a real non-issue. I doubt I ever steal from ol' Doc ever again. WDeranged Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Doing all the DLC is actually quite an undertaking, they're so substantial and by the time I'd finished them all I was nearly hitting the level cap, there was also a ton of stuff left to do in the Mojave...an absolute ton.
Lexx Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Damn you steam. Checking game integrity, turned out 1 file needs to be downloaded again... turns out it is the biggest one and now I am sitting here, waiting for the download to finish. Cantousent Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 I'm getting ready to do some of the dlcs. I'm level... ten I think. Anyhow, I'm enjoying my new run quite a bit. It was a little bit tedious at first, but now I'm getting back into the groove. I never did much with Caravan before, but I've found it's a way to make a lot of money. So far, I've gone through Novak and all the associated side quests from there. I did everything in Good Springs and Primm. I've even made it out to start some of the quests from Camp Good Hope or HOpe or whatever it's called. Fun times! Lexx Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Damn, I've installed some of the content restoration mods. One readds all of the NPCs which got deleted through patches because of memory issues and now the powder ganger prison quest is damn hard for me. The NCR soldiers are getting killed very fast and I am not strong enough to kill more powder gangers in less time. Before, the soldiers always stormed in and killed everyone. But now they drop like flies. I think it also has something to do with the fact that some of the enemies have laser and plasma pistols now. I don't think that was the case before. Maybe JESawyer mod added them? No idea. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
NOK222 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Old World Blues is my favorite, the wackyness of the retro era really made me chuckle and i had fun. Ka-ka-ka-ka-Cocaine!

My last playthrough of New Vegas was remarkably stable but I did notice the missing content since my first time, have you noticed any crashing with the restored content?
Lexx Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Nope, no crashing with it yet. The open freeside looks pretty cool. I was scared that I might not like the change, but it does look really good. Not only because it is open now, but because of all the new NPCs added from the restoration mods. There are a lot more thugs now, NCR squatters, children, drug dealer, drunken people, etc. It feels a lot more alive now. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
WDeranged Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I hadn't seen the open Freeside mod but I love the sound of it, my only problem is I'm a bit of a vsync addict, if my game isn't doing 60fps I feel distracted, it's the reason I never used the mod that opened The Strip, the amount of activity in that area is really pushing engine limitations, any fps drops with the freeside mod?
Starwars Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 The unct mods are generally really good and serves to flesh out the game more rather than just add dumb things that don't fit. Freeside especially is a *massive* improvement atmosphere wise. But yes, you will get fps drops and significant stuttering in some areas. And most likely, more crashing- Listen to my home-made recordings (some original songs, some not): http://www.youtube.c...low=grid&view=0
WorstUsernameEver Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I can't play New Vegas without The Strip Open and Freeside Open anymore. I can more or less ignore all the other mods, but not those two. So much better. (Playing Fallout 3 right now, which makes me realize how little there is going on in the single town cells in comparisons to those areas, and why they needed to be gutted.)
WorstUsernameEver Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 What are those "open" mods? They basically turn Freeside and The Strip into open, continuous areas as they were meant to be in the beginning, and also restore a bunch of incidental stuff meant to take place in them. Both areas were obviously meant to be like that, but had been gutted into various minor areas because of memory limitations/performance problems. The Strip Open Freeside Open Most people with a decent rig can install The Strip Open without many problem.. it also doesn't really alter the area dramatically in any way, just restores the Promoters' original behavior (and restore one of the two that was cut). Freeside Open on the other hand restores a bunch of stuff, including a Rotface unmarked quest that was cut, the original introduction for the Van Graffs (we got a shorter, more mysterious version), some pickpocket NPCs, squatters coming and going (you hear about them in the final version, but never really see them) and some other minor stuff. Overall, it just makes the area a lot more lively and interconnected, but at the expense of performance/stability.
Lexx Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Yeah, when I got a pickpocket NPC the first time, I was like NO and shot him into the back with my rifle. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
Cantousent Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Hey, my game keeps crashing when I kill one of the aliens. It's not the alien captain but one of his two minions. I get a crash every time. It's frustrating. AGX-17 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) Hah... we are sooo going to leave this thread open! : Edit to add: Any hints for somebody about to embark in Lonesome Road. Do I keep any of my gear, companions? Anything worth stocking up on before going there? If you like a challenge, toss everything and rely only on what you find on.... THE LONESOME ROAD. Really, the various forms of Riot Gear are better than any non-powered armor you can get anywhere else in the game. I once ran the whole thing naked starting about lv3, right out of Goodsprings/Primm, it was the most fun I had in NV from a pure gameplay perspective as someone raised on FPS'. Tragically, the main game and other DLCs were comically easy as a result. But it taught me that the H&H Tools Nail Gun and the flare gun are miraculous tools woefully overshadowed by unique anti-materiel plasma gatling bluhbluhbuh guns. RPing was kind of tough with skills too low to meet most checks. Yeah, when I got a pickpocket NPC the first time, I was like NO and shot him into the back with my rifle. I actually had a lot of problems with getting pickpocketed by nonexistant pickpockets. First I'd get the lost caps notification and start killing everyone in a tan hoodie I could find, but none had 100 caps on them, so I finally just started using console commands to re-add the 100 caps. I could just about hold my ground in the old Unreal Tournament, but I'm no Gorth the Slaughterer when it comes to FPS and twitch games, I'll probably bring a gun or two “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Cantousent Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 (edited) Yeah, but the important thing is, why is my damned game crashing nowadays on these aliens? Grrrr. I'm going to sneak around them and investigate the site. EDIT: A HA! I managed to get it done without a crash. Whew. Gorth Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Hmm, I remember those aliens, but then I play with the wild wasteland trait (or whatever that one is called) “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
Lexx Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Never seen any aliens in the game. Never touched wild wasteland trait and I most likely never will. I'm happy that this stuff is optional, as I really don't like such lulzy stuff in my Fallout. I've also installed the Strip Open mod now. It is really great- was highly sceptical first and I always fear that the savegame could break through such mods, etc. (especially as I normally spend a lot time on a playthrough and having it getting destroyed from a mod sucks), but it works without problems and looks fancy. If you don't have WW enabled, at the "crash" location (towards the western end of northern border of the explorable Mojave map), you instead find a campsite with some well-equipped raiders, one of whom is holding the unique variant of a gauss rifle. Which is a nice consolation for not getting the Alien Blaster. (Personally, I think it's more useful, as it's a way to get a Gauss Rifle rather early in the game, and it doesn't have the finite-ammo issuse that the AB does.)
