The hype train is pulling into the station.

 

 

It's a bit annoying that Pete Hines is doing the interview, and not Rorie or Sawyer.

 

the further removed the Betehsda machine is from NV, the better I''ll feel.

 

Hopefully, Hines will step out of the way after the initial PR wave lets loose.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Hopefully they keep Pete Hines as far away from the whole project as possible. Don't really trust anything that guy says and most of the time his interviews just make me cringe.

Don't think he has that much input in Beth's own projects, he's a PR guy and, well, what he does works well in today's industry.

Your kidding aren't you? If Beth does one thing right, it's promote their AAA games. Yes they overhype, but that's what they're meant to do.

 

 

Sure, I don't mind seeing Bethie's publishing weight behind an Obsidian project. That's a win win for everyone.

 

I would just prefer to see the Obsidian developers be the ones to talk about their game, not Pete Hines. Rorie is a PR guy among other things.

Again, hopefully, once the initial PR surge is underway, most of the interviews and stuff will be with Obsidian developers not Bethie's pr staff.

Honestly, Pete Hines really bugs me. He's so completely PR-guy that it's hard to trust what he says at all. What game does he think have the best story-- oblivion. What does he think the best fps of all time is-- terminator. Come on.

 

I'd much rather hear from a director or producer than some mouthpiece anyway

Another funny thing I noticed on an interview with both him and Todd Howard, he thinks he's in the loop. Pete would say something about some random feature that he thought was in the game, however whatever it was had been scrapped months before, and Todd would have to correct him in front of the press. I can't help but imagine Todd smuggly muttering just out of mic range, "What, you didn't get that memo?".

I've got nothing personal aginst either one; I just don't want to hear either one of them talk about a game that they're not making, and hopefuly aren't even involved with.

 

If they want to talk about the Fallout IP on a general level or Fallout 4, hey fine no problem. But let's have the people and company that are making the game actually be the ones to talk about the game.

I'd like FO:NV to be a fun game and a critical and financial success. My guess would be that they think that talking to Pete will do more to assure folks who bought and liked FO 3 that they should be excited about this game, too, than would talking to someone from Obsidian. I realize that folks who were fans of the original Fallouts and/or Obsidian would rather hear from them and that the actual devs would likely have more interesting things to say, but there's plenty of time to hear those things, and I think Obsidian needs a blockbuster a lot more than they need initial "credit."

 

And the article including FO:NV in the top ten games in 2010 in the last issue of PC Gamer gaved very nice credit, explaining why they were excited about the game's pedigree. :lol:

Agreed. I don't care if the entire army of Beth PR pimps whore out F:NV for the rest of the year. I'm absolutely sure that the game will rock and I really want it to be a huge success for OSI. They deserve it.

MOTS of Fallout 3 gameplay does not rock.

 

We still have no indication of how much freedom Obsidian has in this project to go the way they want to go.

Just take a look at KotOR and KotOR 2, they were not dramatically different. Obsidian did some neat stuff with the sequel, but don't expect an entirely different game.

How did you come to that conclusion? I personally was driven near madness because of the really low quality characters/dialog and quests in FO3. Otherwise it had all the potential to be great in my opinion.

 

Obsidian is better in the writing department even if their writers would be drunk as monkeys while working. So if they get to do their thing, FO-NV can be really, really good game.

It depends. To me, that is worst case scenario. It is possible. Fallout NV may be nothing more than FO3 set in the Vegas wasteland instead of the DC wasteland with all gameplay elements and approaches being exactly the same.

 

My hope however is that the game will be more story/quest focused, less combat intensive, with skills changed, removed, redone, new gameplay elements added, others removed, VATS overhauled or deleted (not likely!). It could be, crossing fingers, a very different game,

 

Its why I am so curious to hear more info on the game. ATM, we know pretty much nothing.

Hurls: Beth's Post-Apocalyptic Oblivion mod was nice. I just wish it had fixed some of the problems like ape-physics, skating movement, dodgy close quarters combat. Also those bugs from Oblivion's unofficial combat overhaul mod were still there.

While there, I would be happy if the game had a complete story instead of bits and pieces that are scattered around unconnected.

 

 

Sandbox/Exploration games are generally nice to play. I just want some substance and polish on top of the basics. Is it really that much to ask?

I didn't hate KOTOR, but I thought it was very average and forgivable. KOTOR 2 I thought was great.

 

Good story/characters/dialogs go a VERY long way in my book.
