What you did today

I was hanging out with my parents, arrived on friday, visited family (it was a reunion thing) then they all left saturday. We saw Ka friday with the family, then yesterday saw blue man group (which is REALLY cool!). Today I spent the day with my dad in the Monte Carlo reading because we decided it wasn't worth trying to do anything (shows don't start until later and I will NEVER gamble), then went to the airport.

...

Honestly, I like NY better than Vegas.

New York is quite over-rated. However, it really is a monumentally important city. I've always been partial to the desert, but that's because I was born there, I guess. I tend to go to Henderson or Vegas to visit various family. I'm not much for the strip and I gamble very rarely. I don't have any problem with it in principle. I just don't want to risk my money unless I know I'm going to get it back. Since that defies the definition of risk, I simply don't gamble. When I used to drink a lot more, I would gamble and get free drinks. Most of the time, the gambling covered my drinks and occassionaly I'd end up ahead to boot.

I have a love hate relationship with Vegas. Grew up here and have always hated it becuase its so hot and I got to experience the greatness of new jersey for two weeks of many years as a child but ever since going to Miami I have a new found respect for it. Still hate the heat but I belong in Greenland or Alaska.

There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

New York is overrated, but it's less overrated than Vegas IMHO. Admittedly my experience was limited with Vegas, but the strip feels like it's disneyland without the attraction of friendly people, and more expensive. New York at least has REALLY good shows that are fairly cheap at Broadway, and it's reasonably priced for most things (meaning, it's not gonna be 10 bucks for a sandwich) because most of the locations that are used for entertainment are also part of the residents daily lives.

I donno, Vegas didn't live up to it's reputation to me. New York I've never had a reputation to look at because I've been visiting that city since I was 6.

Yeah, but that's just a reasonable difference between folks who've lived their lives in different places. You're more used to and partial to New York and I'm more partial to Las Vegas. Both are probably over-rated. For example, Las Vegas is a real playground for some folks. Now, to be honest, if you don't drink, smoke, gamble or carry out some sort of excessive sort of behavior, I think the typical out of towner experience in Las Vegas is not for you. However, I know a lot of folks who just LOVE Vegas. I'm not an out of towner, though. I mean, I no longer live there, but I'm essentially a local. Yeah, I go to the strip from time to time because some of the buffets are awesome. I've rarely gone to shows in Vegas. I never go just to gamble, but then again I rarely give a damn about the typical sorts of things that people want to see when they go to Vegas. The idea that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas doesn't appeal to me since it's not true for me in the first place and it wouldn't matter if it were true because I don't want to do stupid crap that the folks in Vegas remember.

New York, for me, is crowded, difficult to navigate, and not very friendly. Of course, New York has gotten a friendlier reputation over the past several years and they seem to have gotten a handle on the crime, so that could be different. Both cities have strengths and weaknesses, but I would suggest that finding good lodgings with access to a lot of unique shows is cheaper and easier in Las Vegas than New York, but I have to admit that the price for food has also gone up. Used to be you were sure to find the best prices for steak dinners and the like on the strip, but the quality of the food has increased significantly and the price for it has kept pace or increased faster. Still, Las Vegas is what it is. For me, Las Vegas is family and friends. ...And what I love is the outlying area at any rate. I love Red Rock, Lake Mead, Valley of Fire, and the desert. God, I hate the damned heat, but I love the desert. I love it enough to grill for hours out in Valley of Fire. Don't know why it's that way, but it is.

There are a lot of raccoons around here that roam around looking for dog food dishes and gardens to raid, I suppose - tho they've never even tried to touch our garbage cans. They make loud fence-climbing noises by the windows every night and a couple nights ago I finally went outside...and even followed a mama and her 4 younglings down the street where they hid from me via a sewer drain entrance.

Tonight I left a big dish of peanuts as a lure and another one showed up to eat them. The peanuts were the prize for it tolerating my camera flash going off constantly, for 10-15 minutes. :D

Who needs to go out to see the common wildlife? It comes to me. Hahaha

we get bears and mountain lions roaming around depending upon where you live. i regularly had half a dozen deer outside my office window at my last job, too. my buddy has pics of a mother black bear and her cub destroying the little lights along his driveway. they took the pics from the garage. personally, i would have been in the attic or somewhere similar the bear could not get to. we went camping a few weeks ago and the night before we got there a bear had broken into someone's car. yeah, broke the window to get in.

though we don't have any around here, grizzly bears will actually tear your car door off.

Today I went to the park, and, there was a UFO, and it fell on top of an old lady, and....she blew up, and I laughed!

do they have rides in the fantasy world you live in?

Hey, it was a joke, something did fall on an old lady that day, but it wasn't a UFO, it happened to be a small tree branch, off of a medium sized tree.

So recently I've been having considerable concerns over becoming an accountant and I think I want to become a nurse instead. I know it's a radical shift but the career sounds very appealing in contrast. The unfortunate thing is the majority of my credits won't transfer over and I'd essentially be a begining sophomore again. There is some consolation at least that if I get my bachelors I can always come back but I'd only have to do 2 years of schooling.

It's truly infuriating how the world works. They need better career counseling throughout middle and high school because this crap where you essentially pick the rest of the life with only a vague and highly skewed perspective is bs. And of course it's during a time and age when you have no choice but to be an idiot. What the hell? I'm angry.

Yes :(

Started the seasonal chemical warfare against all things green in my garden. Damn rain, makes stuff grow. Drought makes for less work.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to give it some serious thought, medical staff are in high demand these days.

It's one of lifes great ironies that you're supposed to make the most important decisions for your future, at the age when your stupidity levels are going through the roof. And career counseling is just idiotic, its completely impossible to try and guess what kind of jobs will be readily available 1-2 years from now, to even pretend that it can be done is silly. When I was about to go to uni, they said 'become a teacher'. It only took a year and there was a huge surplus of newly examinated teachers. Rubbish.

..but the decision is simple, the world needs alot more nurses than it does accountants.

Whaaaaaa? Nurse? I suppose if you like unbelievably long hours and piss poor pay thats a good choice. Of course you may truly enjoy helping people so thats kinda a reward in itself, if your a chump. While everyone else will fill you with altruistic crap, let me break it down for you. You will be doing your career for (presumably) the next 40+ years and they all suck. All of them. Unless your in the porn industry. So, choose a career that has the highest pay scale for your mental ability as money is what makes the world go round.

Perhaps in your region but here my mom's friend works 3 days a week and makes over 70k a year. My friends brother has been working for probably a year and a half and he too works 3 days a week and makes over 50k. Comparing pay scales, yeah I can make substantially more money in accounting but I'd also have to have a master's degree and CPA since most (professional) accountants tend to go into public accounting (auditing) which requires both. And you want to talk about unbelievably long hours, all they do is long hours in those firms. 60-70 hour weeks and coming in on the weekends is like the norm during tax season. Of course most people only stay 2 or so years before they move into something a bit more stable.

And this has nothing to do with helping people either. It's just a viable way to make a good living and something I think I would be good at and possibly even enjoy, as opposed to accounting which I'm not sure I have the mind for. But whatever, everything tends to work out in the end for me and if it doesn't well I can always just scrape by until I decide to end it all or win the lottery or get rear ended and become a quadriplegic and sue the insurance company for an insane amount of money so that I never have to work again and of course video games will have advanced far enough by this time that I wouldn't have to use my gnarled and lifeless hands to play but with my mind and all will be well in the world and I will laugh maniacally at the fates until I crap myself and stroke out to death. It'll be amazing.

Edit: @gifted well they do work 12 hour shifts and some of that is supplemented with over time or on call in which can really add up.

The nurses that I know either work 5 8 hour shifts or 3 12 hours shifts a week depending on their schedule and work environment. 70k is a bit on the high side but I guess it all depends where you are. Is being a nurse something that you really want to do or is it the thought of making good money for only 3 days of work a week that attracts you? If it's just the money and you don't mind staying in school then be a surgeon, that's what my nurse friends tell me is the best pay for the least work.

Just came to the unfortunate conclusion that my AC is broken. Turns out after close to twenty years worth of being used as a fire hydrant by five dogs, started to eat away at the metals (don't know the exact chemistry in this occurrence.)

So far it's not so bad today but I can only hope the humidity doesn't pick up later in the week while we search out a contractor to replace it.

Well, post the damned pictures already, LC!

I figured it'd just be a dull 10 millionth photo series of backyard raccoons, but ok, here's a small collage of some of them.

And here is a picture of a part of Oracle's park-like walkways/areas that surround their offices. Seriously luxurious, ponds, paths, huge grass fields/trees and a gazillion Canadian geese. Makes a great place for an afternoon walk during warm days. It's right up against a local marsh reserve/bay inlet park, too, making it feel kind of like all one place.

I bought a Gibson Les Paul. Studio, on a 6-month payment deal, gold/black. Just could not afford a Standard, and a Fender strat just doesn't stand up to this glorious thing.

Now as long as I don't get fired anytime soon...

hahaha Jerkface! But I agree, upload some tunes, Tig.

And I liked seeing the cute little bugger, LC. The geese were nice, but I know how mean geese are in real life. Keep them in photos!
