Walsingham Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Waking Life Big thanks go out to Istima Loke for pointing me to this movie. Dreaming is a phenomenon I've been fascinated with for as long as I can remember. Over the past few years, during many a stoned head trip, I've developed my own theories about the relation of the mental world to the physical world. I was amazed at how this one film managed to capture all these things I had already come up with myself. Concepts such as the collective memory and the way afterlife was handled, were presented exactly the way I had imagined them way before even knowing about this movie. So while it didn't really offer anything new to me, it was still way cool to see I'm definitely not the only one with this line of thinking. On a sidenote, does anyone know what it takes to study dreams professionally? I imagine it requires some serious biology and psychology knowledge? Sidenote: Dreaming is simly a phenomena. You can probably attack it any way you want. But personally I'd suggest you do so from a scientific basis. I don't know what your background is, but it may need specialising or beefing up. If you are properly interested, go to your loacl library and find some relevant active authors, track them down, and call 'em up for advice. Never underestimate the power of being REALLY interested in a person's vocation. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Kelverin Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 (edited) Little Children (2006) - Decent flick, won't appeal to everyone especially if you consider the subject matter. The voice over might be clever, but to me it just gets annoying and pulls you away from the story instead of drawing you in. Jackie Earle Haley as a registered sex offender is brilliant in his portrayal, and long way away from Kelly Leak in the Bad News Bears. Lare Kikkeli Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Can't remember if I posted this already... Chocolate. Best martial arts flick in recent memory. If you're a fan of martial arts, do yourself a favour and watch this. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183252/
Hurlshort Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Tropic Thunder - It was a lot of fun. It was great to see a few big name actors having a blast in the movie. Downy Jr. was insanely good.
Kor Qel Droma Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Invasion. Daniel Craig is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. I've never been a fan of the Bond films, yet I find Casino Royal a brilliant film. Invasion was good. Seems like a decent reworking of the old 'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers' story. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
Pope Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 The Ninth Gate What a waste of my time. And I'm a big Depp fan but even he couldn't save this crap.
Pope Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Ed Wood Hadn't seen this gem yet. Burton's best film imo, and an awesome performance by Depp. Fallout fans should definitely check this movie, it has pipboy style all over it. "Pull the strings! Pull the strings!"
Draken Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I've never been a fan of the Bond films, dude....what? i also saw Tropic Thunder recently. as said, it was very fun. i'm always hesitant when Ben Stiller is involved, but Downey Jr. was enough to intrigue me, and JB sealed the deal. the sountrack was sweet, the cursing and gore were in excess, and it had Nick Nolte. what's not to like? Seriously, only like, three people can touch my body
Kor Qel Droma Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I've never been a fan of the Bond films, dude....what? It's true, I've always hated most Bond movies. Sure, the women were hot (well, except Grace Jones), but I always found them quite silly. CR was pretty much the first film in the series I've seen from start to finish. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
theslug Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I've disliked all the bond films as well, save the last one with the new bond but it was still cheesy and altogether lame. Bourne is so much better in the spy/action genre becuase it doesn't involve end of the world scenarios (which are almost always retarded no matter the universe or story), he doesn't use fantastically dumb gadgets, and he also doesn't rely on shallow man children irking to see some mildly famous hot girl get in bed with Bond. Collectively the Bond series is ridiculous and in my opinion trash. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.
Dark_Raven Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 The Day After Tomorrow Awesome movie. Mankind will eventually submit to the will of Mother Nature. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Awesome disaster movie, but face it, after the world froze it just got plain old boring. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Gorgon Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 The Scorpion King 2#. Wow, that was really horrible, but I guess I knew that going in. Sometimes horrible movies turn out hilarious, like Anaconda, as a forinstance. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
Jediphile Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 The Scorpion King 2#. Wow, that was really horrible, but I guess I knew that going in. Hurlshort Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Doesn't the Scorpion King turn into a white guy for the sequel? How'd that happen?
Gfted1 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 (edited) Didnt the first Scorpion King feature The Rock? He's white as far as I know. EDIT: Looked him up on imdb.com and it states his race as: Is of African-Canadian and Samoan descent. Edited August 25, 2008 by Gfted1 "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

Deadly_Nightshade Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 The Orphanage (also known as El Orfanato) - good movie, I'm re-watching it via Netflix's "watch instantly" feature. "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot
WITHTEETH Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Star Wars Clone wars the cartoon. I dont think it should have been on the big screen. It was like an extended saturday monrning cartoon. Boh. Pope Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 (edited) I saw Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas again. Sober this time. Last time I saw it was on shrooms. Was an interesting experience but didn't follow the plot at all (not that there is any). I love that film. If there was one dude I'd ever want to be reincarnated in, it'd be Depp. Such a charisma.
