Sand
With luck the fires won't come your way, Jags. Has the government, state or federal, done anything to control these fires? Musopticon?
It seems pretty harsh in there. Sand
It doesn't seem enough since the fires are still raging. Tale
Charisma + 5? Pfft, I crafted a + 8 in the OC. As for the fires, I have a friend out there. And by friend, I mean someone I hung out with twice a few years back but still have on my AIM list even though I never talk with her or even use AIM. I hope the winds die down. Though that doesn't seem like it's going to happen soon. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Guard Dog
Like Tale said, the wind is the killer out there. It's spreading the fire faster than it can be controlled and hampering air dops at the same time. Talk about a two edge sword. Firefighters from six states plus Navy and Marine Corps assets are hitting it around the clock. I just saw an article on cnn.com about a family in a shelter that saw their house burning on TV. I can not even imagine that. Not for nothing but I'd bet a thousand dollars California's law against cutting fire breaks in public land gets changed after this. All of the sudden hurricanes don't seem that bad. Azure79
I've driven along the coastal highway before and stopped by a place called Neptune's Net for some seafood. Beautiful place and good food. I really hope they can get this controlled soon though its impossible to control the wind, which seems like the main catalyst for the widespread fires. Kelverin
Nothing like this has ever happened to California; the fires from 4 years ago do not even come close to this disaster. Joseph Bulock
Obsidian is totally safe, and so far, all of us have been lucky enough to avoid fire damage to houses and what not, though a number of us could see fire from out bedroom windows. San Diego has been the worst hit so far. They had the bad luck of having the last fires to start, so while the first couple (sadly in Malibu) got lots of support, San Diego fire fighters have been on their own, and they're battling the two largest fires at the moment. The winds have also slowed the ability to get tankers up in the air and dumping water and retardant chemicals. Federal support was a little slow, but not nearly as bad as other disaster support recently. Support from other states is supposed to start arriving today as well, which is a bit disappointing as well, but better late than never. My blood! Alvin Nelson
The winds are said to die down by the end of today, so that should help, but yeah, the San Diego fires are really bad... Gfted1
SAN DIEGO (AP) - The devastating wildfires in Southern California have caused at least $1 billion in damage in San Diego County alone, officials said Wednesday, as easing wind gave firefighters hope that they could begin to gain ground against the flames. The fires, in their fourth day, had destroyed 1,500 homes and caused at least a half-million people to flee - the largest evacuation in state history. At least 1,200 of the damaged homes were in San Diego County, and officials believe that number will rise. "Clearly, this is going to be a $1 billion or more disaster," Ron Lane, San Diego County's director of emergency services, told reporters during a news conference. How the hell do they come up with 1 BILLION dollars worth of damages? Every single home would have to average $666,666 in value. While I know San Diego is expensive I seriously doubt that number. Because it's not confined only to homes. Businesses, property (vehicles and non-developed land included), state property. And I think in their estimates of damages they're including costs for combating the blazes. Edited October 24, 2007 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
