Idaho "family values" Senator Larry Craig is a gaylord

Pop

Ultraconservative Senator Craig has been quite vocal about those dastardly gays. But he was recently caught in an airport bathroom attempting to pitch a tent on the isle of man, by soliciting a policeman.

Around noon on June 11, Sgt. Dave Karsnia entered a men's room stall at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport and sat on a toilet. That wouldn't ordinarily be news, but in this instance Karsnia's presence was not related

Always good to see moral crusaders exposed when they deserve it. Less pleased to see homosexuality viewed as the great issue. There are senators colluding in billions of dollars of corruption, but the press fobs us off with this sort of nonsense.

Why does it seem like this kind of thing happens all the time? I bet it's that no-good media.

because all politicians throw rocks while living in glass houses. the guy's a conservative, so he has to uphold a certain public image. that his personal life does not live up to that image is immaterial since he still needs "family values" voters to like him. you can find many similar examples across all public political views. i think we as a society have decided that the party line must be largely upheld, regardless of which line it is, and any deviation from that line automatically disqualifies the candidate. perhaps our views are warped by incessant media hype, but ultimately, it is our choice. too bad, yet another uncovered hypocrite.

I'd say this was a nine out of ten. Maybe the best documentary I've ever seen

And I'd say this was the wrong thread.

Taking down a hypocrite is always fun, and I'm no fan of the intolerant policies of politicians like Sen. Craig, but does anybody else think that it's kind of odd that the policeman was sitting in a stall in a public john, making eye contact with a guy looking into his stall for 2 whole minutes (well past the point when any normal person would've told him to back the hell off), positively responding to "signals" and then arresting the guy for soliciting sex? Who was soliciting who here? Where's the evidence that Sen. Craig actually intended to have sex right there in that bathroom? Isn't is possible that the next words out of his mouth would've been "I've got a room in the airport hotel-- meet me there in half an hour"? Getting a "guilty" plea out of such limited evidence smacks of coercion. ("Plea to the lesser offense, and we won't go public with the story!")

I can understand the cops wanting to prevent the airport men's room from becoming an anonymous-sex mecca, but there are other ways doing so that don't involve such sleazy police behavior and questionable standards of guilt.

I don't have the link but I read on CNN.com while he was being arrested he pulled his senate ID and told the cops "What do you think of that?" I guess he thought that would get him out of it. That really galls me. As if elected office came with a "get-out-of-jail-free card".

And you guys wonder why I'm in favor of term limits.

One cannot deny one's sexuality no matter how much one tries. In the end, instinct will win. I do seriously feel sorry for the guy.

Mike Rogers, a gay activist who's outed a number of homophobes, caught onto Craig's habit of meeting guys in public bathrooms (there's a term for this, but I can't recall it atm) from people Craig rendezvoused with. Apparently the evidence was credible enough for the cops to get involved. Had Craig been more careful and hired escorts or such and brought them to private places, none of this probably would have happened.

Agreed, Pop, but that wouldn't solve anything. In this country people need to learn to be comfortable who they are and as a species we have a need to express ourselves, our true selves, in some manner. The more repressed our true selves are the more it will fight to express itself. This ultra conservative senator has been repressing an aspect of himself for so long that it needed to be expressed like this. It was a driven and unbeatable urge of his Id.

The same thing happen to that conservative Christian televangelist/preacher a while back. In the US we are so threatened by our own sexuality it is just sad. In many ways the Euros are more culturally advanced than us in this regard. For example if it was a French president who had an affair with an intern and lied about it no one would think twice, but if a US President does this we get an impeachment trial.

I just hope that in time more politicians will come out. We have had a rash of them here in the UK, and when a whole bunch break cover at once eventually we had to stop giggling like panicky public schoolboys and accept it.

As for solicitation, vice crimes are always difficult, but I think after the highly stylised manoeuvring it was pretty clear. For record I see no reason why persosn of any sexuality should not engage in consensual behaviour of any kind. What I object to is them using a public convenience for that purpose. You don't find people trying to play chess in public toilets why should you expect them to do anything else there? In parts of London, Brighton, and other major cities you simply can't use a urinal for persons propositioning you. I don't mind telling you it upsets one's aim, and leads to all kinds of mess! :)

I could not care less what his sexual preference is Mkreku. What really galls me is that he tried to use his status as a senator to bully his way out of trouble.

Thinking about US politics is really discouraging right now. I can't vote for Democrats because they are socialists and they are the opposite of every value this country was founded on. I can't vote for Republicans because they are corruptred down to their very core. The Libertarians cannot mount an effective campaign because they can't get past the whole drug thing. The Greens are communists. No one has ever heard of the Constitution party. The Reform party died as soon as it started. No matter where you turn you are screwed. That is why we end up voting for the candidates who scare us the least.

I guess I'll never fathom "omg socialists/communists" outright disgust many of you americans seem to have. There's no ****ing way Democrats are socialists. Unless The-Everything-Is-Up-To-You-And-If-You-Are-Poor-It-Is-Your-Own-Fault-And-In-God-We-Trust USA has its own meanings for words like socialists.

How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them.
