I've found these images and kept them for reference, but it's been a long time since I've stored them and as such I can't remember the sources. Feel free to post some of yours, if you have any. Aram Posted April 19, 2007 Share Posted April 19, 2007 Well, I wrapped that one up pretty quickly. The Sherlock Holmes aspect of the story was handled pretty well. At several times, you really do investigate and gather clues like Sherlock would, and the interaction between him and Watson worked well. Sherlock came off as a kind of a ****, though. The Cthulhu aspect of the game was not quite so good. There isn't actually anything supernatural in the game. There's a lot of creepy moments, a decent amount of gore at times, and a stealth mission in an insane asylumn, but in the way of actual mythos content, we only get references and people talking about it. Sherlock finds several Cthulhu statues, elder signs, some insane cultists, and goes temporarily insane after reading the Necronomicon, but that's it. You don't get to see Cthulhu or even so much as a shoggoth. The puzzles were decent, and the graphics weren't bad. You walk around a rather bland environment in 1st person shooter mode only there's no shooting, clicking on hotspots with a hand that appears if you're looking at one. Watson has a really awkward way of following you around (you'll understand if you play it). There's also a lot of tedium caused by the fact that you often can't do things or pick things up unless you've done something else first--a lot of items, for example, you can find and know that you'll eventually need, but you can't get them until you actually need them, so you basically backtrack constantly back to places you've already been to get things you could have easily gotten before. That was my biggest annoyance. As an adventure game, to be honest, it was pretty mediocre compared to the real classics, but if you're jonesing for an adventure game, you'll probably like it. I was under the impression that all the big creatures (Dagon, Cthulu, etc.) were asleep only to wake up whenever the world was to end. Seemed like in all the books I read (there weren't many, admittedly) it was the minions of the Great Old Ones that did all the killing and the insanifying. A Shoggoth, maybe, but not Cthulu or Yog-Sothoth, or the big guns. Still, it's weird that there's no actual supernatural **** in the game. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality! (Actually it scored 8.3, but if you factor in the obligatory -1 for being an adventure game...) AdventureGamers were much less impressed, though apparently it is very creepy. Surprise, he does, and I couldn't figure out any way to fail so I'd get to see him. But it's not that there's no Elder Gods in the game, or even no minions. There's just no real proof that anything supernatural is really taking place. Watson has some strange dreams and Sherlock reacts strangely to reading the Necronomicon, but that's pretty much it. It's implied that there's a hunter in the game that killed what may have been a Deep One, but you only see a painting of it, not the beast itself or even the remains of one. The most dangerous thing you face is a crazed negro (lol the game says it not me), or a cultist with a gun. Tell me one Lovecraft story set in the mythos, where some kind of supernatural mythos creature wasn't even involved. By the end of the game, the two Limeys are left not even knowing if it was all a farce. "Gee, do you think any of it was real, Holmes?" "Who knows, Watson. Now go get in the hot tub." Guess I'll just have to make due with the Ghostbusters vs. Cthulhu.
