NWN2: Discussion

Okay, so the games I had in the 80s did come with maps, maybe because I tended to play CRPGs more than anything else. (all Ultimas except the UO crap, all Bards Tales, etc.) I just got used to receiving a map along with the manual(s). Sometimes it was cloth, sometimes glossy paper. BG1 and BG2 came with maps, and so did the IWD series (if I recall correctly.)

I get annoyed about Khralvar in the OC. Every time that guy shows up to tell me something, someone rudely interrupts him. This happens even after I'm the Knight Captain. Apparently it's okay to ignore my character's authority whenever Khralvar is around. Sure it's probably an in-house gag, but I don't think it's funny.

Edit: not that I need a map, but it's a nice touch.

" Non linear plot,"

this is a fiction.  there has never really been a non-linear plot written by a human being in the history of forever, but we know what you mean.

Actually, Michael Moorcok experimented with non-linear fiction in the 60s I think. I've read some of it and it's incomprehensible mess. Masterfully written, but still a mess. So I agree with the notion that no one in their right mind wants an actual non-linear plot in a game.

How much extra happiness would I get if I found a copy of the limited edition somewheres?  I don't mind paying the extra, but I don't care about the nicknacks in the least.  How many goodies would I find ingame?

Basically, you get two additional feats. Either Blessing of Waukeen or Merchant's Friend depending on what edition. However, both feats are in the regular version of the game as well and can thus be given to any character with the console.

Not having a sound track was a rip off. A lot of the other collectors editions of games have sound tracks.

IWD's soundtrack rules. Love the music.

Not really needed. The BMUs can be converted to MP3 with a utility at NWVault in which point you can burn onto a CD, either with standard audio files or as MP3.

Bah I'm not going to waste my time doing that when it should have came on a CD.

You mean you're going to sit here and whine instead of doing a simple conversion?

I mean, more power to you, but you still don't have the soundtrack for all your efforts. :p

Personally, I think there's a lot to be said for complaining. Also, I would rather have had a CD with the soundtrak. Sure, I can convert it, but I'm lazy. See? I pay for convenience.

Heh. Fair enough. At least you can make the soundtrack if you really want to, was my point really.

Anyhow. I'm up to the Ruins of Arvahn in my second playthrough, and I really really really hate the Gem Mines. I crashed halfway through it and now I'm just putting my mainchar on God mode, alt-tabbing and waiting till it kills the Baelnorn 2hp at a time. The whole ghost lights / spirits thing was stupid and cumbersome. Obsidian did well by eliminating stupid escort missions from their game, why couldnt they do the same here? The Gem mines is not a puzzle. It requires no intelligence, no tricks, no skill, takes way too long, is not fun, and in all senses of the word is horrible design. Gah.

Doesn't help that the Baelnorn have some crazy damage resistance and take ages to die. Definitely my least favourite part of the game, but I'm willing to slog through it.

No, but non-linearity is still non-linearity. And a plot is still a plot. A plot where the end comes first, the beginning somewhere in the middle and the middle is all over the place may sound fun to some, but certainly not to me. I actually like having the beginning at the start of the game.

You know what would make a good theme for an expansion?

Mounts, horses, giant spiders, etc would be a great enough addition to justify an expansion. Sure I still want the level cap expanded ant the addition of underdark resources but I guess I can wait until xp2 for that

It makes sense to me. You kill orcs so much that there is little more you can learn from fighting more of them.

That is cheating.

Seriously why would you learn anything more from a weak orc when you are 18th to 19th level that you didn't already learn when you were 1st to 2nd level? It doesn't make any sense that a high level character should get the same experience for defeating a low level enemy as a low level character.
