Dark_Raven Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Not having a sound track was a rip off. A lot of the other collectors editions of games have sound tracks. IWD's soundtrack rules. Love the music. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Wistrik Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 (edited) Okay, so the games I had in the 80s did come with maps, maybe because I tended to play CRPGs more than anything else. (all Ultimas except the UO crap, all Bards Tales, etc.) I just got used to receiving a map along with the manual(s). Sometimes it was cloth, sometimes glossy paper. BG1 and BG2 came with maps, and so did the IWD series (if I recall correctly.) I get annoyed about Khralvar in the OC. Every time that guy shows up to tell me something, someone rudely interrupts him. This happens even after I'm the Knight Captain. Apparently it's okay to ignore my character's authority whenever Khralvar is around. Sure it's probably an in-house gag, but I don't think it's funny. Edit: not that I need a map, but it's a nice touch. Edited November 26, 2006 by Wistrik
Tigranes Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 You can actually talk to him in peace later. It's a gag and I found it funny, but yeah. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)

It's a gag and I found it funny, but yeah. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Obviously you can talk to him later, but I think there should have been an option along the lines of "I'm the Knight-Captain. I'll decide what is important, not you."
Volourn Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Yeha, I know. It was 'funny'; but kinda of off. Ah well. Not a biggy compared to other forced things. LOL  DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Dark_Raven Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Its all good Volo. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

Spider Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 " Non linear plot," this is a fiction. there has never really been a non-linear plot written by a human being in the history of forever, but we know what you mean. Actually, Michael Moorcok experimented with non-linear fiction in the 60s I think. I've read some of it and it's incomprehensible mess. Masterfully written, but still a mess. So I agree with the notion that no one in their right mind wants an actual non-linear plot in a game. How much extra happiness would I get if I found a copy of the limited edition somewheres? I don't mind paying the extra, but I don't care about the nicknacks in the least. How many goodies would I find ingame? Basically, you get two additional feats. Either Blessing of Waukeen or Merchant's Friend depending on what edition. However, both feats are in the regular version of the game as well and can thus be given to any character with the console.
roshan Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Actually Blessed of Waukeen comes with the limited edition. If you preorder the game, you get Merchants Friend. So, if you preorder the limited edition, then you get both feats.
Sand Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Not having a sound track was a rip off. A lot of the other collectors editions of games have sound tracks. IWD's soundtrack rules. Love the music. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not really needed. The BMUs can be converted to MP3 with a utility at NWVault in which point you can burn onto a CD, either with standard audio files or as MP3. Spider Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 So, if you preorder the limited edition, then you get both feats. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or you can just use the console, which was my point to begin with.

Tigranes Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 You mean you're going to sit here and whine instead of doing a simple conversion? I mean, more power to you, but you still don't have the soundtrack for all your efforts. Cantousent Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Personally, I think there's a lot to be said for complaining. Also, I would rather have had a CD with the soundtrak. Sure, I can convert it, but I'm lazy. See? I pay for convenience. Tigranes Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Heh. Fair enough. At least you can make the soundtrack if you really want to, was my point really. Anyhow. I'm up to the Ruins of Arvahn in my second playthrough, and I really really really hate the Gem Mines. I crashed halfway through it and now I'm just putting my mainchar on God mode, alt-tabbing and waiting till it kills the Baelnorn 2hp at a time. The whole ghost lights / spirits thing was stupid and cumbersome. Obsidian did well by eliminating stupid escort missions from their game, why couldnt they do the same here? The Gem mines is not a puzzle. It requires no intelligence, no tricks, no skill, takes way too long, is not fun, and in all senses of the word is horrible design. Gah. Doesn't help that the Baelnorn have some crazy damage resistance and take ages to die. Definitely my least favourite part of the game, but I'm willing to slog through it. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)
Pop Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Stop the pouting, kids. See, LadyCrimson already uploaded one song onto the forum gallery, if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure somebody can be arsed to convert the rest, and then nobody else would have to work for it! Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
Spider Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Books are not games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, but non-linearity is still non-linearity. And a plot is still a plot. A plot where the end comes first, the beginning somewhere in the middle and the middle is all over the place may sound fun to some, but certainly not to me. I actually like having the beginning at the start of the game.
Weiser_Cain Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 You know what would make a good theme for an expansion? Mounts, horses, giant spiders, etc would be a great enough addition to justify an expansion. Sure I still want the level cap expanded ant the addition of underdark resources but I guess I can wait until xp2 for that Yaw devs, Yaw!!! (
Dark_Raven Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Speaking of EXPs. They need to change the rule set. The higher you go in level the lower the EXPs from kills you get. WoWsers! I got a whole 4 EXPs for killing an orc. That sure was worth the effort! Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Sand Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 It makes sense to me. You kill orcs so much that there is little more you can learn from fighting more of them. Dark_Raven Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 (edited) One of the reasons I lose interest in 3.x games. Console commands are your friends, givexp. Edited November 27, 2006 by Dark_Raven Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Sand Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 That is cheating. Seriously why would you learn anything more from a weak orc when you are 18th to 19th level that you didn't already learn when you were 1st to 2nd level? It doesn't make any sense that a high level character should get the same experience for defeating a low level enemy as a low level character.
