Arkan Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Are there any good beat-em-up type games for the PC? I'm not talking fighting games, mind you. Things more akin to Ninja Gaiden, God of War, etc. "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta
Calax Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Dynasty warriors is a good pure hack and slash. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Jumjalum Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Severance: Blade of Darkness is kinda like a beat-em-up. The combat is just great although the graphics might be a little dated now, I haven't played it in years. We now bring you live footage from the World Championship Staring Final.
jaguars4ever Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 X-Men Legends II - A beat-em-up with RPG elements!
Krookie Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 were the lord of the rings games ever ported to PC? I remember the Return of the King being pretty fun.
Llyranor Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Go try out the Dark Messiah demo. Very fun melee combat. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Musopticon? Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 If you mean beat'em up as in Street Fighter and the like, you are playing on the wrong platform. But if it's just good melee combat you are looking for, Dark Messiah, Rune, Severance:Blade of Darkness, Drakan and Dynasty Warriors(number whatever) are good choices. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. kirottu Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 If you mean beat'em up as in Street Fighter and the like, you are playing on the wrong platform. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OMF was pretty sweet back in the day. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Zann Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 If you don't mind having some puzzles from time to time, Legacy of Kain: Defiance is a pretty sweet game. Story-wise it's also the sequel of Soul Reaver 2, so if you want to know how it ends...
Xard Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 (edited) Return of the King kicks ass, especially in co-op (don't try to play it with keyboard though) Edited August 10, 2006 by Xard How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them. - OverPowered Godzilla (OPG)
Musopticon? Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Yeah, Defiance is good. Really fun combat and the story isn' all bad. You'd need to play the previus games in the series to get anything out of it though. One Must Fall kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Morgoth Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Go play Condemned: Criminal Origins. You can beat scum with Sledge Hammers, shovels, fire axes, gas pipes, pretty much everything you can grab around you. Very satisfying, but very violent too. Rain makes everything better.
Arkan Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Hmm...perhaps I should have clarified: I've played X-men Legends 2 and Blade of Darkness and Oni (I'd really like to have more games like this), and Streetfighter is a fighting game, not a beat-em-up. But so far we have: Dynasty Warriors (was this ported to PC?) Return of the King (ditto) Rune (what's that like?) Drakan (ditto) Legacy of Kain: Defiance thanks for the suggestions. astr0creep Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 I suppose to a certain extent the Diablo games could be considered Beat-em ups? http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Pidesco Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 No. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
astr0creep Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Why not? It certainly has Beat-em up elements. Or is that click-em ups? :D http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Pidesco Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 You don't do combos and special moves and blocks and stuff. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. Zann Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Dynasty Warriors (was this ported to PC?) Yep. And Devil May Cry too. Rune (what's that like?) I've heard it's quite... mediocre. Unless I'm mistaking with something else. It's quite old isn't it?

Azure79 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Dynasty Warriors 4 was ported to PC. Its pretty entertaining at first, especially if you're familiar with the characters, but it gets boring after a while. I
Darth Barth Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Chaos Legion, Heavy Metal FAKK2, Nightmare Creatures, Urban Chaos.. all of which are not really good. For something truly worthwhile, especially if you like River City Ransom, check out Zombie Smashers X. Many of the Totally Screwed games are a blast to play. WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE.
Bokishi Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Condemned is the best PC beat 'em up, hands down. Current 3DMark
