lol people are malding so hard about Ciri in Witcher 4, I'm totally into it now and will for sure play it when it's releasing.

People upset about Ciri not being hot enough are the funniest.

Here is a good interview from CDPR around why Ciri is the main character

I am  still not happy with how Geralt is no longer the main character but I understand the whole " this is a new narrative " from CDPR

I just think why change something that works and Geralt is so iconic? Anyway I wont be complaining about this decision anymore and I will comment further once I have played W4 and I can comment objectively on W4

" It was always about her, starting from Saga when you read it in the books. She's an amazing, layered character. And of course, as a protagonist we said goodbye to Geralt previously. So this is a continuation. I guess for all of us it’s like she was meant to be. That was always her.”

" She's actually about to become the Witcher,” Kalemba explained. “She's about to actually form her own codex, but on her own terms. The way she actually deals with the monsters, the way she deals with quests, the adventures, it's her own unique way. And also I think that she gives more room to be able to tell different stories here and there. Of course, we want to give the opportunity for the player to explore more nuance because this is what we do. But she deserves that.”

" Both Mitręga and Kalemba acknowledged a potential backlash from some corners of the internet at Ciri’s role as protagonist in The Witcher 4, but both insisted Ciri was always going to be the game’s main character."

Cause look to Disney to see that milking out dans favourite without a story to go with ot doesn’t go that well.

Witcher3 wrapped up Geralt as a character. Sure, you could drag him back, but in the best case scenario they would undermine W3. I had three games with Geralt they ended with a high note and CDPR to move forward is a welcome sign to me. According to the interview on FPS podcast Geralt is still in the world, so we will see him, but CDPR is doing to expore a new character. It could be good it could be bad, we will see. Ciri should give them space to try something new.

edit. I am quite surprised that there are people who are surprised that Ciri is the protagonist - that should be the most obvious choice for those who played and finished Witcher3.  When someone asks „why Ciri” my counter question would be „have you ever played previous games?”

That is definitely not the case for Witcher 3. As the crazy big spike of sales happened when Netflix introduced the Witcher series. So a lot of the tens of millions of sales of W3 happened in the last three years. But yeah, the Gen Alpha with their 30 second TikTok conditioned attention span might have issue remembering that as well 😛

The only thing definitely worse than having Ciri as protagonist would be bringing back Geralt as one.

(Really though, I take some issue with the dev comments. The CDPR Ciri certainly wasn't very layered or amazing as a character; and wouldn't even be an option in half (? 2/3? since I can't remember the exact end conditions) the endings they wrote themselves, ie not in the Empress/ Bad endings. It's like writing TW1 with options then when TW2 comes around insist that Geralt could only really romance Triss. If that's the case, write it that way from the outset and don't give the option)

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Can't tell if I'd be interested in that Exodus game or not. It looks kind of intriguing but per usual never enough gameplay being shown. Lots of 2 seconds of gameplay being constantly fast spliced around like an action movie trailer never "tells" me anything. Especially if it's supposed to be more of a story rpg? Need more of the "how skills/quests work" stuff.

The Borderlands 4 trailer mostly made me think it might be more interesting to play as one of the bandits/enemies than the "vault hunters." (the gameplay bits start just after the 1minute mark). Since I assume hubby will want it even if I'm "meh", we'll likely have to buy hubby some cheap new gpu, even if he's fine with 1080p gaming on his 4k monitor. I think he has a nvidia 1660 or something, which barely worked ok with BL3.

No, but also not bad for “your princess is in another castle” character that she was. I think potential is more important, than what she was in W3.

She can be a great new protagonist - but she might as well not be. It’s all about the execution, so it’s up to CDPR to deliver.

Not sure what to think of this... I had such high hopes for BL3, but I never managed more than leveling one of the characters to level 2. The writing and the characters were just rubbing me the wrong way completely. No, I did not expect a new Handsome Jack (best video game villain ever imho), but still... I loved BL2 to death and played the heck out of the Prequel with its own odd Australian flavour. BL1 was good enough for several coop playthroughs in my friend circle, but BL3? Just awful... so bloody awful (the writing).

@Gorth  I have this suspicion that BL4 may reduce the otp humor/jokes a bit. The trailer has me thinking they want to be taken a teensy (teensy) bit more seriously in that regard. Not sure why I feel that way but trailer gives me that vibe. I think at this point I wouldn't even mind if they did tone that down, it was getting a little out of hand. And yeah - BL3's plot and npc writing was terrible. Even for "what it is."
