Never crossed my mind.

I'm not a cat person but I never want to see any animals neglected or suffering. This was obviously someone's cat and we were just afraid that it got out rather than it had an owner that didn't care or know the dangers. We don't really have strays around here because the traffic, animal control, or predators get them.

I remember in one of  the townhouse complexes I stayed in one of my neighbours had 2 cats which she  loved and treated them really well but she was often working late and there was an elderly couple who were always at home and one of cats started visiting the elderly couple who loved cats and the cat ended up  adopting the new family and spent 80% of its time in there townhouse even when the original owner was at home

Early this morning (really more the middle of the night) I was starting my drive to make my delivery.  As I get ready to get onto I-85 N I see that the on-ramp is closed and it looks like they have I-85 completely shut down for some manner of road work, presumably paving. That sucks but not a big deal, I'll stay on the road I'm on until it runs into I-77 N and take that to where it crosses I-85 and only lose maybe 5 minutes. Half a mile later it turns out they have this road completely shut down for paving too. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the thing to do when you have 2 roads that are both major truck routes that THOUSANDS of big commercial vehicles use every day that both need paving that are very close to each other and one serves as the obvious detour to the other would be to stagger the road work. Pave one road and use the other as a detour then when you're finished and that road is open again you can use it as a detour to the other road that you then start paving. But what do I know? Anyway, it took me an extra 20 minutes of driving through narrow roads most definitely not made with tractor trailers in mind to get back on track. It's a wonder that I didn't take out any sign posts or blow out a tire running over a curb.

one of our aunts turned 88 on the seventh, but she didn't answer her phone when we called her so we reached out to her 84 year old sister, just to make sure everything were ok. with somebody in their late eighties, you never know, eh? turns out everybody is fine, although the older aunt had a refrigerator give up the ghost (she lives alone and maintains two refrigerators and two large freezers *eye roll*) and the younger aunt's cat, a feline of eighteen years, has kidney problems. color us shocked. from the younger aunt we heard a great deal about the cat's health problems, and how joe biden was at fault for all the dirty, immigrant, homeless people down in los angeles. our older aunt most certain does not share her sister's views on homelessness, so the younger aunt unloaded on us. 'cause?

what were weird were our aunt insisting how our father, when he were younger, looked "identical" to the host of fear factor... which didn't immediate register for us as we had literal never watched fear factor.

joe rogan?

...

had same reaction as axel

same build, same facial features, same ability to do that exaggerated bug-eye stare. our father never lost his hair and were o' darker o' complexion, but otherwise a younger Gromnir sr. and a fear factor aged joe rogan with hair could ez pass as brothers. credit to our aunt as we had never seen the similarities until our she mentioned.

weirder still, our aunt shared the fact our father loved to dance when he were young. apparently he danced all the time at home. our grandfather wired stereo speakers into their basement so the our father and his two sisters could dance to music whenever they wanted to. our father competed in and won local and regional dance contests.

our father were ex-military and the "ex" were something he never quite accepted. the dad we knew ate old horseshoes for breakfast and the only time we saw him smile were when he were about to hurt somebody, but he loved to dance?

...

well, ok then. am mid-fifties and still learning things 'bout our immediate family. go figure.

HA! Good Fun!

Had a friend look at my bicycle, they asked to do a quick test ride. Just fifteen seconds later, they test the brakes and they've flipped themselves over the handlebars head first into ground. One trip to the hospital and an hour later, their memory of the whole event has disappeared: they don't remember what they were trying to do or anything of what was said leading up to (or after) the incident. Diagnosed with a concussion and bruised ribs, but CT scan doesn't show any brain abnormalities. I can only assume that my front brakes were much tighter than they were used to and they didn't think to test them more gingerly to start out with: can't really think of any other reason why someone who I do not believe to be dumb and who is an relatively experienced bicycle rider would suddenly flip themselves over into a traumatic brain injury literally just seconds into testing a bike.

I have a few notes from this experience:

  1. Always wear your helmet, because between other people trying to kill you and split-second decisions you may make without clearly thinking them through before you do them, your head is worth protecting...even if it's for just a casual and "totally safe" quick test ride.
  2. Even though it's not really my fault, when you see someone suffer a horrific injury that could've easily been avoided if you had just said "test the brakes before you do anything else" (which I literally do every time I get on even my own bicycle because I have a mortal fear of brakes not working correctly, which has potentially saved me from a similar fate once upon a time when my back wheel brakes had inexplicably disconnected), it's really difficult to not feel responsible for them getting hurt.
  3. I might need a new bicycle.

So...how was everyone else's Sunday morning?

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

I also had a dream so disturbing I was actually punching myself inside the dream, yelling wake up idiot at myself. Details are a little vague after waking up, but it involved running through the hallways and classrooms of my high school with people randomly committing suicide while running past them. Did not wake up from punching or yelling at myself, nor did I gain control over the dream from figuring out that I was dreaming.

Can't wait for dream recording technology to be ready, I'm going to make tons of money selling them as ideas for films and books. :p

Hubby had an MRI yesterday, which means they're finally taking him more "seriously" - eg, he couldn't see one of their specialists or something without the MRI. They also mentioned something about finding trace amounts of blood in his urine from a while back so they want him to come back and do that again, after a couple weeks. Nothing alarming, probably nothing, just to make sure/see if it resolved itself. On the bright side, he's been saying that the past week he's been feeling "maybe 10%-15% better, most of the time" - so I guess that's something? :)

Speaking of doctors, my doctor assistant has been up my butt sideways about trying to schedule my "6 month follow up blood test". My first blood test revealed that Im healty as a healthy ox, so Ive blown off 4 voicemail to me, one to my wife, and an actual written letter to my home (madness!). But I respect her hustle and she broke me down enough to make an appointment. This preventative medicine BS better be covered by my insurance.

^ Ever since the diabetes stuff and I got into their "now all computerized systems"  Kaiser has been sending me these packets in the mail every 4-6 months as part of their general preventive program for colon cancer screening I think.  I have no desire to send them regular fecal matter thru the mail, so I have so far ignored them.

Spoilered in case you don't want to read it, but yeah, I hope it is nothing alarming...

Spoiler

My aunt had continous back pains for a quite a while with no apparent cause, at least until the doctors found a 6 inch tumor on one of her kidneys. Luckily, she's fine as it did not spread, and happily living on with just one kidney, but... yeah.

Yeah, stuff like that is why - well, let's say that in my experience, generally speaking - plus including "female" things and my parent's experience with father's multiple sclerosis - doctors have this tendency to assume/brush many things off (initially) without even really checking anything, and you typically have to be pretty aggressive even re: insisting on diagnosis and elimination from the get go.

I'm not all that concerned, he has a history of his back "going out" so it's not completely out of the blue/new or anything. But I'd still insist on the elimination processes available, because you don't want to waste your time if the assumption- even if it's a good assumption based on history - is wrong.

I thought it was kinda strange that they want to check my blood every six months, after all I went ~25 years without visiting a doctor, but my neighbor explained that it should be covered by my insurance. I guess they just like to keep on top of things, but I know me and theres no way Im going to maintain this regularity.  I still walk around the blocks a few times a week and not stuffing my piehole with delicious candies keeps me at my natural fighting weight of 209 Lb (94800.8g for you weirdos).

If you haven't been to this doctor, they may want to get a baseline for a few visits and then drop you to annual physicals unless something happens.

Or they may just want that sweet, sweet insurance money.
