Hm, online survival game sounds like something they can monetize a lot

Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

It's just not the same as I76. The setting, the characters, the cars, the music, etc... Carmageddon was good too, but again, completely different beast.

I think it's owned by Activison, no? That means it'll be dead forever.

I wonder if it's legally an option to make a very similar game and just give it a different name. VigilanteSomethingSomething or whatever.

Who knows. They keep bringing back Battlezone every once in a while,  maybe someone crazy decides to bring back Interstate 76 in a way.

1.13 killed off Ja2.

Since we're talking about Interstate '76, one of my most beloved games, this gives me an excuse to post IMHO the greatest video game intro theme:

This is a bittersweet reminder that Activision wasn't always a vile, noxious pile of human excrement.  Once upon a time they developed and published awesome games, like this.

What's all this talk about Interstate 76? No love for Fatal Racing?

I wouldn't be surprised if Nightdive Studios released any of the games on Steam. A Windows 10 compatible version is very much possible if they could aquire the rights to those games somehow.

Not to mention we actually don't know anything about the new Fallout yet. It could just be Fallout 5 set in Philadelphia.

You do know that the game is called Fallout 76 and not Fallout 5, right?

While we're at it, why not also point out that the only hint they gave us initially was that it is taking the Fallout series to a new direction. Making a survival online co-op game out of a game that has been always about the single-player experience is indeed ironic.

Edit: rebuild!

Rage 2 is going to be closer to I76 tha Fallout will ever be... and that's a good thing.

What's more is that the new Sonic Racing Battle Royale takes the genre up a notch.

Interstate 76 is pretty good, but there's also few others that are just as good...

Twisted Metal 2

Vigilante 8: Second Offense

Cel Damage

Rogue Trip

Of course, most people here have never heard of them because it they weren't on pc but nonetheless, these are genre defining for their own reasons.

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest.

Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

Early videa gaem 3D is a crime against humanity.

To be fair, I've never seen Interstate 76 before and the graphics just generally seem so heavily stylized the game looks... Well, charming at any rate.

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

I'd rather play an old classic like Rune instead of some garbage such as For Honor. Nevermind the graphics...

There is a VR community on Steam who are literally aiming to put to death anything retro or outdated looking. Are you part of them? :)

Don’t be silly. Everybody knows it’s the work of Nazis from Dark Side of the Moon, who are brainwashing the masses through the delicate net of agents in the game development!!!

Sooo, Fallout 76, apparently there's been some leaks from a reliable source (predicted title last year already). Knowing that MxR's videos aren't exactly everyone's cup of tea, I'll summarize:

  • it's still going to be an RPG, no battle royale, Rust like or anything
  • emphasis on building and improvised weapons rather than customizing weapons (whatever that means)
  • voiced protagonist is back (tbh, I ended up not minding the female voice actress much, she did an ace job, too bad about the ****ty script and dialogue system, but no word on the latter one so far)
  • groundwork for FO5 which is already in the works apparently
  • no modding outside of the creation club

If that last one is true then Bethesda is really trying to sink its own ship.

If that last one is true then Bethesda is really trying to sink its own ship.

It pretty much tanked DOOM's modding scene in spite of the game providing you with decent modding tools from the getgo, so I'd hope Bethesda would have learned. ... Or, y'know, not.

Old news already. Was talked about yesterday or whatever. :>

I didn't see the mod related stuff or the leak mentioned around here (nor in the E3 thread) just speculation based on other rumours. Figured at least the mod related stuff would be interesting to mention...

Honestly, I hope this happens here as well. The only reason why their games keep staying alive that long is because of mods on the pc. If they are gone, Bethsoft should finally be able to feel the impact.

thinking about it

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

I am sure the consoles will make up for it on their bottom line. Though, I agree that this decision will have ramifications on the PC front. IMHO, Enderal is an example of why I own Skyrim. That is why modding is great.

Also, if they keep trying to elicit control over modders there is the long shot of a small company building a game engine and game with mods in mind to take advantage of the vacuum. Which would force Bethesda to up their game and give us a solid TES/FO competitor. Bethesda's mods have been their major strength on pc.

As I cant say it is their game design, combat, or story telling.

I do think this is a mistake. It's a mistake they have been aiming at for a long while. So, I'm not surprised.
