Why can't we bind stuff to our extra mouse buttons?
constantine replied to TrueMenace's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I have the same issue in Wasteland 2. I think extra mouse buttons are not supported. -
Hello. Old thread, but since the final beta build, 435, is released I thought to ressurect it so we can talk about builds. My interest is in building a DPS, Greatsword-wielding Fighter (GS is my personal preference, it looks rly cool ). Thoughts on talent selection and attribute distribution ? While I say DPS, I think in PoE such a build would be described better as ' high dmg per hit' . But you get the idea. Also, do you think a single weapon or dual-weilding fighter could do more DPS than the two-hander ?

Maybe he's seen lot of his suggestions implemented in the game

Project Eternity: Wiki
constantine replied to Tigranes's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The wiki is outdated as of now. -
Well, we've got to see PoE first ! I agree to those you said as far as game engine, classes. I like to dream of a PoE trilogy, and then more games ! New stories on this setting ! But then I wonder, are all those games going to be kickstarted as well? I would certainly like them to, but is Obsidian going to do it? The future of PoE will boil down to the financial success and fame of the first game, seems to me. But if I had to guess, I suspect Obsidian is hoping for a big, fat company to finance further games.

Well, they should, from a simulationist approach, but I doubt Obsidian would dare it -

The Matt Sheets Q(&)A thread
constantine replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
On magical items-- how useful will crafting be ? Ultimately you will be able to craft weapons/armour/accessories of end-game tier, or it will be: fill the blanks with something inferior until you find that neat piece ? On Stronghold-- Will Stronghold content be there to give you gold/resources/items or will it be tied in some ways to quests, NPCs you meet or even the main path ? All in all, is the stronghold option completely optional, with not much to miss, as it was in BG2 ? -
It's not for the masses, but it will certaintly have more appeal to newcomers in the genre than Wasteland 2. Being that mmorpg-like combat mechanics and attributes, togglable options to address breast-feeding gameplay or the fact that the game actually looks good for a crpg, I believe it has potential to strike a note to them. And that's what I like about PoE the most, it shows no fear to modernize a few, so far in ways that haven't been an issue to me. One can say the complete opposite for W2- the game reveres the old gods piously, a fact I like, but then I wouldn't mind an attempt at modern adaptation like PoE does.

So from what I hear, the 'must-haves' should be: -Cipher VIP Companion -Druid VIP Companion -Chanter VIP Companion How about the Cleric ? Is he kind of redundant with the Druid in party ? I'll stay clear of Palegina, my personal preference- I don't like zealous people that are quite likely to judge my every decision. Also, I'd like to have the Wizard VIP Companion, I love wizards, but noone here mentionts them as a valuable asset, which is a pity My main being a DPS fighter, I already see a problem in my party- I need tanks ? or I should be fine (planning to play on hard-expert) Suggestions on 5th-6th member ? Keep the Wizard as 5th in the first place ? Lastly, will the party suffer a lot without a Rogue-Monk ?

Also, I'm thinking of fighter as a protagonist (and I'll most likely not use adventurer's hall) and I was thinking of opting her for two-handed weapons, particularly a greatsword since I like them so much. However I am also thinking for one-handed weapon style (again, sword type ), due to the +15 accuracy of the style maybe you can opt a high-critical build. Anyway, thoughts ? How do you suggest I build my two-hander, or should I go for one-handed style ? I want to spec a high dmg-per-hit fighter that isn't too slow and can hold her ground. *I don't want to min-max attributes, so I hope that will not be necessary

I would prefer responses of the kind: X class is useful b/c of said talent/spell/mechanic, Y class shows its value if used like this and that .. Like, share your strategies and say how you use your preferable classes

I'd like to ask the backer beta players, based on their exp with the different beta builds, and their intution on how the classes will end up in the final build, to make a top 3 list of the most valuable classes, explaining the reasons they find them most valuable. Of course the top 3 will be subjective to one's playstyle (for example someone may manage without fighter's sticky methods, while someone else cannot picture playing without it) and to play difficulty (some classes may shine on hard-PotD, while others may become obsolete and hamper the player), but in general the feedback will be tons of useful to us non-beta players who didn't have the opportunity to play the game. Thank you in advance for your feedback

Merchant Gold
constantine replied to Hassat Hunter's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am very disappointed that vendor gold limit was removed, it was a nice touch of realism, but it's not a deal-breaker for me. However, I can't help but wonder how much use will gold have in PoE-- the player can freely collect ALL loot and sell all of it, so with little effort you can collect lots of gold. Where do you spent all that ? Will vendors sell fine, exceptional, magical variants of weapons/armor and rare materials for crafting ? Will they be expensive enough to justify you gathering all those reaches ? Or maybe gold will be used to upgrade the stronghold ? It worries me if things turn out to be like BG games, where after a point you had little use for gold and got your best gear through adventuring (less apparent in BG2, you could be lazy adventuring and just buy +4 gear at adventurer's mart, thus making good use of gold) -
One more vote for combat log in the centre. (honestly I cannot understand how designers can play the game will the log to right)

Too bad for the bitching, for the game has turned out amazing. It will be an instant classic and as I see it, it is one (or more) step forward than the games that inspired it, a true evolution. And this comes from a person who has those old games on top. Pillars has much polish for a kickstarter project and high production values. All that remains is for the game to prove itself with an engaging story, since we have the fun gameplay part covered. But the despite the bitching, I am certain Pillars will receive recognition all-around, unlike Wasteland 2 that allienated young gamers with outdated mechanics (and lack of polish)- don't get me wrong there, I am currently playing W2 and enjoy it tons, being a huge fan of classic Fallouts (1,2) I think W2 is a true successor, but I can understand that not many gamers of nowadays will find pleasure playing that kind of game.

Male or Female
constantine replied to constantine's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
As for alighment, my PoE female protagonist will start off as a somewhat indifferent, introvert person, the life of the mercenary having branded her being. She won't be a brute but rather an all-around well-mannered person, very loyal to those she cares for- also there's an interesting woman to meet there, who knows good humour. In most cases I can't play evil, it just doesn't feel right to me My protagonists struggle to make the bestest good out of every situation, or what's right and judge based on their moral compass, often laying aside their personal needs. It is possible my PoE girl turns out like that if the events of the main story drive her so, but she won't start out like that. -
Male or Female
constantine replied to constantine's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm pretty sure it was Suikoden III that first got my mind fixed on female protagonists, I very much admired Chris and the achievement that a woman can get so much respect in 'a man's world'.
