  1. WHOAH ! Vote results based on 200+ votes show that 'least liked' companion choice is evenly distributed among companions, meaning that there is no such thing as a really bad companion among the rest, but who you don't like is a matter of personal preference. HOWEVER, Eder has got a *single vote* of least-likeable companion, meaning that the guy is ok (or better) for the vast majority. Congrats Eder ! :D
  2. I can understand your frustration, those games were based on an older, quite hardcore D&D pen'n'paper ruleset. They call out to an older era of video games that no longer exists. Still, for us older gamers they are among the best rpgs of all time, maybe so for some younger gamers. Enter PoE, marrying the obsolete with many of today's standars, while showing the younger what made the old games great. And the result is: *totally brilliant awesomeness* :D Unfortunately, here in the forums there is a lot of negativity going on (& on & on...) by people who cling to the past. Don't mind them.
  3. Of course. I'm leaving the discussion in this here thread, though. No need to fuel your anger further. It wouldn't hurt to buy darts to throw at Obsidian devs heads for targets instead of crowding the forums.
  4. We're getting this accusation from you? You? The same person who, just a few minutes ago decided to 'inform' us that the only reason we love the IE games more than PoE is because we've grown to "accept" their faults? Grow up, already. ............ ok.
  5. Why is it so incomprehensible to you that some people find the game just average, and other people find it terrible? Kind of like, oh let me just pick some random game out of thin air here... how about Baldur's Gate? Or Icewind Dale? Yeah, there are people that don't like some of the classics on which this game draws its inspiration. Is it really, honestly so hard to grasp that some people find flaws in this game - more than they feel can be fixed to make it a great game? What are those people doing in these forums ? Trolling ? The forums are for people who (more or less) like the game, care about its future, want to see improvements and discuss about all that. Even if you've paid 25 or more bucks to back the game, bitching in the forums will not get you anywhere or make you a better person.
  6. Holy Moly, I've never seen such warped logic. Not to mention history revision. First, the game got better during the 6-month Open beta testing period in spite of an immense and sustained campaign of 'rudeness and fighting' that was much worse and far more widespread than anything we're seeing right now. So I'm not quite sure how you're reaching the conclusion that the community needs to change (or maintain) its behavior in any way. Second, the game got better within the 6 months of beta testing because it was still in the friggin beta phase of production. It was unfinished. Typically, unfinished games get better as developers work on finishing them. Duh. Of course, by suggesting that we'll be seeing the same continual progress post-release that we saw during the 6 months of Beta testing, you're basically admitting that PoE is still a Beta, and that we have to wait for 6 months for them to complete it. You're free to believe this if you wish, but that constitutes a HUGE criticism of the game - something very much equal to the type of viewpoint contained in the Codex review that sent you on a multi-thread hissy fit. Third, the community doesn't have to do anything. And you are grotesquely overestimating yourself and everyone here if you think we have the power to influence the quality and scope of future game updates at all. It's funny how you put words in my mouth (so to speak). No need to over-analyse words, we're just talking things. Unless you purposely try to make me appear in a specific manner.
  7. Debatable about the graphics ? How many years has it been since you've played BG2 ? Every last one of us has come to accept a whole bunch of issues that make those old games less than great. Not so for PoE. You are unfair about companions, story, quests, role-playing, exploration, content density, loot. Only complains I find have basis are about combat (encounters & mechanics), attributes & skills and leveling up pace which all can have improvements, moreso the combat department. Let's talk about that.
  8. For one, those games have gained status of legendary proportions. On another note, the major reason we lovvvv these games is *nostalgia*. For many many many of us, those experiences where among our greatest moments of gaming. So, enter PoE, a new francise supposely as good as the old games. What many here haven't realised is that they judge PoE harshly and are not open-minded. PoE is not here to replace our favourite games, but to line its own course. More importantly, it was developed not to be a clone of BG, IWD, PS:T, but to *based on* these games. You had all better apply your critique for PoE with that in mind. Sure, there are flaws, but with the feedback of a supportive community (who don't fight and be rude to each other) the game will become better, as it did within the 6 months of beta-testing.
  9. also, to take this a step further.. what i really hope to see is a game like this set in the pathfinder system. IMO, that is THE BEST version of D&D 3.5 thats currently released. i think it would be fantastic to see it translated to the video game realm. it sure wouldnt be that difficult to do. You should check 5e- imo it's the best d&d edition so far, by far (I ve been playing dnd ever since the AD&D days)
  10. Bonus spells are really good b/c Aloth will be able to caste 1st lv spells at a per encounter basis at lv 9 and then do the same for 2nd lv spells at lv 11. So it's nice to have 5 of each per encounter (although they may be redudant at smaller encounters). Bonus 1st Lv Spell is a must, you can spam Fan of Flames or Tattered Veils (which is a fast spell) to interrupt and buy time for your melee. Or even cast Eldritch Aim every encounter right before you are to release some heavy dmging spells. Bonus 2nd Lv usefulness depends on your play choice. You may want to spam the single target Corrosive Lance or Merciless Gaze, Curse of Blankened Sight every encounter (or paralyse-spam with Fetid Caress) and feel you're gonna need the extra spell. Arcane Veil is a nice, fast thing to activate for when you are about to get in a tough spot- Harderned Veil, although powerful, is not worth it imo. You spent 2 talents for a rare bad situation just for a 10+sth seconds buff. I thing 1 talent is enough, better cast Mirrored Image for added protection, if not having done already or the next choice: Grimoire Slam. Kind of meh, but it doesn't hurt to have an engagement-breaking button for Aloth, especially if your spells position you close enough to the action you're gonna attract attention. I manage without it though. Aloth doesn't need the weapon focus talent and modals don't help his casting. Envenomed Strike is of little use as well. Defense talents are not good choices also, unless you want to better shield him against mind or stunning effects (in that case, it helps more to get the +10 to relevant defense talent- Unstoppable and others will be your next choice if you need more defense). However, it would be a nice choice to get the utility talent that increases speed and have Aloth move fast in the battlefield, position himself where necessary. Not so if you tend to move Aloth too little during combat. As for elemental dmg spells, +20% is not huge, but is noticeable when it comes to wizard spells. You can chooce either to strengthen those dmg dealers you're gonna cast every encounter (Fan of Flames- Scion of Flame, Corrosive Lance- Spirit of Decay) or to make your most powerful spells pack more punch by choosing lighting, ice specialization- or even do both His wizard specialization talents are not very interesting, apart from the choice that includes the 1st, 2nd lv buffs (again b/c those buffs may be cast every encounter at higher lvs). But then, most people use Aloth as a controller and AoE dmg dealer and chances are you are not gonna use those much. Hope that helped :D
  11. Aside from dialogue options, this is what Lore is for. It is also good that Lore is one of the skills that is worth putting points into for most characters in your party. For me it's fine as it is.
  12. In an interview Feargus Urquhart has said the stronghold is a "core thing of the game". It sounds like Obsidian plans on expanding it. http://www.pcgamer.com/pillars-of-eternity-tabletop-rpg-and-card-game-in-the-works/ <- source "Now, in the future, we look at it as also a great place where we can, when we add content to the game, where we can sort of have these quests, new people can show up. If we have new features, new items and things like that, we can add aspects to the buildings, in which those buildings can do new things with items, so it's definitely a core thing of the game that we plan to grow as we continue to grow the game." <- relevant quote Stronghold will hopefully get the love it deserves. It is still cool though even as it is, owning that place. And in a sequel it could become a true base of operations, around which a whole village/community has sprouted.
  13. Sure of that. So, PoE's combat/overall experience can be made better. Let's start posting suggestions, however those will most likely be thought about for PoE2. But with some luck, the expansion will modify some rules ? Dark Souls 2 redesigned encounters with their latest patch. Here I go: -engagement: remove bonuses of disengagement attacks. Add talent to move for x seconds wihout provoking such attacks, albeit with less speed, like hobbled. -status effects: grazes should prevent afflictions for some (if not all) of the effects. Crits shouldn't have x1.5 duration. Give immunities to some enemies (spirit immune to knockdown for instance) and modify spells that boost against certain afflictions to grant immunity instead. With some work, you can find balance by give-and-take. -work on challenging enemy AI and add companion AI -stretch out XP rewards for bestiary XP to killing +50% of given creature. Less quest XP, like -30% to individual XP reward -collect copy-pasted encounters in some places and do some of the following: Re-design enemy placement/type of them. Make ambushes/enemies calling reinforcements. Remove some. -add more, if only for flavor, dialogue choices that acknowledge PC's class, background, race. Have Disposition cancel one another: 1Cruel gets canceled by 1 Benevolent resulting to neutral (non-existant) Disposition. -Attribute-related: Make interrupts last longer but have them occur less likely (change concentration-interrupt formula). That way you give more merit to (Perception) interrupt builds. Give more love to DEX- either have it give +4% action speed per point or have it also give 1 Deflection per point, or 1 Accuracy per 2 DEX points above 10 (with same penalties for below 10). -Skills: Have group Stealth work with an average of party members skill value. Add Survival bonus alert the player that danger lurks ahead or patroling enemy is approaching (creature type/numbers). This way we will not have to stealth everywhere if there is a high survival guy in the party. Have mechanics work without needing to go into inspect mode but at a closer range to the trap/hidden object and after a time delay (dependant on skill value) -Finally, some core combat mechanic: Allow player to escape combat through some 'escape button' that increases speed, but lowers defenses and leaves PCs open to disengagement attacks. Then some enemies may pursue, others may not care, others may alert allies, depending on enemy AI and/or specific combat/quest scenario. -Another core combat mechanic: Have combat initiate inside a specific radius. That way companions out of the action cannot use combat-only abilities and others may approach the encounter from stealth. That's the most of it, some issues having more importance than others, and issues that escaped my attention in the first place- thoughts ? *edit: typos
  14. I'm done fighting with other posters in this topic or any other and will resume talking about the game and offering suggestions to improve it. I would never have done it in the first place, if not for Darth Roxor's post underestimating the intelligence of anyone who has put hours into PoE and classic ie games.

  16. What are you even talking about? "You people"? I still care about contributing to the game. I do bug reports, I keep raising issues, I keep bringing up stuff to discussion, I comb through it for things that should be improved. What do you do, except brush issues off, act passive-aggressive, and label people left, right and centre? Saying that "we" helped create this is also wrong. I've been pointing out the very clear issues with the Attribute Bonuses since the current set first arrived, in BBv435, a build during which they couldn't even be tested properly, because Interrupt was broken and Dexterity worked in reverse! Then later BBv480 came, had kept the current bonuses, and then there was release. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Not in relation to the mechanics, not in what constitutes constructive criticism, and not what "you people" are all about. It's not the AI. We're not *looking* for weaknesses in the system in order to "exploit" them. You play the game, you develop tactics. These tactics are infantile and simplistic, because much of the system is infantile and simplistic. It is not a single issue; it is a group of mechanics that together work to create rote, banal gameplay. What exactly is supposed to be the "exploit" here? Wherein lies the "cheating"? Wherein lies the "looking for weaknesses to the system"? Stop using these buzzwords to try to obfuscate the issues. They're real, and they should be discussed as real issues. ...but the AI could still use some work. No. Exactly where is that ship sailing? Free movement in combat isn't anything odd or strange. It's pretty damn basic. Now, I'm not saying that the game needs that, necessarily - not at all, I never have. As many will attest, I always lied the idea of the Engagement system, but in play, it has some serious issues, especially when taken together with all the other penalties to movement, both systemic (penalties to recovery for no reason) and fundamental (movement by itself has an opportunity cost to it). There's no merit to this claim at all. It's ridiculous. There's a lot of people that are consistently critical of the game and come with constructive criticism throughout the entire forum that still evidently care about the game. Myself, Gkthellar, Stun, Monte Carlo, and several others. I have at least 10 bug/issue reports in the last two days alone. Where is your contribution? This is nothing but non-constructive passive-aggressiveness on your part, a manchild that considered his own opinion so important that it was too good for the dedicated thread and needed it's own. If you actually participated in the conversations in a constructive manner, you'd know this to be true. But you're just a butthurt fanboy with no interest in actually discussing on a reasonable level, and it doesn't do anyone or anything any service - least of all the game. I wonder if it could be because Sensuki has an in-depth knowledge of the game and it's mechanics and have been contributing positively to the development of the game, and it's a damn shame that Sawyer has his own head so far up his own ass that he wasn't listening. The fact of the matter is that a lot of us still think that this is a relatively good game, but more importantly, that the game has the potential to be a fantastic game. That's where all the criticism stems from. That's why I still come with suggestions on how to improve even existing questlines. It's why we examine what went wrong with Defiance Bay. It is why we discuss the issues of the narrative either failing to motivate or rushing you with an ultimatum. It's why there's threads coming up with solutions to the armour dichotomy. Because not only do we nourish a faint hope that these things will be addressed by Obsidian revisiting established content either in patches or expansions, but in examining them, we hope that it will be improved in sequels. Free mv in combat is the root of the problem for ie BG-like crpgs. The bane of all. Most of known combat exploits stem from it. I'm sorry, but all I see behind your embellished words (besides attacking my person and zeroing in any value to any word I post) is how you too are so pissed that this game has engagement (although you backers has explicitly pointing out that it should be gone) and how pissed you are that the mechanics in this game aren't BG-like. There is NO point anymore in trying to explain to *you* people why PoE is a good game, with enjoyable combat. It *can* be improved, but the source material is good already. But you will fail to agree to that b/c *you* people refuse to accept the game for what it is. You are a minority though and I wouldn't bother a second less unless for the disappointment I feel for many of you, being so helpful during development and BB and now spitting poison for the game. One last thing, as it has been pointed out by a lot of people in the past, *you* people are backers who offer suggestions and not game designers to get things your way.
  17. @luzarius, man I've switched Sagani to your build and she hits really hard ! Her wounding shots contribute lots in a battle ! thanks for the nice suggestions
  18. Constructive criticism? Are you really one to take those words into your mouth? Honestly? -Attributes in PoE There may well be the game's greatest achievement. Lesser impact, but it is there. Open to let the player try out character builds. *You* people helped for them being what they are now, at a time when you were still caring to contribute to the game. -Encounters They *are* falling short- we knew it beforehand. Obsidian told us there is no time to properly develop challenging AI. Encounters are prone to exploitation, *especially* when people are looking for weaknesses to the system. If one plays like normal people do he won't experience the whole lot of it. -Engagement and Mv in Combat Engagement is too punishing and should be toned down. We've been saying this throughout development. Our voices may be heard sometime. Still, better have harsh engagement than free mv in combat. You all know where *that* ship is sailing. But it seems you've all grown past caring for improving this game, more likely ever since @Sensuki stated that it was 'flawed by design' and unfixable. At least @Sensuki did one last good thing for me before leaving. I've been playing his dps Fighter disabling build and I've been enjoying it lots. *edit: there is also the matter of lack of immunities for enemies, which I too would like to see them return
  19. When have you people stopped offering constructive criticism for the betterment of PoE and turned to exaggeration ? Was it after @Sensuki said the game is 'flawed by design' ? Please..
  20. The guy who posted it had every right to express himself and make his complaints known. I, in return, have every to apply my critique on his thesis. I have no butthurt and I m very much enjoying the game every time I have the time I can understand you LYAO, since there's not much else to do, like counter-argue the argument I make in the topics I disagree with the reviewer.
