  1. This is exactly what happened to my first party in BG1. I recall this like it was yesterday! :D Ah, the fond memories of being torn to pieces by serrated fangs the length of scythe-heads... I actually encountered my first ankheg coming out of those kobold-infested mines on the other side. The result was the same though. Yeah I got ankheged myself just trying to wander around in the first game. I also those spiders near High Hedge got me a whole lot.
  2. Never even heard of it before today.
  3. The whole "regurgitating" argument is rooted in the idea that remaking a FL film is somehow unoriginal. Which is also - arguably - true of any adaption from any other media including filmic ones. IMO, it whether something is a remake, an adaption, a retread or a wholely new work, there are a lot more important things to consider when regarding the merit/lack of merit when viewing the film than whether it started out as another film (or book or tv show or...)
  4. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/22285033/mansion-lord-a-murder-mystery-rpg-business-sim I dunno if it'll be any good (they say they're industry vets but don't list what games they worked on before coming together for this company) but the idea is pretty darn intriguing.
  5. The Park Chan-wook film was based on a Japanese manga series, so you could argue that film was itself regurgitating.
  6. The sex trafficking thing was fairly low key (ie they never really showed what the bots did, for example), the skin farming and abductions and murders par for the course for a police procedural show. Maybe its just that I never figured I'd hear people talking about "ball draining" on network TV. Like I said, its a good show, but I was just a but surprised at that.
  7. You can't make a point if you don't have a point, I think...
  8. I confess I was a bit shocked about the "ball talk" in an 8:00 pm network program. 9:00 wouldn't have seemed weird, but 8:00 did. I guess I'm officially a fogy. That said the show reminded me of a sci-fi take on the modern CSI/crime procedural, to be honest. And in that sense I enjoyed it a good deal. Maybe this will be the "Cop partnered with a android" show that will actually last more than one season (following Holmes and Yo-Yo, Future Cop, and Mann and Machine)
  9. The new Ms. Marvel is actually not the first Muslim heroine in Marvel comics. You have Sooraya "Dust" Qadir in the X-Men books (debuted in 2002) and Dr. Faiza "Excalibur" Hussain in Captain Britain and MI:13 (debuted in 2008) that I know of. Might be accurate to say she's the first Muslim heroine to headline her own comic, though. And despite Oby's pic, she's not fighting crime in a Burqa (or even an abaya with niqāb like Dust does).
  10. That's the traditional argument. But is it actually what's going on? I don't think so. These people are quite capable of understanding the correct sentence constructions. They do not consistently use double-negatives. I suspect that the phrase itself functions as a single signal unit, like a word would. Modern British is littered with common use phrases, such as "to be fair" or "at the end of the day" or "**** **** **** biscuits". I also suspect that it is deliberately incorrect. By rejecting proper grammar one stands apart from mainstream acceptance. But one also by default joins another group of incorrect grammar users. I don't think its deliberately incorrect so much that its use has been consistent and wide spread enough that its meaning has been accepted into conversational speaking. I don't think it'd work in an academic setting, but in conversation most people understand the intent of the phrase taken as a whole. I'd argue its similar to "I could care less" being understood, conversationally, to mean "I couldn't care less", ie "I don't care". I don't think it has anything to do with the people using it now being "uneducated" - whether that's how the phrase originates or not. I think its common now through use, not educational levels, and again represents the growing, changing nature of conversational English.
  11. Not really sure where to put this, however this is the closest place I can think of - Flying Frog Productions (Last Night on Earth, Invasion from Outer Space, A Touch of Evil) is kickstartering a new game - I've liked some of the other FFP games, and this seems like it could be the physical game equivilent of an "Icewind Dale" type dungeon adventure. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1034852783/shadows-of-brimstone Currently they've more than met their goal and have 5 days remaining to try and hit some more stretch goals, if anyone is interested.
  12. Its their money to waste but...it makes no sense to me. Is there a point?
  13. The news announcer when I was driving home yesterday said "Toronto's city council has voted to strip Rob Ford today." *pause* "That is they voted to strip him of his mayoral powers today..."
  14. Thinking about Snowblind (who did Champions of Norrath) also did Lord of the Rings: War in the North (360 - but multiplatform). Which I didn't like as much as the Norrath games, but I did think was kind of fun and played a couple of times. Which reminds me that I quite liked the co-op fantasy title that InXile put out at around the same time - Hunted: The Demon's Forge (360/PS3)
  15. I wouldn't wish Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel on my worst enemies. As a fan of hack and slash (since its not fantasy perhaps that should be "shoot and...shoot some more"?) games, I can say that its one of the few that I actively disliked. I was, however, a fan of Hunter: The Reckoning (XBOX), Hunter: The Reckoning: Wayward (PS2) and Hunter: The Reckoning: Redeemer (XBOX). I seem to recall liking the original more than the other two and the XBOX games slightly better than the PS2. And I loved Champions of Norrath, but again very hack/slash and not as strong on story (although it is there) as some games. They're probably more like Diablo II in terms of story focus, I guess. I'm not a fan of the IE games in multiplayer - know some love it but I didn't.
  16. Re-watched Monsters vs Aliens (very fun movie, IMO) and Pacific Rim (I enjoyed it but felt this time around that the human stories vs giant battles wasn't balanced exactly right).
  17. If we are offered some instant indication of their interpretation then that's fine. I was more considering a hidden counter somewhere where we don't know what their interpretation was. Ah, well I suppose there is the question of how this plays into global concerns (like annoy enough people and people find you annoying in general when you meet them). I guess right now we don't have enough info on something like that.
  18. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/nov/14/mike-tyson-undisputed-truth-astonishing-claims Undisputed Truth - Mike Tyson's autobiographic book apparently has a number of interesting relations including In other news, Dai Macedo wins Brazil's "Miss Bum-Bum" competition - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/14/dai-macedo-miss-bum-bum-2013_n_4276120.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular
  19. Yeah I can see where my use of words was mega-ambiguous, alas.
  20. Are you two assuming that since Sawyer stated: That after we make a reply we will see a little "sarcastic +1" scroll by? I assumed they meant you'd know by their reaction to your dialogue. Ie, barking an order "Get you asses moving before I kick 'em!" might lead to a response of "Great way to take control of the men sir" or "Damn you bastard if you continue to treat us like this we're leaving!". Or something, right now without an actual content relevant example it may be we're all extrapolating too much/too little about how it'll work for the players experience.
  21. One of my employees resigned on short notice. So now I have to find a new one. Also we're heading into our peak period. Which means I probably won't be able to conduct a job search until mid-January so now I have to force other people to do the job load of the now departed employee for 2-3 months. >_
  22. Nothing like looking forward to doing a new job search... ...6 months after you did the last one. Nothing like losing a good employee... ...just as you hit the busiest time in your schedule and need all hands.
  23. I dunno, I think it has potential. Script by Paul Dini, directed by production designer Robert Stromberg who I think has a very good visual eye. Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning can both act so...potential there.
  24. Maleficent Trailer -
  25. Well Under the Skin is based on a novel, so I imagine it's going to be - more or less - what the novel is + whatever Jonathan "Sexy Beast" Glazer brings into it...
