  1. That's the traditional argument. But is it actually what's going on? I don't think so. These people are quite capable of understanding the correct sentence constructions. They do not consistently use double-negatives. I suspect that the phrase itself functions as a single signal unit, like a word would. Modern British is littered with common use phrases, such as "to be fair" or "at the end of the day" or "**** **** **** biscuits". I also suspect that it is deliberately incorrect. By rejecting proper grammar one stands apart from mainstream acceptance. But one also by default joins another group of incorrect grammar users. I don't think its deliberately incorrect so much that its use has been consistent and wide spread enough that its meaning has been accepted into conversational speaking. I don't think it'd work in an academic setting, but in conversation most people understand the intent of the phrase taken as a whole. I'd argue its similar to "I could care less" being understood, conversationally, to mean "I couldn't care less", ie "I don't care". I don't think it has anything to do with the people using it now being "uneducated" - whether that's how the phrase originates or not. I think its common now through use, not educational levels, and again represents the growing, changing nature of conversational English.
  2. Not really sure where to put this, however this is the closest place I can think of - Flying Frog Productions (Last Night on Earth, Invasion from Outer Space, A Touch of Evil) is kickstartering a new game - I've liked some of the other FFP games, and this seems like it could be the physical game equivilent of an "Icewind Dale" type dungeon adventure. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1034852783/shadows-of-brimstone Currently they've more than met their goal and have 5 days remaining to try and hit some more stretch goals, if anyone is interested.
  3. Its their money to waste but...it makes no sense to me. Is there a point?
  4. The news announcer when I was driving home yesterday said "Toronto's city council has voted to strip Rob Ford today." *pause* "That is they voted to strip him of his mayoral powers today..."
  5. Thinking about Snowblind (who did Champions of Norrath) also did Lord of the Rings: War in the North (360 - but multiplatform). Which I didn't like as much as the Norrath games, but I did think was kind of fun and played a couple of times. Which reminds me that I quite liked the co-op fantasy title that InXile put out at around the same time - Hunted: The Demon's Forge (360/PS3)
  6. I wouldn't wish Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel on my worst enemies. As a fan of hack and slash (since its not fantasy perhaps that should be "shoot and...shoot some more"?) games, I can say that its one of the few that I actively disliked. I was, however, a fan of Hunter: The Reckoning (XBOX), Hunter: The Reckoning: Wayward (PS2) and Hunter: The Reckoning: Redeemer (XBOX). I seem to recall liking the original more than the other two and the XBOX games slightly better than the PS2. And I loved Champions of Norrath, but again very hack/slash and not as strong on story (although it is there) as some games. They're probably more like Diablo II in terms of story focus, I guess. I'm not a fan of the IE games in multiplayer - know some love it but I didn't.
  7. Re-watched Monsters vs Aliens (very fun movie, IMO) and Pacific Rim (I enjoyed it but felt this time around that the human stories vs giant battles wasn't balanced exactly right).
  8. If we are offered some instant indication of their interpretation then that's fine. I was more considering a hidden counter somewhere where we don't know what their interpretation was. Ah, well I suppose there is the question of how this plays into global concerns (like annoy enough people and people find you annoying in general when you meet them). I guess right now we don't have enough info on something like that.
  9. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/nov/14/mike-tyson-undisputed-truth-astonishing-claims Undisputed Truth - Mike Tyson's autobiographic book apparently has a number of interesting relations including In other news, Dai Macedo wins Brazil's "Miss Bum-Bum" competition - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/14/dai-macedo-miss-bum-bum-2013_n_4276120.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular
  10. Yeah I can see where my use of words was mega-ambiguous, alas.
  11. Are you two assuming that since Sawyer stated: That after we make a reply we will see a little "sarcastic +1" scroll by? I assumed they meant you'd know by their reaction to your dialogue. Ie, barking an order "Get you asses moving before I kick 'em!" might lead to a response of "Great way to take control of the men sir" or "Damn you bastard if you continue to treat us like this we're leaving!". Or something, right now without an actual content relevant example it may be we're all extrapolating too much/too little about how it'll work for the players experience.
  12. One of my employees resigned on short notice. So now I have to find a new one. Also we're heading into our peak period. Which means I probably won't be able to conduct a job search until mid-January so now I have to force other people to do the job load of the now departed employee for 2-3 months. >_
  13. Nothing like looking forward to doing a new job search... ...6 months after you did the last one. Nothing like losing a good employee... ...just as you hit the busiest time in your schedule and need all hands.
  14. I dunno, I think it has potential. Script by Paul Dini, directed by production designer Robert Stromberg who I think has a very good visual eye. Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning can both act so...potential there.
  15. Maleficent Trailer -
  16. Well Under the Skin is based on a novel, so I imagine it's going to be - more or less - what the novel is + whatever Jonathan "Sexy Beast" Glazer brings into it...
  17. Not watched the videos, but that light on Avellone on GhoulishVisage's screen shots make it look like he's glowing. I think he might need some RadAway.
  18. Learned a new word today - rapproachment. Thanks Wals!
  19. "Night of the Doctor" prequel mini-episode to the "Day of the Doctor" Anniversary special -
  20. Hope it wasn't already posted here.
  21. AFAIK furries don't use real fur in their costumes. I'd imagine killing a billion rabbits to make a rabbit costume so you can go squiffing would be a bit traumatic for the furry involved. Could be wrong, not really up on furry culture.
  22. *ahem* Furry (pl furries) - people who identify with and/or dress up as anthopomorphic animals Furrier (pl furriers) - One whose occupation is the dressing, designing, selling, cleaning, or repairing of furs
  23. Eh...no mention of methodology or sample size so I'd take it with a grain of salt. Even with that, they somewhat misrepresent the study even from what is known; the researcher categorized things into three categories - pleasure, meaning, and engagement then used those three categories to create a best and worst list from how some unknown size/makeup of people texted about what they did and how they ranked it (so it appears the group may have been self sampling too). Caring for Children was #5 on the best list. The worst list included "recovering from sickness", "Washing" and "Facebook". How these compared across all three categories isn't reported, but I think the categories are inclined to skew the results.
  24. Its because adult men feel a need to justify why they like things perceived as being "childish" because society expects them to put childish things behind them when they reach adulthood and start providing for families leaving their only avenue of self expression being to paint their torso in two colors as a way of showing support to the local teams on game day. RE: the thread in general - I wish there was more depth on why these are super-great "epic games" instead of listing games and slapping up screen shots. Also I really think its hard to justify a list of "most epic games" which includes games that haven't been released and thus the epic/lack of epic qualities are entirely impossible to evaluate.
  25. There's a Porche SUV? Isn't that like the car equivalent of a mullet hair cut?
