Patch 5.0 Changes to the Guardian
Before my game repeatedly crashed at Ukaizo with the 5.0 patch installed, I noticed that the Guardian of Ukaizo had a new beneficial effect listed: "The Last Megaboss x4." I had already beat the other four mega bosses on this save, which should account for the "x4" modifier. Would anyone care to take a peek into the game's files to see the exact effects this bonus grants? It looked like a pretty substantial bonus to the Guardian's defenses, but my game repeatedly crashed before I noticed any other changes.

Any way to disable Instant-kill from enemies?
DozingDragon replied to Sakita's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I do not believe so, but generally any instant-kill abilities require the character to be "Near Death" for the ability to actually instantly kill its target. Disintegration also only kills its target if the character is knocked out So keeping an eye on your party's health should allow you to mitigate the impact of those abilities. Likewise, the very few enemies that can cause Injuries to party members without knocking them out can be countered by equipping and using Luminous Adra Potions to heal any Injuries.

Question about Seeker's Fang
DozingDragon replied to Ranger_1711's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Did you complete the three additional Seeker trials which are unlocked by finding the items requested by Engari? If I recall correctly, you have to complete those fights in addition to the default ones, but I could be misremembering this.

Obsidian future plans for PoE series
DozingDragon replied to juanval's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)PoE 1 sold over a million copies. Even looking past Deadfire’s estimated sales figures, there is no way an IP with that kind of reach is entirely scuttled by Obsidian and Microsoft. Maybe it means that we won’t see another Unity-based PoE for a while (it could still happen as part of the GamesPass program), but if Obsidian is actually developing a Skyrim-like game using UE then I wager it would be part of the PoE IP.

Any estimated date for 4.2 beta?
DozingDragon replied to anishar's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Just a guess, but it is possible Obsidian's internal QA team is involved with testing the relatively soon to be released console versions of Deadfire, and that has delayed this particular patch.

Are Affliction Resistances too strong / too easy to obtain?
DozingDragon replied to anishar's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Resistances are alright, but I think adding a fourth-tier Affliction like Petrify for the other attributes is worth looking at. Resistances are fairly common, so allowing both players and NPCs to circumvent Resistances through high-level or specialized abilities might even out encounters where Reaistances would otherwise mitigate the ability to rely on a certain type of Affliction. On a related note, I think Immunities are too powerful, and doubly so for the Mind Immunity and Body Immunity effects. With the right immunity, you can thoughtlessly trivialize otherwise cool and engaging encounters, without ever needing to engage with other systems (personally I find that intentionally blinding a party to prevent being charmed by fampyrs is way more fun than buffing everyone with Captain’s Banquets, Wael’s Winds, or Luminous Lobsters). In my opinion, immunities should probably only be granted by rare gear, or temporarily through high-level abilities, but that’s something probably better reserved for consideration for a future Pillars game.

Any underrated invocations?
I'm a big fan of the PL 5 upgrade to Ben Fidel. The -10 debuff to all defenses is pretty awesome.

Question: Arcane Cleanse
DozingDragon replied to brasilgringo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)when do i cast arcane dampener? can i cast it pre emptively? so meaning can i cast arcane dampener on it before its globe of invulnerability goes down? You have to cast it when the globe of invulnerability goes down. IIRC, there's usually a delay between when the globe of invulnerability goes down and when the sigil starts using its abilities.
-
does arcane reflection work against arcane dampener?
Arcane Dampener and Arcane Cleanse can be used to temporarily turn off the cleansing sigil (or any of the sigils for that matter) before it hits you.
-
does arcane reflection work against arcane dampener?
While it’s not reliable, I am pretty sure the Spell Resistance passive ability and the upgrade to Xoti’s Lantern can negate Arcane Dampener.
-
does arcane reflection work against arcane dampener?
Mind immunity will only block Intellect, Peerception, and Resolve Afflictions.

Beating Megabosses
nit: i don't think miasma and arkemyr's stack, and expose vulnerabilities and cap of the laughingstock won't help (unless you're talking about helping the morningstar connect with dorudugan in the first place). Miasma and Arkemyr's do not stack, but Akremyr's has a higher base duration, and is easier to land once you have hit with Miasma, but that's mostly just a convenience thing. And yes, Expose Vulnerabilities and Cap of the Laughing Stock make it easier to land Body Blows and for a Cipher to generate focus after using the starting focus and regaining focus from using Empower.

Beating Megabosses
Yeah, combining the Morningstar Modal, Cap of the Laughing Stock, Miasma of Dull Mindedness, Arkemyr’s Wondrous Torment, and Expose Vulnerabilities will help you land Petrification throughout the battle with a very long duration. Add in a Cipher with Ancestor’s Memory and a Priest with Salvation of Time and you can then set up a permanent Petrification Loop. You can also add in a Wall of Many Colors for good measure.

Fleetbreaker - seriously? (Spoilers for Principi quests)
DozingDragon replied to MortyTheGobbo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I am pretty sure that if you destroy Crookspur but then side with Furrante against Aeldys you will get Fleetbreaker as a reward.

DozingDragon replied to Aranduin's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)The Royal Deadfire Company quest on Sayuka involving the underwater ruins has some slightly different dialogue based on your resolution of SSS. [Release] Spoils of Caed Nua

4 big issues that persist even almost a year after release!
DozingDragon replied to RedKnight's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)What kind of performance are you guys getting in Queen's Berth and in the Crucible? Those are still relatively low performance areas where I will regularly notice I can barely maintain 60 fps, and I will also see frequent drops into the 30's and 40's. Most other areas I will average between 80 and 90 fps.

Priest weak?
DozingDragon replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yes, the only other wrinkles to consider are Resistances and Immunities, as those effects can outright negate Afflictions.

Priest weak?
DozingDragon replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Any Perception inspiration will negate any Perception affliction for the duration of the inspiration, and vice versa.

Priest weak?
DozingDragon replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I would like it more if it weren't for the fact that its duration is so short. In many PotD fights a single target debuff needs to be really good (because there are many more enemies) or be durable (because you're fighting a single tough target) and I think Barb's fails at both. I do like Divine Mark at 3 because -25 deflection is huge even if the duration picture isn't that much better Base 10 seconds is pretty short, but if you are targeting an enemy that has the Body Blows affliction from the Morningstar modal, and in later levels lowered Resolve, you can get a decent amount of mileage from a single cast of this ability. But I also tend to keep the Luminous Bathhouse bonus on at all times, so it could the extra cast that makes it feel worthwhile when you can land it.

Priest weak?
DozingDragon replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I think the idea is to be able to counter Perception afflictions using PL 1 spell usages, rather than using Blessing as a straight buff. On a different note, I think Barbs of Condemnation’s -10 to all defenses debuff gets overlooked, it’s pretty nice for a PL 1 ability that also does damage.

Armor penetration is a pain in the ass. Stacking armor is OP.
You can get to 16 Pen without too many gimmicks. You start with 10 Pen (Base 6+4 Ability Level), add 2 Pen with Crusted Swordfish, another 2 Pen with Tenacious (Champion's Boon), 1 Pen from the PL 9 Chanter phrase, and 1 Pen from PL scaling (PL 13 from Prestige, Potion of Ascension, and Firethrower's Gloves). I can't think of a way to boost Pen via PL any further, as even throwing in the Evoker bonus and the Nature Godlike bonus will only get you another 3 PL when you need a total of 4 PL to get one point of Pen, however, I am sure someone around here will come up with something.

Can we agree that Rogues, Monks, and Wizards are the top 3 classes?
Mid-to-late game, accuracy really isn't an issue (especially with equipment options, buffs, and treating PER as a god stat. No class is "bad," you just find more potential in other classes in comparison. You just said above that you think any Ranger multiclass can be always be skipped in favor of Rogue multiclasses. If a multiclass benefits from increased accuracy, like in say reliably applying critical hits for longer duration of afflictions or bonus Pen, then how does a Rogue multiclass achieve that result? Even with an accuracy bonus from a Perception inspiration and Devotions for the Faithful, the +10 from at least using Marked Prey will help create more Crits than not. I'm saying: 1) I don't think any of my characters ever have a base PER under 16, typically go 17-18 to start. This makes accuracy less of a concern, start to finish (PER is the god-stat). 2) Mid-late game, Accuracy is no longer an issue, so I go for debilitating status-effects or more damage. So then why are Ranger multiclasses worth skipping? If Perception is a "god-stat" presumably due to the accuracy bonus, then why would a consistent and stackable accuracy buff be worthless, especially if you could, I don't know, increase a character's Might or Intellect instead to get more "debilitating status-effects or more damage?"
