  1. Well, ranged Mira can be pretty good, since she gets all those free ranged feats from her Scout levels. You can do some pretty sick damage with Precise Shot maxed. As for Bao-Dur, I like him as a melee character. Even an unarmed character for most of the game, with his extra damage feats. Same for Handmaiden.
  2. Good catch, Drakron. I thought the thing looked familiar.
  3. White-Devil, switching to the 9800 might not clear up the problem. My 9800 crashes a lot too. Who set up your system? You apparently have a really good vidcard but aren't using it. Anyway, you access the BIOS on startup before you boot into Windows. The starting screen will tell you what key to press to bring it up. Remember to switch your video cable to the 9800 card, not the motherboard, since you won't see anything at all once you turn the on-board video.
  4. Are the movies actually gone, or does the game just think you haven't seen them yet? There's a "Movies Shown" section at the end of the .ini.
  5. Anyone who quite B2 because he couldn't figure out what he was supposed to be doing probably shouldn't even go near PS:T.
  6. There's something that disrupts the escaped criminals quest, sometimes they just don't show up. Buit the "Redemtion" quest is just completely unwinnable.
  7. Isn't Kreia right? You've got the Exar Kun businesss, then the Jedi Civil War.... wouldn't the average Republic citizen be better off if there were no Force-wielders around at all?
  8. No, that's not the complaint -- at least, not my complaint (I would have been perfectly satisfied with the original ending). It's not the ambiguity that bugs people, it's the way things are simply forgotten. Where's everyone else on Malachor V? What the hell happened with the remote and GO-TO?
  9. Canderous would have no way of knowing whether Revan was personally commanding the Republic fleet or not. It's not clear if Mandalore was at Malachor V or not. It's clear that he didn't die there. since he was executed by Revan, possibly after being defeated in personal combat, which would imply that Revan spared him to execute him later. How cruel.
  10. I'll have to disagree with this a bit. The Influence rules are pretty straightforward if you understand the character in question. And is the information really all that important? Interesting, yes, but iportant? Don't exaggerate. You can get max influence with all characters for your alignment without too much difficulty if you do the planets in the right order. For instance, if LS, do Nar Shaddaa first - a good rule anyway - for enough influence to Jedify Atton and Bao-Dur. Then switch Mira in... etc. Visas is such an influence **** that you don't really need to worry about influence, and T3 Disciple, Handmaiden, and Kreia have enough shipbaord dialog to max them. (An LS player wouldn't want to max HK-47, GO-TO, and Mandalore). So one playthrough DS, one playthrough LS. And how does it "kill replay fun" to not be able to completely exhaust all dialogs in a single playthrough? My big problem is that the NPCs don't seem to know that they've changed alignment. People have mentioned the fallen LS character, but it goes both ways. Someone with LS mastery shouldn't want to cleanse a bar of life, and you shouldn't lose influence for forbidding her to do it.
  11. For someone claiming the credentials don't matter, you seem to take a bit of pride in them.
  12. Speaking of who "officially wins"......Assuming that KotOR 3 really wraps everything up, should the devs make it so that both the LS and DS endings preserve the Republic, or should the DS ending include a way for the player to just blow SW continuity straight to hell?
  13. My impression is that you have to build this capability in from the start, and AFAIK Obsidian didn't do that.
  14. If you say Revan went DS, the Harbinger wasn't in KotOR 1. All those ships were destroyed.
  15. I thought the only item problem is that you get too much good stuff. Though it's nice to be able to build a blaster that actually does some serious damage. (Pity the rifles are still so wimpy next to pistols -- the upgrading means the lower base damage is insignificant compared to the extra attack).
  16. Indeed. But the simple answer is that Kreia is wrong. The SW universe doesn't work like that.
  17. OK -- didn't realize you intended to come across as being twelve or so. Overconfidence is a trademark of the HK-50 series. Sure, it's bad programming, but they're perfectly consistent throughout. For instance, the HK-50 on Peragus doesn't seriously try to conceal his nature from the PC.
  18. If the contract time is too short, don't sign that contract. It seems simple enough.
  19. Wait for the sequel. I think it's said that T3 erased his memory altogether, so he really cna't tell you about Revan.
  20. Wow.... wrong from start to finish. The HK-50s aren't trying to kill the PC. They want him alive. Asking why they're after him hardly seems unreasonable. Someone who doesn't understand the concept of sentences really shouldn't be critical of other people's posting styles.
  21. But that's what Sion does. Why should Sion be less powerful on Korriban than on Malachor V? I thought about this, but decided it didn't bug me. Even if you think she's a Sith Lord - and that's not quite true in her case - letting her run around loose isn't an improvement over keeping her on your ship. At least you can keep an eye on her aboard the Hawk.
  22. Is Stars! any more balanced these days? The IS flying-orgy strategy just struck me as too powerful.
  23. Well, GO-TO and HK-47 aren't scarred; they're both perfectly content with themselves. But I don't suppose that's quite what you were looking for. :D I mentioned earlier that the companions were handled very similar to Planescape: Torment. I should explain for folks who didn't play that game. (PS:T slight spoiler, obviously): without getting into the magic of it, you discover that you have a unique ability to draw tormented souls to you, to make their path yours. This seems to have been directly ported over into KotOR 2, but it's kind of an uneasy fit with the SW universe. I think the value is just to have their existence acknowledged, as opposed to having them simply vanish from the game. FWIW, several early reviews said sort of the same thing about The Empire Strikes Back. OK, the film's over, and what have they accomplished, besides staying alive? Though KotOR 2 is even more ambivalent. Whatever happens, hasn't Kreia won?
  24. If you look at dialog.tlk you gan see directions to the game programmers. That scene was supposed to look just like Vader boarding Leia's ship. Well done.
  25. Personally, I'd go back to Win98 (ME is awful, but XP is a bloated mess). But yeah, in the long term there's no alternative to XP. Driver support for Win98 probably isn't going to stick around much longer.
