  1. I will say this for US English, they do handle words with French derivations well. Probably due to the mixed heritage of the US, what with the French Southern territories, e.g. St Louis, etc. In the UK words of French origin are pronounced as the French would, whereas the American English tends to have anglicized -- indeed Americanized -- them to better acclimatize into the language. I had the advantage of hearing it first, I think -- regardless I tend to parse everything through an all-purpose heuristic so when I saw the "U" it was a big clue ...
  2. face it once and for all. neutral endings doesnt work in rpgs and star wars. to be neutral would give you two choices. either an insane character who one second kills a little cat and in the next helps an old woman over the road. or you could be some do what you want, i dont care, i stay here tipe of character who would do nothing and that means nothing at all. if someone asks you for help you can either refuse, or except. and if you thing kreia was neutral, she wasnt, she maybe wasnt the pure darksider but done just evil things, including manipulating the exile. same for obi wan kenobi who surely was a lightsider. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, strictly speaking a neutral alignment seeks to balance the extremes of Law/Chaos and Good/Evil, seing them all as aberations of the natural state of the universe. So, although it might appear random from the outside, a neutral character would not be random at all. By this definition Kreia was most certainly neutral.
  3. Actually the US chose to update English. Largest? The Chinese have more English speakers than the rest of the world put together ...
  4. ... And we don't seem to have a problem with Platinum ... ... but, what about uranium, plutonium, neptunium ...
  5. I went looking for the coverart for The Stranger and came up with an art linky: Absurd Creation Camus on Art: If all the world were clear, art would not exist. The true work of art is always on the human scale. It is essentially the one that says, 'less'. It is impossible to give a clear account of the world, but art can teach us to reproduce it
  6. Two: - Buckley's, and - None.
  7. Yeah, everything should be getting on with their own lives, rather than the PC being the absolute complete centre of everyone's universe. Shickenfricken mazzlewazzle rozzlefrothen *mutters further Mutleyisms*
  8. Okay, Okay caught me napping there () I just couldn't like her with that matronly voice: sounded like a school mistress telling-off ... then again, I can see how that might be appealing to some ... "
  9. BBC News And now Dr Who has joined the battle -- Baley you can join too!

  11. Okay, but its still Andy and Larry Wachowski in control.
  12. Female pronouns are also used for your country, for example, so it also has that "mother" connotation, probably passed down from the original "Mother Earth" godess that has been so carefully almost removed from the Bible ... ( " ) Except for Germany, for some reason, which calls it the Fatherland. I think we start to uncover the psychological fault lines in our early societies when we talk about the role of women: mother (of me and of our children), virgin, whore, etc; it demonstrates that no matter how expert a female person is, they ain't never going to live up to the expectations put upon them because they are -- at least partially -- mutually exclusive. Also you are saying that the feminine gender pronouns necessarily equate to the subordinate of equivalent masculine term. This may be the case, but I would argue it has more to do with the cultural mores than any fault with the language per se, and so the idiom can be remedied by a substantial application of effort and time! So that eventually an aviator can only ever be a pale imitation of an aviatrix ... What did the Amazonians call their officials?
  13. Apprarently Paramount are "resting the series" for three years, and will make a decision then. Some fans have started a "Save Star Trek" movement and fund; aiming to raise the $30million estimated for a new series (see, there is an advantage to making Dr Who, you can produce a series for
  14. Yeah, all the good mods are in the top couple of slots. I went for soft steps, too. Only bugbear now is that my mouse cursor zooms around the screen, even on the lowest setting, like I've got ADD. (I'll have to switch between game mouse and normal settings, it seems.) Any good mods you can recommend?
  15. They have just finished the MOO Matrix Online, though, so they are familar with the concept.
  16. The problem with AoD was the attrocious controls. I managed to get to the asylum stage and then get through all the way until the wolf-thing (and my word there were a lot of times I nearly gave up along the way: I resolved to finish the game for sheer bloodimindedness). The controls for the guy fighting the wolf thing were so bad that I uninstalled the game immediately. That was the final straw. I could handle the invisible obstacles as you hung underneath the cliff overhang and tried to clib to safety above before Lara's strength failed. I could handle that stupid ghost bit (even though the feedback was nil). But I wasn't going to mash my keyboard just to finish a game. Apparently it was just as bad on the console as well. Utter tripe. <_<
  17. I think you have to talk to him about it before you go and kill it, otherwise it doesn't trigger the Captain's response.
  18. I think you are more kindred with Albert Camus than Sigmund Freud ... Good sketches Kyla.
  19. That's exactly what I ws goiung to say, or else he's just been squirted in the face with a toy water pistol and is about to react ... Good stuff!
  20. Yep, no argument from me with Kreia as a deep and interesting character; nor about the combat in both games and its relative importance to the RPG (broadly speaking). What let the game down was the (surpirse!) unfinished parts. It only takes a few negative results to discourage you from trying new things. And the strict linearity of the narrative was very disapointing. There really is no point in playing after the , as all of the events are strictly in order and invariable -- regardless of your alignment and choices. So, yes! more deep characters; but, no -- don't forget the bread for the sandwich: make the game mechanics sound and have multiple paths and (severe) consequences for different choices.
  21. thanks for the link <{POST_SNAPBACK}> FYI... you will need to remove TuTu to use BG2. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't have BG1, anyway, but thanks for the headsup.
