  1. What is more interesting IMO is the regional differences will make modern English look like Roman Empire latin, compared to all the new local versions. Even though the advent of writing has slowed the rapid regionalization of the language, still it continues apace. Don't more people speak Spanish as their first language in the US than English at the moment? There will certainly be hybrids of English-Spanish probably becoming the regional language of the SW of USA. (Of course latin stuck around until the Norman invasion of England as the offical language, so English will probably do the same.)
  2. Doesnt that just mean you write in "drow" in the subrace thingie and then choose dark skin and white hair in the customizer? Like you could do in NWN? "..and there was much rejoice." <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not anymore, I think they've included that what-are-thems-called tables and whatnot. So the subraces have the bonuses they should have, etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, all my elvish PCs have dark skin and light hair in NwN. :D
  3. Sauce for the goose ... I hate enemy NPCs summoning in dang beasties ... then again I suppose a succubus isn't going to fail a morale check when summoned by another succubus ... I did like the fact that the rats didn't automatically attack in that bit of your mod, btw. (sure, have 'em do it if you make 'em angry, but surely a rat is going to run away rather than fight a person ...)
  4. European version of the game? I remember you had to move all the /dynamicallyloaded/ whatnot to /dittofolder/engrish/ or summin if you had the european version. Of course, I'm not even sure if you're talking about a result of having installed the texture pack or not ^_^;; <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It did ask me if I wanted the English - US or English - UK version, and I selected the latter. It did ask me about an ini file that was replaced (and of course, being an experienced technology user, I backed it up :D ), so I'll look at that and the ..\dynamicallyloaded\.. affair. Thanks for the tip. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you have v1.2 from scratch (i.e 1.2 on the game disc), then it's the european version. If you have to patch the game to 1.2, it's the US version. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, yes I have 1.2 on the DVD, I was talking about the mods: they ask if you want British or US English.
  5. Pah readers [of?] reaction in 500 years if I'm in for English one [?] into [?] [?]roods utter ? ? ? ? ?
  6. I dunno about "clear" ... sounds a bit too much like "no doubt". :D I think the G-man is a very good evil character, who (primarily because he hasn't been explained in any depth) is still a (potentially very) deep character .... and so evil ...
  7. ... and very cool. Wouldn't be that mnuch work, would it? If they fail the morale check they would just join the enemy ranks ...
  8. Does the Drow equipment disintergrate in daylight?
  9. ... And have a morale check versus charisma score, to attack the summoner ...
  10. NwN2 has horsies?! ) (w00t)
  11. Keep on chewing! (Boy that's a lot on your plate. I am impressed.)
  12. When you say "in love", I take it that is an admiring "agape" type love ... I mean, I know he's got a lot of attachments and stuff, but surely every woman's nightmare is a guy that paws them like he is an octopus ... "
  13. Not many US citizens know that the world has that many places. I saw an episode of Sesame Street a while back with a political outline of China and superimposed it on a map of the US (for a size comparison) -- didn't really tell the kiddies where it was, though.
  14. Arnold re-instigating a social policy last made famous by a fellow countryman over sixty years ago ...
  15. I have no issue with your logic, per se. I do think we will eventually lose the etymology of words as they change completely into new forms. (One of the irritating things about Australian English, for example, is the patently ludicrous tendency to use British spelling and US grammar -- which is almost illiterate.) I guess there will always be a recorded mapping of the new idiomatic lexicon back onto the derivations, so I will always be able to get to the true meaning of words (very important to me).
  16. You mean Romanian <{POST_SNAPBACK}> More likely Chinese. More Chinese speak English as a second language than there are native English speakers! (And this is before they invade the world.)
  17. Yeah, latin and your languages have a common root.
  18. He jumped so fast he jumped out of his costume.
  19. "are you getting sheep?" = "f
  20. One of those funny languages is unique (I think it's Icelandic), all the others have commonality, and eventually go back to sanscrit (the Indo-European language group) together with latin (and therefore the romantic languages French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, English, etc).
  21. "are you getting sheep?" = "f
  22. Now we are getting surreal. In English we have ewes (female sheep) -- homophone of second person singular and plural pronouns "you"; and wethers (castrated sheep) -- homophone of whether and weather, as in: I don't know whether the weather will be rainy tomorrow.
