So when will it be the time the forum is finally open for possible exchange of QA between the devs and the forumnites? To be honest there had been a absence and lack of communication here regarding of AP. Chris, come out and greet us at least as a Lead Developer! >.<

I think Fatal Frame series managed to catpure the scary part very well.

Wut? How come Nosferatu: Wraith of Malachi isn't listed amongst the scary games? That game despite using primitive graphics has incredible atmospheric environment, great sounds and music that makes you feel creep out when playing in the night. Furthermore there is a time limit in the game you have to complete which keeps the player on his toes with random generated items and enemies in the rooms of every playthrough. Though the game has its faults for being amateurish in production quality, the scariness factor is very well done in the implementation which does not resort to frights often.

Boring Single player. Great Multiplayer. Unfortunately DoW2's atmosphere is largely absent of the needed 'epicness' to capture 40K's setting. Largely thanks to small number of units and small uninteresting maps unlike Company of Heroes or the scale of World in Conflict.

What's the name of the magazine? Do they have a website? -
There goes the old skool days where manuals were 500+ pages long. I feel old already.

Chris Taylor leading the Fallout MMO project
Zoma replied to TheHarlequin's topic in Computer and Console
I really don't understand the obsessiveness for creating Fallout MMO on Herve's part. Its so expensive both in creation and overhead cost, needs to be forever maintained and its always pitting against other established MMO games. Already for the past years we already see failed MMO games with the most recent one being Tabula Rasa that was shut down not long ago. Age of Conan isn't hot anymore along with Matrix Online (Not sure if its even still alive). Only prominent ones we know at present are WoW. And a more niche based game, EVE Online. I can't really see Fallout 3 being able to carve its own piece of pie in the MMO market since I don't believe there is anything special to differentiate from others other than being a possible WoW with guns game. -
How's the loading times? It was atrocious in the demo and kinda hoping its been more optimized in the retail version.

Problem is I can't get either Blood or Redneck Rampage to play in Vista, even using DosBox has lots of issues like low framerate. :\ Games like Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Rise of the Triad and ID games are playable due to the available open source, which people could make a port out of them for XP and Vista users.

Doom. Heretic. Hexen.

Been playing old FPS games lately. Notably 3D Realm's Lo-Wang: The Shadow Warrior which is an awesome game parodying us Asians with great design levels and bucketloads of toilet humour I find myself appreciating ^^; I even loled when I found an easter egg on the first level referencing Singapore's(Country I'm living in) canning sentence. Another game had been playing is Hexen. Made me realise how difficult old games were where you had to travel through mazes and huge maps just to find a switch or a key. But its got a charm and play factor I can't actually point out that the games in this generation is solely lacking. Games like Blood, Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior had personality with a game focused mainly on pure run and shoot gameplay. Must be nostalgia and me getting old. le sigh.

Heck. Even Neverwinter Nights 2 made a good attempt in buzzing hype. Monsters introduced weekly, characters too and gameplay system/changes. AP's got nothing aside from same old previews with mostly same contents. We need in-game pics and videos instead to see the game in motion to hype accordingly.

I would like to see some Deus Ex atmosphere in AP
Zoma replied to Rhomal's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Deus Ex has a flawed combat system however, despite the great character growth and customization it has. So even if AP does have good level design, choices and multiple routes, having a bad and lacking sharpness in the combat system(Namely Firing weapon implementation, cover system, enemy AI complexity) can make the entire game experience a flawed one. -
Steampunk doesn't necessarily mean it has to involve magic rite?
-
Implement a cover system at the very least, GoW style where tapping once puts you in cover mode. Vegas's cover execution is the best thus far IMO where you have to hold the button to remain in cover mode since I feel it grants the player the best amount of control over cover actions. Please, do not EVER use ME's cover implementation. That one is terrible. Horrible.

Not much new info. mentioned. Guess its about time we are supposed to look at new screens and video footage.

If Torn is an original setting that was conceived by MCA, sure. However, it would put the game as a direct rival to Dragon Age that might have some difficulty in outmanuevering the publicity. Based on the early previews of the game, the setting is striking similar to The Witcher's so that's another competition in that area too. Personally, I kind of hope for a historical fictional setting set in Victorian age. There's lots of famous fictional characters set during that period such as Lupin, Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper ect that if Obsidian is creative enough, it shouldn't be a problem creating their own setting with the mesh of such characters.

They made Battle Realms (Kung Fu RTS which was impressive back in the day), D&D Dragonshard and the recently released Rise of the Argonauts.

The Day of the Tentacles. And Worms, Earthworm Jim, MKD, Quest for Glory.

*Heavily*? Really? JE is a piece of crap with a very superficial 'it's not really ancient China, it's really our own mythology but influenced by Chinese mythology but not really Chinese mythology' layer that's otherwise just standard mediocre Bioware shovelware. Its your right to think the game was crap, but denying that Jade Empire pulled from those influences is a bit like saying that Dungeons and Dragons has no relation to Tolkein's work, Jack Vance's Dying Earth, or Fritz Lieber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. Heck the first Master Li novel is subtitled "A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was" and if that isn't a starting point for the development of Jade Empire, I don't know what is. J.E is nothing sort of being influenced by Wuxia novels at all. Had you read one written by a Louis Cha (Jing Yong) before? If you had, you would perhaps change your mind in regards of the influence inspired. The man's regarded as the person who creates and influences the modern wuxia novels of the 20th century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Cha His known famous works: -Legend of the Condor Heroes -Return of the Condor Heroes -The Deer and the Couldron -The smiling Wandering Swordsman -Heaven Sword, Dragon Saber -Demi-Gods, Semi-Devils JE is simply a typical Western Fantasy story that simply happends to have face lift and name changes to fit into an Eastern setting. Which in the end results a setting that is nothing sort of being inspired from Wuxia or Kung Fu movies. To put it straight, its simply a Eastern setting that tries to emulate a Western's cliches. Simply by looking at the plot's theme of typical good vs evil, such plots are not heavily emphasised in Wuxia novels at all. Wuxia novels tend to focus more on Patriotism, the setting of Jiang Hu, development of Heroism, and reflections of eastern values . So even if Bioware did try to be influenced by Wuxia novels in the creation of JE, its obviously they had taken it from a ****ty source instead from Jing Yong.

Great demo. 'Cept one problem: The load times is ridiculously LONG.

Add Lost Planet 2 in the list. The trailer looks orgasmicly sick! http://kotaku.com/5158575/lost-planet-2-the-trailer Plus, it has coop in the game and based on the selection of equipments that encourages teamwork play, like the mobile ballistic shield a player could use, and a multi guns mecha that can be seated for three persons. Looks like a game with bleeding potential for a great 3rd person action game, something Lost Planet fails to to acheive due to over simplicity of the gameplay system.

Unfortunately, cancelling/delaying Aliens game could be a viable excuse if you don't have the budget left to support it. With AP being the one close to finishing in comparison to Aliens, it makes sense that they use the remaining resources instead to focus on AP and hope for the best they get good returns for it. Then they could consider using the returns to continue the Aliens production.
