Why would I do that? It would be much better if people could bury the antiquated and outdated construct of "nation states" and by the same token get rid of nationalism for good. I know it's an excellent tool for convincing the not too bright masses to go out and die happily for their lords and masters, but seriously... some day, in the case of Ukraine, somebody will realize that internal Soviet administrative borders does not make for good nation boundaries. Especially when it creates large, ethnic minorities whose rights are the first to get trampled on in the name of nationalism and national unity (and other drivel like that). Either find a working solution like Denmark and Germany did, or wholesale genocide like Sweden did with Danish population of Scania. There hasn't been any Danish rebellion there for a few centuries (although Sweden was very apprehensive when the bridge was built, connecting Malmo and Copenhagen)

Sorry @BruceVC but my favourite topics in politics threads are 1 politicians (as individuals) 2 realpolitik and the futility of trying to establish some kind of legal framework to justify or criminalize what is "might makes right" 3 collective and individual hypocrisy (politically, individually and collectively as societies) It's not an exclusive list by any means, just the topics that interests me the most. Bigotry, harassment and racism usually falls in category 3

@majestic I actually have a few Apocalyptica cd's somewhere.... I guess my teenage years were the late 70's and early 80's Just too much good music from that period to really pick a good representation. Most of it heard over the radio. Some bought on vinyl when I could afford it (trying to catch your favourite songs from the radio and record on a tape recorder being too cumbersome)

I'm at episode 9. I do like it very much. Quite funny. But as you said, also repetitive in a Vile E. Coyote vs. Road Runner kind of way. I.e. predictable. Still, the many ways Jashin-chan can end up displeasing Yurine (and being ground to sushi, filleted, impaled etc.) Somehow I just image a Drop Kick on my Devil beach episode being Jashin-chan ending up as bait on a fishing hook and thrown into the water...

From the Domestic stuff... for once not involving our beloved PM (/sarcasm), something that almost belongs in the Good News thread: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-60411622 Australia's largest coal-fired power station will close seven years earlier than planned, as its operator says it is increasingly unable to compete with the "influx of renewables". ... I foresee a *LOT* of hefty donations to The Liberal Party in the near future... probably in order to create some kind of legal obstacles that will disallow them to close. Last week, rival energy giant AGL said it would bring forward by several years the closure of its two biggest coal-fired power plants. Meanwhile, Energy Australia said in 2021 that one of the country's most polluting power stations, Yallourn in Victoria, would close four years earlier than scheduled. Time to retire the fossilized carbon industry to the world of fossils...

Honestly, CNN is only slightly less bad than Fox, except with the opposite bias (pro Dem vs. pro GOP). Got any actual links (besides the Fox copy paste site)? Edit: at least you know with Fox, if they get anything more than the town name right, it's accidental and not on purpose. Their sports results are a bit harder to falsify, so those may be close to the truth...

No. It's not why. The 'why' is because NATO breaks its own rules and it's own charter by attacking countries outside NATO, that are not a threat to NATO. I.e. it's no longer a defensive measure (as per the NATO charter (from 1949, hence the reference to occupation forces): Article 5 The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area. Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security . Article 6 1 For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack: on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France 2, on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer; on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer. Later amended: The definition of the territories to which Article 5 applies was revised by Article 2 of the Protocol to the North Atlantic Treaty on the accession of Greece and Turkey signed on 22 October 1951. On January 16, 1963, the North Atlantic Council noted that insofar as the former Algerian Departments of France were concerned, the relevant clauses of this Treaty had become inapplicable as from July 3, 1962. The Treaty came into force on 24 August 1949, after the deposition of the ratifications of all signatory states. Tl;dr; The NATO charter never provided any options for offensive warfare against other countries "because we don't like them" As for the "whataboutism", not sure what Russia is doing is any justification for NATO doing as it pleases, way beyond what's in its charter? It still means NATO is "can't be trusted" to be a strictly defensive organisation with no other motives. All this could be solved by being honest. I suppose It may be a hard sell in some countries, if they just told them we're a tool for a small group of countries to exert global military hegemony in order to further geopolitical interests, which is what it has de-facto become in 2022.

Exactly. What is needed is something that improves the quality of life of people without moving truckloads of money from the middle class (through taxes) to feed the balance sheet bottom lines of the already wealthy. As for Russia operating outside it's borders, last time I checked Google maps, Chechnya was still within the lines around the Russian Federation. Not trying to justify, but to understand why the west isn't to be trusted (i.e. them telling you, you can't do what they themselves have been doing for a long time, so why shouldn't we do the same)

“What’s more, the team managed to keep these atoms dancing in perfect unison for 37 seconds, setting a new record for the duration of “quantum coherence,” or the state in which the behavior of these atoms can be predicted.” Oh come on... who wants to watch boring atoms dance in unison... I wonder if they could dilate stuff around public transport and thereby make trains and buses run on time?
