Frieren episode 23... (because 24 will probably show up tonight while I'm in bed) The Proctor of the test, Sense, is trying to calm the test takers by trying to convince them not to put too much stock in past test results (in the last 4 tests she presented, nobody passed the test) The nature of the test is explained, and she even gives each test taker an "escape golem". A small bottle with a golem inside, if the bottle is broken, the golem will take the test taker to the surface. Because Sense thinks it unnecessary to kill promising mages. Denken, being the wise old man thinks they should all team up, because anyone who reaches the bottom passes the test. Doesn't have to be at the expense of anyone, i.e. not competing against each other. Humans being humans, they refuse and congregate in small groups with the people they feel comfortable around. Practical as always, Fern of course brought the mini-map to keep track of where in the dungeon they are Left out the part where Himmel goes on about always having to map the entire level before going to the next Frieren meets her arch-nemesis along the way... The various mage groups encounters traps, most of them deadly. From the ceiling crushing people against the floor over gargoyles to suddenly having to fight replicas of themselves... The escape golem seems to work as advertised, when one of the mages get trapped between spiky walls closing in on her. Breaking the bottle makes the golem inflate, break the wall, pick her up and run to the surface. Frieren explains how she handled mimics when solo-leveling... ...and sometimes get rewarded for her persistency Denkens group runs into a replica, he hadn't anticipated (he tried to face Frieren in the first test and got literally butt kicked)... insert epic boss music here. The boss is Frieren the Slayer of course, that's where the episode ended

Since I'm such a Borderlands fan (except the 3rd game ), colour me interested!!! Crossing fingers and hoping it catches the spirit of the game

Oh, I only sneak peeked the next two arcs... edit: I assume those two continue from where the anime most likely ends in a few episodes time

Never heard of Neil Breen before, but sounds like another guy I have heard of, Tommy Wiseau. He made a movie ("The Room" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Room), that was so bad someone created a drama documentary about it's making ("The Disaster Artist" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Disaster_Artist). When you're so bad it's interesting? Edit: A friend of mine persuaded me to watch The Room, so we could appreciate The Disaster Artist... with friends like these

What chapter was that??? Frieren and Mimic's...

Classmates of mine in highschool went to Moscow in the early 80's for a week long trip (we were a "split" class, where some had French and some had Russian as language lessons). Their most popular items were jeans. Didn't matter that they were old and washed out, but genuine western jeans could buy anything. From sex to a 12 pack of moonshine vodka (large bottles, like 2 liter bottles, which of course there was no chance of bringing back to Denmark). edit: our French teacher unfortunately ended up with health issues, so we never got to do the planned trip to France back then

Split off to it's own thread, as it's not really related to the original topic posted in. I suspect it's armored warfare related? If so, you may have to visit the armored warfare developers (link to their forum is further down the list of forum sections)

I was weak... had to know how the Frieren story continues, so found a Youtube channel that covered the next two major story arcs in the manga, "El Dorado" and "The Goddess's Monument". Together at least as big as the entirety of season 1 and then some. Crossing fingers and hoping season 1 did well enough for season 2 to be made.

My inner anarchist is all in favour of people in power, whether political, military or corporate being held accountable for how they use said power, so I can lament the lack of a functioning judiciary (and a lack of check and balances in general) in Russia. In this case It felt like some bizarre episode of Games of Thrones though. Two guys were butting heads for the iron throne, neither of the two giving a damn about law and order, much less human values (and the value of human lives)... and one of them lost. But how do you change a society like that? It has no history of such things as independent judiciary or democratic principles (at least not the last 600 years). Replacing a tyrant with a tyrant isn't really the way. There is of course also that part where my reaction had more to do with some western leaders rubbing me the wrong way, because they (including the Aussie government at some point) kept portraying Navalny as some kind of paragon of human virtues (which doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in said leaders)

One of those people I won't shed any tears for, regardless of how many gullible people thinks he had anything positive to contribute... Some even fell for his shtick so much he got awarded some prize, which was later rescinded when they found out more about the man https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/2/24/amnesty-strips-navalny-of-prisoner-of-conscience-status?traffic_source=KeepReading "Muslim ‘****roaches’ In a 2007 pro-gun rights video, Navalny presents himself as a “certified nationalist” who wants to exterminate “flies and ****roaches” – while bearded Muslim men appear in cutaways. He whips out a gun and shoots an actor wearing a keffiyeh who tried to “attack” him. The 42-second video was released by the Russian National Liberation Movement, a nationalist group Navalny had just co-founded with Zakhar Prilepin, a renowned novelist who later fought for pro-Russian separatists in southeastern Ukraine and joined a pro-Kremlin socialist party earlier this year. Shortly before releasing the video, Navalny was kicked out of Yabloko, Russia’s oldest liberal democratic party, for his “nationalist views” and participation in the Russian March, an annual rally of thousands of far-right nationalists, monarchists and white supremacists." https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/2/25/navalny-has-the-kremlin-foe-moved-on-from-his-nationalist-past ...and this is the guy many people wanted to replace Putin??? Putin is soft by comparison (although granted, Navalny would probably have started ethnic cleansing programs to remove all non-Slavic blood from Russian territory before looking abroad) Edit: Since his first strategy for seizing power failed, he tried the populist approach instead, trying to appeal to Western backing in his attempts to oust Putin

I just watched Frieren 23... a small recap of 22 before sharing a few screenshots 23 though Stark lying in his bed, enjoying sleeping through the day until late in the evening, a lifestyle abruptly interrupted by increasingly aggressive knocking on his door Frieren makes the mistake of opening her mouth... We know from previous episodes that Fern loves sweets, so food is the way to her heart so to speak... If there was any doubt, Frieren is NOT a vegetarian Other groups of mages also frequent the same place, Denken still acting like a grandpa towards the young mage Laufen. Kanne and Lawine (the two young mages who were teamed up with Frieren in the first test) are still around. Lawine's brothers are visiting from the capital and they are a pain in the butt! Of course, Kanne can't resist the temptation to mock her outrageously, with predictable results Leave it to Frieren to wreck Ferns mood again Poor Stark invites Fern out for some snack shopping... brave man indeed! He choose poorly... (anyone remember that old movie?). The Continental Mages organization has hired some of the mages to hunt down a large monster and they need a warrior The episode ends with blue birds delivering written invitations to the second test (and Stark enjoying a meal with people that weren't that terrible after all) Edit: Trying out some new collage making app I bought. Looks like I need to reduce the size by at least another 50% Will do that for the episode 23 summary

It's been a while since I last heard a new Mike Oldfield song... -
I started looking around for my two favourite Charlie Chaplin movies, that I remember from the past... The Great Dictator, probably one of the better known of his movies. Mocking authoritarianism and it's enablers Monsier Verdoux, Chaplin plays the serial killer, that seduces, marries and murders women for their money. The woman he does love (his legitimate wife), is disabled and in order to provide her with a good life elsewhere, he has this little "business" on the side to help with the upkeep.

Random video game news... Games are Randomly News Worthy

Tomb Raider... that brings back memories Fallout may have been the game that made me cave in a buy a PC (I bought the full game after trying the demo and it wouldn't run on my PC emulator). But Tomb Raider was the game that made me buy my first dedicated 3D graphics card/accelerator https://www.pixelrefresh.com/3dfx-orchid-righteous-voodoo-1-where-3d-acceleration-truly-began/ Bye bye oversized chunky pixels (and Lara's giant chest triangles) and hello smooth flowing graphics. I still remember the rather loud click when the relay on the card enabled and disabled it I spent an obscene amount of hours playing that game, exploring every nook and cranny, searching for the limits of the map and every secret I could find (the internet back then was not the internet of today) -
That's because I can't spell My bad, it's Metallic Rouge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallic_Rouge

While waiting impatiently for next episode of Frieren, I picked up another anime to watch. "Metal Rouge" (not a typo, it is a colour, not a profession reference). Looks a bit inspired by Bladerunner and very much inspired by the old comics by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius (Jean Giraud) Very intriguing

I was about to make some lame joke about putting a new spin on an old story. This just looks... bad? Like really really bad? Uwe Boll bad?

Some brilliant quotes "Pegging isn't new for me friendo... but it is for Disney" & "I am the Messiah, I... am... Marvel Jesus!..." I never saw the second Deadpool movie, but I loved the first one. Comedy according to my own tastes

I know I've posted pictures of the life outside of my place before, but this preying mantis sure was eye catching, sitting there on the mosquito net. Grabbed a measuring tape (with cm & inches just for good measure). Looked like it was doing stretching exercises, pushing its from legs (the "grabbers") way out in front of it's body. I went outside, just to check where the front end of the insect was before taking a picture with my phone (partly obscured by the door itself)
