To the OP: Not sure if you have WM, but if you do I'd be really tempted to hold off playing a chanter until it lands. There could be some changes to Chanters which could make quite a difference to them. Apparently they are adding a talent/ability which would speed up their chants. And if past history is anything to go by when the devs made changes to Rangers and Paladins they were really good. So I have high hopes for the chanter class. Not that it's bad at the moment, but it definitely could have some improvements.

Really weird quest for me. Inconsistent. I got the feeling that time or lack of resources impacted on it. The writing in parts was excellent, in particularly the soul reading parts. But the overall quest felt unfinished or rushed. Pity. I like DOC and her story had a lot of potential so it would have been nice if they had payed more attention to it.

Favorite NPC moments
rheingold replied to Mocker22's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Favourite has got to be when Durance goes down in a fight. Eder "Has it got quite all of a sudden" -
Holdwall is also a great option, at least until you get twin shots. Though that is late in the game. Does decent damage, prone on critt, speed bonus, though I would use vicious aim, not penetrating shot with it. There is nothing wrong with using 2 weapons though. The only ones I normally struggle with using a bow are dragons and animats. Easy enough to have a bow and switch to an arquebus for those fights.

I'd be tempted to go with persistence, but it requires more pet micro management than Borrasaine, and you lose the critts. I'd also turn off penetrating shots with a warbow. I find using penetrating shots and swift aim works, or just vicious aim by itself. The loss of speed using both kinda defeats the purpose of using a warbow. Note I haven't actually done the maths, it's just my impression.

Yeah, don't have the actual numbers for pet damage, but it's substantial. I play with Rangers a lot and everytime I keep an eye on the combat log. The pet consistently does more damage than either Eder or pellagina who are built for damage. Wouldn't surprise me if the Ranger and pet keep up with a dual wield rogue. As people have said, there are plenty of options other than stormcaller. (Which is awesome) I'd second (or third) persistence though. Whatever you do, just make sure to take all the pet damage talents including knockdown.

Yup, finally my favourite class is in a pretty strong place. Not so much from pillars (they were always good), but I remember the bad old days where having a druid felt rather sad. They were awful in d&d for a long long time. Trainsmash at level 15 anyone? The perception change does benefit druids, more accuracy for them is good. But I like going might/dex/int. The one major weakness they have, is many of their spells cast pretty slow. It makes a substantial difference giving them a bonus to action speed. I also really like giving the casters movement speed items like boots of speed. Reckon they benefit more than front liners, particularly druids who are sometimes sitting in the back line. Getting them in position to cast returning storm quickly is great. And the ability for a squishy caster to outrun the opposition is nice.

Think this explains why I'm a terrible dragon slayer. For some reason I've never liked priests/clerics. So while I like Durance or at least his writing I only use him to finish his quest. Come to think about it, I don't use ciphers/mages as well. It would probably make the game a lot easier if I did.

Ok doke, let me first lay down my credentials: I am the worst dragon slayer bar none, about the only dragon I have an easy time with is the sky dragon. And lets pretend the alpine dragon doesn't exist. About the only thing thing my characters are good at is feeding the damn dragons. But, a couple of points. Firstly the Adra dragon has exactly the same stats on easy as on hard. That means it's deflection is as high, does the same damage etc. The difference is the number of adds, that's all. This is why Obs are creating a story mode which would adjust the actual stats of various creatures( currently only POTD modifies the stats). Of course not having those adragans makes it easier, but the dragon is still capable of one shotting most of your party. Secondly I have tried all the different ways to kill the dragon, including the cheese. 1: retreating up the stairs and shooting the dragon from above. Never worked for me, mainly because the dragon would occasionally flame my archers. No idea why this happens to me, others don't seem to have the problem. It is still possible, though you need tons of revive scrolls for your archers. 2: placing gaze of the adragan traps around the dragon before initiating the fight. Also never worked, found that the traps were not reliable. 3: this works consistently for me, though it requires like the previous method you don't have scale breaker. For some reason she really doesn't like being betrayed, so she aggros on sight. You need to be able to walk past her, smile and wave and continue towards right, past the xaurips and on to her treasure. At some point, by the xaurips she will initiate a fight, seems to like thieves as much as traitors. Don't stop to fight the xaurips. Move your characters all the way to the end, right by the treasure chests. You can now take the xaurips out, chances are the dragon will still not be in sight, buff up and then send one character to pull her. Move your tanks out ahead to engage her and try and keep them alive as long as possible. Rangers are great for this because of their accuracy, if Sagani has storm caller put it aside and use persistence instead which has a nice DOT effect. Use combusting wounds as well. Don't send the animal companions in. Normally rangers have such good accuracy it dosnt matter if the pet dies, this time it does. Keeping the pet on the side also means you have a fighter in reserve. Not kidding Itumak did kill the dragon once... While everyone else was dead or dieing. Important - persistence, wall of force, combusting wounds, scrolls of paralysis, defense.

@brindle. Please read before commenting. Boeroer did not say he struggled just that it was tedious, presumably because of the micromanaging involved which with 6 rogues is considerably more than with one.... Regarding which classes are most powerful, well while there are some overpowered builds, Obs have done a far better job than the good old ie games. There is no equivalent of the good old Kensai/Mage. And all of the classes can be overpowered built properly. Just look at the build forum.

Speed is great, more speed even better. Ok, that didn't come out as I planned.... Seriously, combat in pillars is sticky, largely because of engagement, which is a good thing. There should be consequences to moving around in a melee. So giving your frontline speed modifiers/ abilities is important, it turns some tough fights into easy ones. Casters are powerful, no doubt about that, but they can take time to warm up and get their cc going. With a few exceptions(freeze fireball mainly), most cc spells take time. I've found that a fighter or monk with boots of speed/ long stride can get into the oppositions back line and knockdown the squishes before my cipher has built up focus and cast a spell. Same with other casters. A dual wield rogue on the other hand with crippling, blinding and withering strike and boots of speed will kill the entire backline before the casters have even realized they are in a fight. Might be a minor exaggeration, but not by much. Also really useful for when the opposition gets amongst your back line, often by the time your fighters manage to come to the rescue it's to late. So I try and give all my frontline people items with movement speed modifiers, though they are rare and often not enough to go around.

Boreal dual wield hatchet rogue ftw! Though the powergamers would probably have a stroke. Loads of fun - still decent damage but surprisingly robust as well. A bit of might - around 14, 17 Dex, 15 Resolve - the rest around 10. Probably out damages the 18 strength dual wielding sabre dudes simply because in brigandine armour, + superiour deflection, resolve and hatchets he spends less time kipping on the floor. Seriously, finding it fun to work with new builds, and backstories, it's all Boeroer's fault. Just with a slight difference though, pretty ordinary stats. Most of them don't even have 18 in the main stat. It actually works out well though, they tend to be more well rounded characters. And resolve is awesome for everyone!
