  1. That's a fair theory. It makes Pallegina feel like a shiny pokemon though. I mean, she's the only character we can't replicate with the adventure's hall.
  2. Hey guys. This isn't a big deal, but I was just looking through the wiki and I was wondering, why can't we play Avian Godlike? I mean, we get an Avian paladin companion (Pallegina). Why make just one "race" that the player can't choose and yet also make a companion for that race? Is there a reason for this?
  3. Well, what you say here and what I heard from Josh in the interview on twitch, reminded me of the following question I had - in the twitch stream I heard that dialogue with a temporary npc I will have in the beginning of the game is used to set up my character's biography prior to the beginning of the events in the game. Back when I watched the Jesse Cox stream, where this dialogue was shown, I thought that I would rather not be completely honest about my past with a stranger. Yesterday I learned that if I had roleplayed in this way, this would have set up a biography I actually don't want my character to have. I know this isn't an issue now that I know about it, and also that I should bear the need to be honest with an npc I will have only for a short time (a fact which an unprepared player would not know on his first playthrough), but it's still a conflict between roleplaying and game mechanics requirements. That's a good point. You have to be a super honest chap for the purpose of creating your biography? It would be kind of ironic if you wanted to roleplay a mysterious, shady thief type... But I guess when you straight out lie in these games, it usually literally says "lie" in brackets... everything else we must accept as the truth.
  4. My 2 cents: I remember the Drow in IWD2 had these insanely wonderful abilities but the +2 level requirement always put me off so much. In comparison, not wearing helmets seems pretty light. So I guess the abilities also can't be too great. That being said, it's a single player game, so who really cares if it's a little imbalanced? I'm not a fan of abilities that requirement -50% health or things like that (as Luckmann says, it's not fun having an ability that only kicks in when you're not doing well) The thread title is really mean though;) Poor Godlike!
  5. Ha! Your childhood sounds much like mine! (game-wise;)
  6. I haven't played the beta, but since there are no dual classes, I'm going to guess that a customized wizard is your only option.
  7. Great thread. I've been wondering about this as well. After years of using the old D&D system, some of these aren't so clear. I hope the final version of the game will contain useful tool tips. MIG & CON are the easiest to understand. Let's talk about the rest (have patience with us, we haven't played the beta!) So DEX is good only if you don't wear heavy armour? So a monk might have lots of DEX but not a fighter? (or wait, do monks wear armour in this game?) You say INT is good for everyone? Do even non-spellcasters have abilities that you would want extended? I mean, aren't fighters abilities all things like "knockdown" which are instant? Is there anything good for ranged attacks? Like, normally, PER sounds like something you're give your archer. But I take it this is not the case? It just helps with defense? You say the concentration bonus for RES is useless? Do wizards not get interupted so much in this game?
  8. This is something I feel strongly about. For me, respec broke Diablo 3. Endless respec means that every character has exactly the same potential. Thus, every character is the same. What a terrible thing to do to an RPG.
  9. Just a week! I'm counting down the days. But I'll have to wait almost a day longer due to timezone issues
  10. In DnD believing in a god is as trivial as believing in a fork. Unlike in the real world, gods often manifest themselves physically and send real signs of their existence to mortals (a bit too often if you ask me). That was never the question. What was the question then? It's kind of vague... I don't agree that every character rushes to advance their gods' interests. Fighters and rogues just get on with life for the most part...
  11. If anything, I think PoE and the DnD worlds aren't deity centered enough. As Gromy said, in a world where magic works, you'd have to be an idiot not to believe in the gods (I'd be signing up at the local temple) And yet, unless you play a cleric or a paladin, you really have very little to do with them (gameplay wise)
  12. As others have said, I first want to see how PoE turns out. I'm very excited about it, but having watched you guys discuss bugs and problems for several months, I'm also getting nervous about the quality. If it's a buggy mess like Wasteland 2, I wouldn't back another. If it's good fun (like Gromnir says), then I would.
  13. Sorry, didn't mean to revive a dead thread... my cheeks are glowing red! (and I'm a poet and I don't know it)
  14. Well, they're supposed to be "almost albino" so... Are there any specifically Savannah folk portraits? There's not much info on them and I'm trying to picture how they look.
  15. I don't want to see any of these jobs (with the exception of things related to running the stronghold). They seem too trivial. I roll my eyes every time they introduce a new RPG and say things like "Wow, in our new game, you can craft, farm, cut wood and sew clothing!" These things can be fun in a specific simulator game. For example, I recommend Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. It's a really cute little game where you run an item shop in an RPG universe. But if you just throw it in as an "extra" in an RPG... it's boring.
  16. My job is not completely BS, but the actual work I do could be finished in a far shorter time (I finish my work in 2-3 hours, and then pretend to work for the next 5 to get my full paycheck). I'm grateful that I have a job and I'm grateful it's not too stressful. But the sheer time wasting is painful. I wish we could have a shorter, more efficient working week and still pay the bills... 9-5 days, 5 days a week seems unnecessary for the vast majority of jobs and causes unnecessary stress...
  17. You're thinking too much in terms of real-life cultures. There are black characters because they're the Ocean folk... part of the game lore, not because Obsidian is trying to represent everyone. I think the hooded girls would make nice female monk characters.
  18. Wow, the orlans are very interesting. I was kind of picturing hobbits up till now but they're more like... cat people. The woman second from the right in the top row is pretty cool.
  19. We really haven't. Still can't believe people did/do this. Wow dude, no need to be a jerk about it if you disagree with me... But the fact that there was a backup button added means that there are a lot of people who do/did this. In the original game, there was no backup button, so it might not have been something you noticed immediately, but eventually you notice that not all characters are created equal. And when you do, surely it's natural to reroll at least a couple of times to get a little better stats?
  20. That's good to know. My previous laptop virtually burned through the table when I played Starcraft 2...
  21. Hmmmm... In a way, I know how you feel. With the good roll, you could virtually make a perfect character (stat-wise). That satisfies the "power gamer" that we all have sleeping within us. But... rolling over and over and over till you get a good score was a little boring. Perhaps this is for the best...
  22. How does the enhancting actually work? Do you need to gather reagents? Pay lots of gold? Level up some ability? That sounds interesting though!
  23. I can sympathize with this argument. I never used much defensive or buff spells in IWD. Attacking is just so much more fun than defending, you know? So if I cast a defensive spell, I really want it to be worth my time. Mirror Image was an okay early ability. Sounds like Wizard's Double is similar, but yeah, just 1 copy isn't enough. You need a couple. After you get Stoneskin, it's all smooth sailing... perhaps a bit too smooth...
  24. I loved the keep in NWN2! I'm planning to squeeze as much content out of the stronghold as possible!
