Thanks for the news. It does indeed sound good. Ha, have you ever worked for a big organization/company? Just because the group has vast resources, doesn't mean individuals can access them without going through vast amounts of bureaucracy. Now, I like this paragraph: "In countless RPGs, playing a villain means being an arsehole. It means extorting NPCs, murdering innocents and generally being very rude to everyone. It’s a sort of aimless evil, being bad for the sake of it. It’s possible to be a nasty creep like that in Tyranny, as well, but there’s also the potential for more nuanced villainy." So we can be a villain with being rude/**** evil? Good stuff. I like my villains to be the iron fist in a velvet glove.

Now, don't be like that. It's still in development, right? I'm sure they'll buff dagger damage in the final release.

I didn't know they released the Digital Devil Saga for PS3. We are truly in the age of remasters... Those were good games, though I didn't enjoy them as much as SMT3: Nocturne.

CRPGs have made a comeback! How about RTSs?
Heijoushin replied to Heijoushin's topic in Computer and Console
Hmmm, I feel the difficulty is only an issue because of how multiplayer focused everything is these days. As you say, the difference in level between a pro (or even just an avid player) and an average joe is huge. But if we had to go back to focusing on single player, then it won't matter as much. Either have multiple difficulty modes, or a campaign with a well-planned learning curve. -
CRPGs have made a comeback! How about RTSs?
Heijoushin replied to Heijoushin's topic in Computer and Console
Grey Goo didn't really work for me, but I'll look into Ashes of The Singularity. Thanks for the tip! Hmmm... I'm not sure I buy that. Are the other genres really increasing in complexity? Do all the new FPSs have new, original elements? Likewise, I can't believe that its impossible to improve on the RTS formula of the 90s. I have heard that before. But surely its a different experience? In MOBAs, you're a hero/one dude. In an RTS, you're the whole army. Doesn't anyone else want to experience being the general of an army, instead of being a single grunt with a rifle? -
Hello Chaps, This is just MHO, but the RTS genre has really gone down the drain these last few years. Blizzard used to be one of the main pillars of RTS, but Warcraft went the way of the MMORPG and Starcraft, while a great game, had an awful campaign which felt more RPG than "war" (a symptom of focusing so closely on certain individuals like Kerrigan and Raynor). I don't even know what the C&C series is doing lately (I loved Red Alert 3 but that was back in 2008) If I'm wrong here, please point me in the right direction, but it seems like there aren't any good RTSs recently? If cRPGs can make a comeback, I'd love to see a good RTS aimed at single players again. Thoughts?

Hmmm.... got to be honest, the controls feel a bit unnatural with a mouse. I think I can only recommend this game if you have a controller.

What is immersion, really? I understand it to be enjoying something so much that you just forget about the outside world. This can happen with ANY activity, though I found it a lot easier when I was a kid (perhaps this is why people remember old games so nostalgically, yes?) Now, as an adult, I generally get knocked out of my "enjoyment/immersion" of a book or game when I think the plot is cheesy or unrealistic. It really doesn't have anything to do with whether the game is first person or third person or whatever.

I just bought this game (played for only 2 hours so far) Anyone else playing it? What do you think? It's certainly beautiful in a minimalist way, but I'm not sure I like the idea of absolutely no dialogue (besides a few lines of tutorial text). Apparently they want to create a "sense of mystery" or something, but I think just a drop of dialogue here and there would go a long way to giving the player some storyline motivation. The controls also take some getting used to. I'm guessing its one of those games you have to learn with your hands, not your head, but I think it might be a lot easier with a PS2 controller rather than a mouse or keyboard. Basically, I'm not really sure if I like or not it yet.

So... I know all the gaming news today is about FFXV... but I'm going to be buying Hyper Light Drifter when I get home(^_^) Also, heard of a new Syndicate-like game called Tokyo 42 today that sounds pretty interesting.

*Rolls eyes* Aren't there already enough threads to discuss American politics on this forum?

Actually very logical old fruit. If you only have a day left, you don't care about the consequences. So in your heart of hearts, you might be saying "I'll use my last day to get revenge or take what I want by force", right? Thus the rule for punishing the family exists, to curb such crimes. Anyway, as others have stated, 24 hours just isn't long enough to do anything major. I couldn't even fly back to my country. The best you can really do is go to your favorite (nearby) place and spend time with loved ones.

Checked it out. Wow, that woman's tit tattoos are weird... That being said, I have no idea what you're trying to say about gender equality.

Just read the first book of a manga series called ikigami. The plot is this: In future Japan, everyone is injected with a special vaccine when they enter elementary school. Somewhere around the age of 20, 1 in 1000 people who received this vaccine will die. The idea is that if the threat of potential death is hanging over you, you'll appreciate your life more (many philosophies agree with this idea, YOLO) For those 1 in 1000, a slip of paper is delivered to them 24 hours before they die (this paper is called an ikigami 逝き紙). Thus, they have a final 24 hours to live. If they commit any crimes during that time, their remaining family will be penalized. Sorry for the long-winded intro. Here's the point of this thread: You get your ikigami, you have 24 hours left to live. What would you do with it?

Okay, so rather than after Pillars of Eternity, you could say it was developed alongside Pillars of Eternity. IMHO One of the weakest parts of POE was the background story that the player crafts for their character (Starting from the conversation with Calisca and continuing through all the cheesy past-life flashbacks) Since this kind of concept seems to be a selling point in Tyranny, I hope they've developed a more interesting way to do it. I know what you mean. Its like video tutorials/walkthroughs. Sometimes they help, but most of the time they're just more long-winded.

1 Year
Heijoushin replied to Xaratas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Has it been a year? Actually, there have been so many patches and updates that it feels a lot longer. They've definitely done a good job updating the game. -
Obsidian has mentioned in several interviews that one of their design goals with the attributes system was to make almost any build viable. Is this a challenge to that design goal? Actually, your healing barb could still be a good tank. I mean, someone must hold the front line. I personally think an ineffective and fragile class would be a lot more useless.

Just finished Danganronpa: Happy Trigger Havoc (which was recently released for the PC). I'm sure the members of this forum are more into western RPGs than J-RPGs, but I can really recommend Danganronpa for its awesome story. Think Phoenix Wright meets Battle Royale (or "Half detective, half murder game" game)

That's the whole reason I created this thread, to talk about the game here And I already had a Paradox account but I don't really like it over there Yeaaaah... I took a look over there but it seemed kind of toxic. So, continuing the conversation, they say it will be released this year. Is it just me, or does that seem kind of... optimistic?
