Mages.
Heijoushin replied to commissar7's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Easy guys. I understand where OP is coming from. It was all done for the sake of that fickle whore we call Magran Balance. The missing spells were distributed among the other classes to make them more viable. Wizards are still great characters, but not quite the little Gods that they were at high levels in BG&IWD. -
Yay! Things have been far too quiet lately. I'm just going to go crazy here: 1. How many new portraits are you expecting to add? 2. Won't the new "watercolor" style be a problem with custom portraits? I mean, if we use a custom portrait for our watcher, but don't have a watercolor version of it, won't it clash terribly? 3. Will different classes have different animations? (Kung fu for the monk, more stylish combos for fighters etc.) 4. What were art inspirations for clothing in the Deadfire region? 5. Will there be clothing shops in Deadfire? In PoE1, if you wanted a nice suit early on, you had to mug a backer character. 6. How will the pet eagle work mechanically? For example, will it only be targetable by range attacks? Will it be very fragile? (compared to other pets) Will you be able to explore the whole map quickly with it? 7. More info on Tekēhu please! He's the only companion we know nothing about. What kind of Godlike is he? 8. There was a thread wondering if oriental weapons will make it into PoE2. How do you feel about that? Do katanas and wakizashis clash with the European medieval atmosphere? 9. Some people felt the Godlike were underwhelming. The new artwork looks great, but are you planning to change their racial abilities too? Thank you. Edit: Sorry, in my excitement, I didn't see the "You are also free to list your questions here, but please limit them to 2-3 questions as there may be a large number of questions coming in and we want to answer as many questions as we can!" part.

There are other games which should also know this by now... *cough*tidesofnumenera*cough* For the most part, I trust Obsidian. But something I was thinking about this morning: I hope they don't try to get too clever with complex plots, conspiracies, and past life touchy-feely crap again. You know what moves a story along? A villain with a clear motivation. If the villain has a clear motivation, then the hero also has a clear motivation (to stop them). This prevents leaps of logic plot points like "Hmmm... I might go insane soon. You know what I should do? Renovate my castle, then go investigate the Leaden Key. That seems logical."

Baby on Board
Heijoushin replied to ThatUndeadLegacy's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Or you could, you know, just not kidnap that baby. I didn't actually. Which was why I was initially puzzled at all the "single mother" threads showing up on the forum. -
I wanted to hear a gentle lie, not the brutal truth...

Sure, you make a good point. Its like in the old days, every single RPG had a sewer level. But why the hell were there so many bad guys hanging out in a sewer? "Hey bro, wanna go chill somewhere that smells like turd?" Just doesn't make sense. Still, most of the time you don't have to stretch your imagination too far.

After finishing Tides of Numenera in a disappointingly short amount of time, I'm now back to the occasional game of Duelyst (free online card game) and Nier Automata. I was expecting Nier Automata to be like a Devil May Cry hack 'n slash game, but after the first level, it becomes an open world with "go hunt 4 xxx and bring me back a xxx" quests. Why do people keep making these MMORPG clone games? They're so mind-numbing...

Torment: Tides of Numenera Released
Heijoushin replied to Infinitron's topic in Computer and Console
Agree 100% with your points Ganrich. I hope they release a little more content (maybe the droped companions) later. I realize now how much I missed in my playthrough, so with the right excuse (more content), I'd be ready to do it all again. -
I'm going to echo everyone here and say that I also prefer realistic armor. In fact, I actually thought Argwes Adra was a bit too flashy. I mean, green clashes with everything But that second chance ability is too good to give up. On the other hand, the White Crest Armour was absolutely beautiful. I also agree that some extra robes would be nice. In fact, I've been saying this for ages, but the PoE world needs some clothing shops. (Or let us select our basic outfit during character creation) Clothing is important for roleplaying!

Heijoushin replied to TheisEjsing's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
But as first impressions go, clothing should probably be more important than background. Even if you're roleplaying a former slave, if you show up in fine silks, they should act accordingly.... though that's probably too much detail for them to program in. I'll take what I can get reaction-wise. -
Torment: Tides of Numenera Released

.... Son of a submariner.... I missed a lot. -
I wouldn't might this either. I mean, I doubt it would be a very deep part of the game, but just as an excuse to fight interesting and exotic opponents. Perhaps with separate categories for 1v1 matches and team matches. Aedyr clothing strikes me as very greco-roman. Maybe when we go to Aedyr in PoE3, we'll get a Colosseum

Perhaps we should say "the courage to make more douchebag characters". Like when you first visit enter the Dozens headquarters, and the other adventuring party (I forget their name) is swaggering all over the place. Didn't that scene make you want to kick their asses? -
Companion VAs
Heijoushin replied to Wellspring's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm not normally into voices, but now that you mention it, PoE did have some great talent. Ditto to the ones Andrea mentioned. -
Hello NOOB, (its kind of fun to say that) I hope you're just raising a UI concern, and not seriously suggesting that we decrease the number of spells, because that would make me very sad. If anything, I want many, many more spells in PoE2. If there are any some spells that are clearly superior (for the cipher, I think that may be the case), then its a question of balancing them. You seem to be underestimating status effects though. While they're rubbish in many PRGs, Paralyze/Petrified/Prone are very powerful in PoE. If you want a hero that is simple to play, just make a party with many close combat types (fighter, paladin etc.) They're tough, you don't have to rest a lot, and the best part: not too many buttons I personally never use AI or auto-casting because I don't want a game that plays itself. PS I got 998 buttons, but a b**ch ain't one!

Torment: Tides of Numenera Released
Heijoushin replied to Infinitron's topic in Computer and Console
Alas, I think you are correct. In the whole game, those were the only 3 offered. I had completely forgotten about them until reading your post. -
Forum sins: 1) Vague thread title 2) Claims to be asking PoE2 question, but is thinly veiled PoE1 rant Sorry OP, just taking the mickey out of ya I'm sure this is a frustrating thing to balance because most PoE players are probably completionists but you have to design for the lowest common denominator. That is, guys who just do the main quests. And WM further complicates things by being mid-game. But hopefully they've learnt from this, and Deadfire will be better balanced.
