You needed NPCs guarding/manning Caed Nua to provide your security and prestige ratings which dictated guests, attacks and quests so I can't really see why they'd abandon that mechanic for what is essentially the same thing. Yes, but they've specifically said so far: no crew except your companions.

They discussed this in the recent interview. They say that the sidekicks have less of a narrative arc. So instead of having some deep revelation about life while traveling with you, they'll just basically stay stable. But that doesn't mean they're uninteresting or superficial. There could still be really cool character concepts.

There's an explorer background. Couldn't say what class. Rogue perhaps?

Here's a question: Let's say you do a solo run in PoE2 and so turn-down all companions. Does that mean you will run the ship single-handedly? It's one thing to run around by yourself, quite another to run a ship by yourself. In that situation, a few sailor NPCs might be nice.

Alas... I cannot find it anywhere... I think it's a very safe bet that she'll be more likable than Durance. If we assume that Takehu is chanter/druid and Xoti is priest/monk, then all classes and races are represented at least once.

Since no one else is answering... I recommend a wizard. You can't really do a rogue/wizard hybrid (wait for PoE2), but I do remember that the lvl. 1 spell Concelhaut's Parasitic Staff is pretty good. Why not just use that spell and bash people over the head? It's the closest you get to a melee wizard. Ciphers are useful, but yeah, you tend to end up spamming the same useful spells over and over (at least I did).

Ms. Laney, since you are looking at this thread now, could you tell us what Takehu is? Pretty please?

Not confirmed. There is a possibility that he is a different type. In fact, the recent interview teases as much: Will we have the chance to play as other Godlike characters? For example, a Hylean bird Godlike. JS: We are not introducing any new Godlike, but Dimitri Berman is remodeling and retexturing the Godlike. If you saw the Fire Godlike in the trailer it's pretty incredible. I don't know if you saw Aarik's little parascope thing of the Death Godlike, they look insane. So, the Godlike that we have are getting overhauled, but we're not going to add new ones. BN: Yeah, well, we're not adding any new playable. JS: That...yeah, I guess that's true. Yeah, you're right. I've actually worked in the manga industry before, but I can respect that opinion. There are some brilliant ideas but also a lot of old, useless tropes that people don't want to let go off. Anyways, I don't think Ydwin is going in that direction.

Necromancers are all basically pale guys/girls obsessed with corpses. And they're a staple of western fantasy. Or are they all goths thrown in for fanservice?

*sigh* She's not blatantly sexy, gothic or nerdy. I mean, she isn't a succubus in a black leather bikini. She just has glasses for Pete's sake. And we don't know enough to judge her personality yet.

Gromnir watches anime? I never would have guessed! Ha! Good fun! Never fear chaps, the writers are American, yes? I don't think we'll have any painful anime tropes in PoE. I think it takes a native Japanese person to write that "bad at cooking" sh**t with a straight face. But at the end of the day, we're mostly nerds here, and many nerds have a soft spot for cute megane-ko. Can't blame the artists for throwing that in. It seems to have secured instant popularity for the character.

Because I'm a grown up person and don't have time for this anymore. This is not just a phrase. I barely have time for the more important things in my life. And why should I? Translations with acceptable quality used to be the norm and I want companies to care for that again. I just wanted to point out the incredibly bad quality of the translations. The PoE team seems to care about language too. Maybe if people here would stop to play those problems down, they would notice that this is a serious problem. Why should it be the task of the players to take care of that? So why is everybody angry at me? All the time, people in this forum whine and complain about incredibly stupid things, like not being able to personalize this or that, like how boring certain things are but if somebody comes and tries to point out, that the most important part of the game – storytelling – is broken for many players he is treated like a whiny kid. We're not angry with you Mordy, we love you! But we secretly suspect that you're viewing the translations of the games of your youth with nostalgia goggles

An eagle is an interesting choice for an animal companion. Won't it be very fragile? Or perhaps only targetable with bows and arrows/ranged weapons? I think that considering how serious most of the companions are, Rekke may have good comedy value.

I'm kind of imaging Ewoks from Star Wars taking out Imperial Stormtroopers now...

That being said, the idea of a barbarian orlan just seems wrong to me. Does a tiny barbarian sound effective to you? (Am I a horrible person for stereotyping?) Making this poll straight after her announcement may have given her an edge

I really like this idea. Ydwin trying to study you on your journey together. That makes sense. And besides, most companions in PoE basically join you because you're a watcher. It's the only thing that all player's characters have in common. I wonder what kind of personality she'll have? Eccentric scholar/absent minded professor is the first thing that comes to mind but given her background, perhaps a slightly cruel edge?

Spoiler: Fulvano is the final boss. He's sitting on a throne in the deepest room in a castle on the last island. When you reach him, he'll be like "Hahaha! You have done well to make it this far! But now I shall personally dispose of you!!"

They may have simply not finalized her until recently. She may or may not have money. Maybe its one of those "poor orphan demonstrates her talent/knowledge and gets accepted into the guild" stories. And remember, a rogue isn't necessarily a thief, its just someone who relies more on dirty fighting than pure martial ability. But I do agree that another tank would have been useful.

Well, I think its quite plausible that most animancers are doing more harm than good. I mean, look at doctors 100 years ago. They had a lot of incorrect beliefs/methods that probably further messed up patients. When a science is in its infancy, everyone is stumbling around in the dark.
