  1. The amount of stuff fixed thanks to backer beta begs to differ! It was a good thing, it just didn't meet what i expected from a beta test. I am OK with how it went, just my feedback about a clarification for future projects. Betas i have been in before had the complete game in them, with feedback about encounters and everything else. Beta basically used to mean "complete game without bugfixes" and that is what i was thinking. If i would have joined it is another story, the "backer beta" was great for spoiler free feedback as it was and therefor i might have avoided a full beta. Just giving my 2 cents about what i expected a beta to be. You are right. I complained about that myself a few times. IMHO it'd be better to allow backers test a whole game and kill as many bugs as possible, to avoid repeating the SW:TOR mistakes. You expectation was justified, however Obsidian never said that backer beta is going to be a beta of a whole game as such. They were rather specific through the development progress that what backers are going to get will be just a small portion of the game world (with few reasons for doing so that you probably know and probably disagree with like I do).
  2. GOG just published a document that might be worth reading through: http://www.gog.com/news/state_of_bcustomer_experience_b That's the complete opposite of Steam approach to the customer service. So does Poland and yet almost everyone here own either a credit or debit card - both of which you can use for paying on GOG (I actually pay with my debit card, not a credit card, if you want to know details like that). Banks give you a card to the account, regardless if you want it or not, it's automatic. It's the first time I hear someone saying that cards are not popular in Germany and every German I know of has a card (probably because they travel a lot?) - that's why I'm surprised. But never mind me
  3. The amount of stuff fixed thanks to backer beta begs to differ! Totally agreed. The sense of entitlement some people have is disappointing. One would hope they know better. I'm fine with the way they handle release. It really feels like a proper AAA RPG, gets promoted this way and it seems that the effects of what they're doing are very positive outside a few backers complaining here or there. Thanks to what they done every person who paid for the game stands on an equal ground. You are a backer or you had pre-order or you play to buy at a day one - doesn't matter. You get to play at the same day. There's no division in a community. It's a great move and I fully support Obsidian keeping it this way!
  4. Uninstalling Steam will also uninstall all of the games you have. Ahem, no. Not at all. That's just false information, bud. It's actually one of the big benefits of Steam that this is NOT the case... From my experience - it does uninstall games. But if my experience is not enough for you - here is an official Steam page: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9609-OBMP-2526 You can prevent that by manually moving directories but that's bypassing default behaviour which is exactly as I previously described. Also: I'm laughing hard at the supposed "benefit of steam". GOG Galaxy will offer both of these, sadly it's not there yet, but should be released this year.
  5. Credit cards are not common in Germany? What?! Anyway - you don't need a credit card. You can pay through paypal or through paysafecard (paysafecard can be charged in a similar way to steam or google play - with cards that are bought in a store. They're available in Germany. You can find store near you here)
  6. Uninstalling Steam will also uninstall all of the games you have. There's much more than that - http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/71611-pros-cons-steam-vs-gog-which-will-you-pick-and-why/?p=1596545
  7. I have 4 excitement points. Disappointment with Wasteland 2 gives me somewhat mixed feelings about PoE and how good it might be... so I try not to overhype myself. And I totally lost every bit of excitement I had for T:ToN. But I never much want this game to be great. I'm in a need for some deep modern 2D RPG with amazing, involving world.
  8. Only devs know the details, but AFAIK neither of the platforms in question is charging Obsidian or Paradox anything for redeeming the keys.
  9. Yes, you got it right - you can download from GOG and install game offline. Steam, as I explained above, does not allow it. This also means that if GOG goes down - you still own your games. If Steam goes down - you loose everything, as you don't own any games on Steam, they're basically rented to you (that's they way they are bypassing European Union laws). From other arguments on why should you pick GOG instead of Steam.... No bloatware. It's just you and your game. No overlays, no huge application running in background, nothing transmitting data in and out of your PC. That's not so very much important with PoE, but I don't have have any high-end multiplayer game on Steam for exactly these reasons - performance and having absolutely full bandwidth reserved for the game. Better customer service. If you have a problem with Steam game you are on your own, noone from Valve gives a **** about you. GOG is completely different, they are genuinely being helpful to the best of their ability. Each time you run Steam client it does that update check and there's a new, useless and meaningless update to the steam every other day forcing you to wait till that crap completes. No problems of that sort with GOG. (Nearly) each time you run Steam it pops with stupid adverts. No problems of that sort with GOG. Steam pricing policy is pure BS. Regional ripoffs are their standard policy. Obviously though it doesn't apply to people who already paid for a game. GOG got lower profit margins than Steam, so more of your money goes directly to the developers. But it doesn't matter if you backed the game on KS. GOG in general tends to have more freebies with the games. But that does not apply to PoE as far as I'm aware.
  10. Well, I don't know details about PoE, but I can do that with a few of my other games on a Steam - for example Europa Universalis IV. But even if you can do that - Steam is still a DRM cause you cannot install a game without online approval from Steam. Even if you'll create a back-up of all the files (using backup functionality) or you have an installation disc (which I painfully found out in a week when my net went down and I wanted to play New Vegas I have on a DVD) you still cannot install the game.
  11. Yes, you will be able to play. In theory you could find game in your steam directory and create a direct shortcut to the exe file to start the game without running Steam.
  12. Wow... Steam isn't taking 90%+ ? What a positive surprise GOG all the way.
  13. What are you even talking about? Read this: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/71190-we-need-a-bunch-of-non-backers-buying-this/page-5?do=findComment&comment=1591947 then come back to me. If you still don't get it - read it again. I never discussed games with absolutely no dedicated QA teams. [edit] Maybe in my previous post I should have said "components tested by general public on top of the regular tests" to avoid this silly nitpicking game. Though the context should be more than clear if you'd bother to read my post before that one (as linked above).
  14. General public in a meaning of not a dedicated QA team. Not a general public as in random people taken from the street. And that means pretty much every Early Access game, crowdfunded game, open beta tested game or closed beta tested game with open recruitment.
  15. I haven't bought any game on Steam for over half a year now. And I'm proud of it. Not wanting a DRM, world-worst customer service (yes, it's worse than EA) and dividing gamers on equal and more equal with their pricing policy is now a hate? W00t?
  16. What? RPG next to FPS is the most popular genre right now. Yea, but sadly total GOG sales are tiny comparing to Steam sales. Wish more ppl would get to GOG and instead of seeing topics like "Pillars of Eternity has now entered the top sellers chart on Steam!" we would see "Pillars of Eternity has now entered the top sellers chart on GOG!", and this would bring excitement to the community, as GOG really is the place to go with all the goodies they give, unobstructive installers and DRM-free games not requiring any other applications to install or run.
  17. Youtubers didn't got any boxes or anything that would follow similar path. It's a digital product, not a car / lamp / chair. Paradox just generated some keys and gave them URL with a copy of the game to download (or did that through steam in which case giving a permission to the user is enough).
  18. Question wasn't about the upcoming expansion packs but rather if multiplayer can be implemented in additional expansion / DLC. Read the first post, not just a title.
  19. Finally! OK ladies and gentleman - get out there and write some positive comments! Seriously though - it seems like they really like it, so that's a good start Wow... it's a good thing, a *very* good thing developers don't simply trust on their players for bughunting and fixing. QA exists for that. If players are left to that task, trust me, it would be the worst thing ever. The worst. Something about many cooks also applies here aswell. Also, you're giving a bit of a conundrum; content is bugged because not many players played it, but if you want players to find bugs for you they need to play content that's heavily bugged (not to mention most of them wouldn't go through one area 300 times before moving on and stuff). It's a 20-20 of failure, but fortunatelly nobody needs to make such horribly wrong decisions since QA exists... We'll see after the release just how great that QA is. So far I haven't seen a game that would have components tested by QA team less bugged than components tested by general public - hence my post.
  20. ^ this and the fact that streamers go into a new areas, unseen in alpha, many of which are much better environments to showcase the capabilities of a graphics style they picked.
  21. IMHO Multiplayer is nothing more than a waste of time. It's a real time with pause game - these work very badly in multiplayer. Even if it's just coop (and they're flat out frustrating in competitive gameplay).
  22. You're in luck, I heard for PoE2 they want to 'advance' it all the way... reducing playtime from 100 hours to 10 hours ADVANCEMENT, Romance sex dolls ADVANCEMENT, totally cinematic playstyle ADVANCEMENT, QTE Quicktime events ADVANCEMENT, decreased spells to 5 ADVANCEMENT and the most important one of all, Awesome Button Inclusion ADVANCEMENT. Or the morale being; you need to explain "advancement" better, considering all the 'advancements' we've seen done to the RPG-game section since BG2 brought us the hollow RPG's of modern times we backed an old-school one for 4 million just to get rid of those 'advancements'. You might simply not mean the same things but your wording is poor if that's the case, just mentioning. Wow.... that was a one nice long rage post. I'm pretty sure that he had none of these things in mind. Not every step forward means a step into QTEs, your way of thinking is bordering with some crazy paranoia. He is talking here about Josh Sawyer game, so probably wants to see how Sawyer could advance a genre, and that as far as I know the guy means none of the things you listed.
  23. Setting up for the Pillars stream. Also showing off character creation. (the video this thread is about)
