Update on content patch please OE
Those are two different issues you're talking about. Patches that solve technical issues isn't what the restoration team are doing. If you don't like the game, say so, but don't go around saying that "it needs fixing", because it most certainly does not, in that respect at least. OE aren't helping the restoration team probably because they stand by their work, like it or not. I agree that the game needs more bug fixing, but apparently "they are working on it". People should keep the bitching in check until they openly say that there aren't going to be any more patches.

None of those offer definite evidence. And you obviously don't understand how the mechanism works, as it's not the debris of the "nuclear mushroom" that would block out the sun. And, at any rate, the paper compares it to the C-T event, in which only ~50% of all species became extinct. I have already debated that point, you should read the thread before replying. Not really. If it was so evident, it would have become clear during tests of the larger nuclear devices. It didn't really, and it's speculation at this point. The paper you linked to clearly states that it would depend on the "number, yield, and type of target", adding even more conditions to it. That without mentioning our really limited understanding of atmospherical and meteorological mechanisms on a global scale. While I accept it may be a consequence of nuclear warfare, there are still too many unknowns to take it as gospel. So yeah, while there are people disputing evolution, nuclear winter isn't nearly as accepted OR necessary as evolution.

That sounds awfully like one of those "you take my word for it" comments. I suppose you have data to back your claims?

That mechanism is well understood and accepted. It's not clear that large amounts of thermonuclear blasts would cause that effect, though.

I'm familiar with the concept of nuclear winter. But again, try to find proof that it would destroy all life on Earth. You will find none. The Cretaceous-Tertiary ELE caused similar effects, and only ~50% of all species were destroyed. Most of them were highly specialized organisms with little adaptive capacity. Also, I suggest you do some research on nuclear ordnance, and you will find that thermonuclear warheads (the kind of nuclear weaponry needed to cause the massive fires needed to trigger a nuclear winter) are relatively clean in comparison to their standard counterparts, so the radiation clouds would not be as bad as you presume. Yes, it would be a catastrophe, and civilization would perhaps be set back a few hundred years, but mankind would not become extinct. And how are you so sure that "vaults" are impractical? I don't have specific data on what the US govt. contingency plans for nuclear war are. Somehow, I doubt you do, either. Right now, the cost of putting stuff in orbit is too high, and the benefits are not such a big deal. But give it some time, until going into orbit isn't much more expensive than going to Taiwan. Also, granting exclusive rights only encourages monopolies, and that in turn tends to cause the system to stagnate. Let them rip each other apart for being the first to build a mall on Mars.

I'll let you apply the same logic to the statement "we are getting close to the point where this planet will no longer be able to support human life". It's not. Please find proof that massive nuclear warfare will drive the human species to extinction. Fortunately, There's Money To Be Made in dominating nature.- Starship Troopers Demo!

Personally, I think JE with it's 50-80 devs, double the poly count count of KotOR and first-time-ever for BioWare motion-captured animation would count as a "major title". But hey - maybe I mistook it for a cheap budget title. Damn. That's actually bad news. Great games that sell poorly don't usually get sequels or serve as templates for other games.- 648 Dead, 322 Hurt in Iraq Bridge Stampede
That is where you stopped thinking with your head and started pulling stuff out of your ass. That is a random conclusion, not supported by any observations, or reached by any reasoning. Therefore, the rest of the post is just plain wrong, since it's based on a random proposition. No. A hierarchy where some things have a higher value than others is a human construct. For that notion to even exist, there must be a human to establish it. Therefore, humans are the only indispensable premise, and thusly, the most important factor. We're talking "importance" here. It's you who brought up what is more important than what. I already said that life has no intrinsic value. And that is a risk to the human race as a whole... how? We are a species in expansion, and it doesn't look like that trend is going to change. Plus, we have the highest adaptability factor of any known living being. We are already reaching a point where we can supply with technology what we can't get from nature. Even in a worst case scenario (MAD, ELE), it's unlikely that humanity would be wiped out completely. Again, it's just survival of the fittest. And with all our faults, we are the fittest on this planet. Keep dreaming of doomsday, Hades. I'll be sure to wake you in the morning.- Amerika
I'm not really interested in this thread anymore but I thought this is interesting. Actually, psychologists suggest that women that sell their body for a living are always suffering from some kind of emotional disorder, often a childhood trauma. The fact that they "appear" normal and "seem" happy doesn't preclude the possibility that they can be emotional wrecks. Don't take my word for it, though. Do some research on the matter and see what you can dig up. Prostitution isn't just another job, and while I'm all for it being regulated (as it's obviously impossible to suppress completely), I no longer think it's "okay" and I won't be supporting it by being a consumer of prostitution. Plain ol' smut, on the other hand... "- Jade Empire Bombed
Amazing. People still haven't figured out how Volo's arguements go. Volo: <random statement> R00fles! User X: "Uh, no, not really." Volo: "PROOF PLEASE!?!1" User X: "Okay, here you go" *presents proof* Volo: "That's not proof, game over, next, thanks for playing, R00fles!"- Old Black Isle board
That sounds just stupid. You shouldn't be allowed to crap in front of the developer's virtual door and get away with it. "Trolling about other game developers" isn't allowed at the OE boards, but trolling about OE at the OE boards is just fine. - "I'm not buying any more of IP's games!" - "Uh, why not?" - "Well, they banned me for being an ass over there!" Typical board denizen logic, alright.- Update on content patch please OE
I see you don't waste a chance to have a go at me. It's always nice to meet a new fan. All of this because I doubted your credentials in your writer thread? Just what are you talking about? I have been one of the most impartial critics of K2 in these boards. But guess what, I know when to move on, a concept with which obviously neither you nor Hades1 are familiar with. That was what my comment was about. If your life is so miserable that you have to come over here periodically to bitch and moan about how disappointed you were about K2, I honestly pity you. Well, not really, to be honest. Uh... game design? Ah, right. It falls in the same category as "moving on". Whatever. Post pruned -Battlewookiee- Amerika

To put it bluntly, if a group achieves their objectives and becomes victorious, they are freedom fighters and heroes of the people, as their heirs get to write History. Otherwise, they are just terrorists.- 648 Dead, 322 Hurt in Iraq Bridge Stampede
This nonsense was brought to you by Hades, the One and only. Let's see. "Importance" is a human concept, so to begin with, your statement is wrong. Humans are the most "important" thing in anything based on a human notion, as without humans, said notion can not exist. That's as far as simple rhetoric goes. Now, on to biology. Time has proven that only the strongest species survive. Like it or not, if the rest of the species can't adapt to the changes caused by the dominant species on the planet (that is, US), they will become extinct. That's how nature works. Nature doesn't care if you like it or not. Life doesn't have an intrinsic, universal value, life only exists to perpetuate itself. If it cannot fulfill this goal by itself, it simply ends. Eventually, if we prove that we are too stupid, too reckless, or simply unfit, we will become extinct as well. But so far, I would say we are doing okay. Yeah, I guess it's fine to make stupid comments and be completely unable to back them. But then again, one must be able to withstand the sh*tstorm they are sure to cause. ) - 648 Dead, 322 Hurt in Iraq Bridge Stampede
